These bikes are incredible. I was in London two weeks ago for the first time just for 3 days, first day we travelled with buses and undergeound, and on the second day we found out Santander Bikes. That was the last day we went with bus or underground :D We have seen the whole London in 2 days with bikes, and we rode over 40 kilometres every day. I totally recommend this way of London Transport. And what's more, most of the time it is even (much) faster than buses (specially in peak hours) So if you go to London, definitely try these bikes !
Hey, are there areas like bigger highways where you can't use them in central London? We are going to London this week and we also want to use bikes as our main transport :)

Can e-bikes be ridden on pathways along the Thames?
Some areas it will be difficult or impossible, others yes
I did the exact thing on my lasst trip there (Sept 2017) and it was so fun.
In the centre of the city you find a docking station every other corner, so taking a new bike every 30-ish minutes to avoid the addditional 2 pound works just fine!
+ it happens I got my first bike at the exact same station you showed on the vid haha

A lot of cities use the same bikeshare vendor (Motivate) so the cool thing is that these tips apply in any city that uses them, although the pricing may be a little different.

Can't believe an American has more understanding than me on how the docking system works loooool. I've always known about docking the bikes before 30 minutes, but how to get another bike after that was were I always got stuck. I always thought I could use the same code, which never worked and I often gave up at that point. Now I know I just need to use the card I used to pay initially and I shouldn't be charged £2 again.
It would be awesome if they had a few with kid seats.

The pricing is very confusing
They're great, but I'd rather you could pay for just one journey if you want to and I think the 30 minute maximum kind of kills it
so if I use it for 29 mins and then I put it back, if I get a different bike right after, will I still have to pay £2 extra or can I just use it for 29 mins and not pay any extra
You can use it for 29 mins and not pay any extra. but there's a 5 min waiting period to be able to get another bike out!

Isn't 2 pounds for every 30 mins expensive. Here in Bangalore, we have Yulu bikes, they're quite cheap comparatively, just 10 Rupees for an hour (0.11 Pounds). Cycling should be encouraged by the govt with lesser pricing to combat air pollution.
London is SOOOO much more expensive than India for everyyyyything!

Hi, I'm travelling to London from NZ next month. I'm in London for 8 days. 1 day will be in Brighton and 1 day in Liverpool, so 6 days in London. I've pre-purchased the train tickets for these 2 days trips. My question is should I get an Oyster card with the 7 day travelcard or just get an Oyster card and top up as you go. All our travel plans will be in zone 1 & 2. What option will be the most cost effective please?

I remember using the bikes when I went on holiday to London with my boyfriend back in April. I was having the time of my life only to turn around and see him wheezing behind me as his bike had a flat tire 😂

I use my debit card I did return the bikes under 30 minute but after little while I try it the code it was invalid I did understand it 24-hour access for £2
If you return the bikes within 30 minute every time I use it in that day do I need to use my debit card will I be still charged £2 for 24-hour
Under 30 minute it's free
You need a new code every time you take a new bike :)
The last thing you said about biking on the street: "If you're back out on the streets, make sure you stay on the streets. If you cycle on the pavement, you could get a fine," was a bit confusing. Do Brits call sidewalks "pavement"?

I am planning my tour to London. Does the machine accept visa debit card or rupay cards and in addition do we have to be member of it before we take the bike or just whoever with a debit card can rent it.

You can just use any major credit or debit card. TfL doesn't say what they accept, but everywhere takes visa and MasterCard, many places take maestro and visa electron, some places accept Union pay, diner's club and American express, but very few take anything else
I'd like to rent 2 bikes at the same time. Will I pay for every bike that is borrowed after the first 2GBP even in the first 30 minutes?
£2 per bike for first 24 hours and then £2 per every additional 30 mins

These are commuter-focused bikes, so no. Also I think both people have to know how to ride a bike if you do find a 2-person one :) be careful hehe

You can ride on almost any road in London.
It's legal to ride on any road and there are bike stations everywhere

You can also get a key so you don’t have to line up and get a bike

Not fine but i imagine you will keep on being charged £2 for not docking it, as the system will assume you're cycling (it's monitoring how long you have been using the bike for)

Yeah, it's because they will charge you £100 if you don't return the bike.
I've used debit cards on there...
If you have a bank account you will have a card, they all offer debit cards.

Per person :)
Also, you don't have to have an app to use the bikes. I mentioned the two apps just to help you find the bike stations.
