Great introduction to the new IGS computer. 👏👏👏 My first reaction to this product is…FINALLY, SOMEONE IS ADDRESSING THE PROBLEM OF HUGE BEZELS ON BIKE COMPUTERS! Sorry for shouting. 🤦♂️ It will be exciting to hear your review of the actual performance of this unit. Can’t wait!
I bought a 618 almost 6 years ago. Navigation on that device more or less "well meant hints", but better than nothing. Everything else worked great. It was rock solid, never let me down, and is now in use by my wife. Now, I have a 1030+. Yes, display sizem app, ecosystem and background sync makes all the difference when you ride often. I am keep to see what the new 800 can do.
May I ask how long have you had the 630 for and what's your experience with navigation and rerouting? I'm also not able to decide if I should look for the 630s or if the 630 is fin.

That's a really nice looking GPS. It appears this is already on sale here in China at a price of 2500RMB (about US$345). Can't wait to see your review to find out if it's actually any good.
valid point regarding the ecosystem when considering which unit to get. Got a Tacx turbo and just bought a venu3, so I guess sticking with Garmin for the cycling computer as well makes sense
I have sort of 'committed' to Garmin through years of using their products and while I know it is possible to mix and match between different brands I just find it so simple and easy when everything works across e.g. watch, chest HRM, head unit, and mobile phone app/PC app, without having to manually import or export anything at all. That said, if you are on a tight budget there is a lot to be gained by going down the mix and match route but it could include a fair few headaches and some loss of compatible data across several different platforms.
Thank you for the review and your continued excellent work in this space...we are all better for your efforts! I have been a Garmin user forever and have been on the 1030 Plus for many years. I cannot find any reason why I would want to leave Garmin and I cannot find a reason to upgrade my 1030 Plus as it does everything I need very well and the newer generation does not have any 'must have' features for me. What I really want is for Strava to have the feature sets that are available in Garmin Connect and to a lesser degree Training Peaks. I have evolved to using Strava as my primary tracking mechanism, mostly for the convenience, however, Stava has always been lacking in items such as calendaring, better goals/tracking, etc. Strava has made some progress in those areas, however, it has been far too slow.
Unfortunately, the igs800 does not provide real-time climb assistant function. Like previous generation products, it is necessary to put in a path (gpx) file to use the climb function.
I do like IGPS units but they still need have more quality control regarding the software and etc. On garmin ecosystem everything just works and fast. With my IGPS unit sometimes I was unable to sync my activities because the system was off, or bugs happening in routes for example. But the units standalone have a great quality and battery life in general.
Really looking for that review. I really want to see the battery life and the map performance. Also want to known if i can upload a training program to the device too ?!?
My iGPSPORT 630 have 30+ hours battery time during normal use. I charge it every month with 10+ hour ride per week. It's insane. So I believe 50 hour battery life is probably close.

This looks like an interesting new unit. What I'd like to see is a comparison of their graphics display options compared to Karoo's fields Heart Rate/Zones and Gears which I find to be great for quick glances.
The intel that I have close to retailing is the Karoo 3 getting some negativity, despite its pretty face, and battery life is in the crosshairs. The rumblings are also because SRAM is boxing the Karoo 3 with SRAM-equipped bikes, which is not always the purchaser's desire (and the Karoo 3 would not be given away free, so the price is buried in the bumpf there somewhere!). The HR and Zones are shown on the iGS800 screen and/or app as graphics (rings, graphs, curves or full figure data fields. Gears on the iGS800 are shown as e.g. numerically as 2/12 (rear, 12 speed*) or 1/2 ... 2/2 (for front). I haven't looked for the iconographic display option that enables a graphic of the chainring in use and the freewheel cog in use (side by side); this was an interesting option on the iGS630S (but not on the iGS630 that I have). In short, there are a hell of a lot of options to play with once the iGS800 is unboxed and mounted up. __________________________________________________ * a forthcoming update to the iGS800 will include a 13th cog to mesh with SRAM's newly released 13-speed freewheel)
I have one and have thrown a TON of feedback over to Magene. They've sent over a beta firmware and are in the process of responding (hopefully rapidly) to a few of the issues I've encountered. I'll give them a little more time to get the firmware updated and pushed to the public release stream.
@@gplama Thanks for the quick response! Glad to hear it, I've got one but I'm not very technically minded when it comes to computers. I'm happy so far.
I was given a new at the time stages unit for free a couple of years ago. The set up was relatively easy and the look of the unit is actually really awesome after coming from a Garmin 520. Outside of that, the thing is the most inaccurate GPS device I have ever used in my life. The thing is barely usable in wide open road riding for any sort of accurate distance measurement, but completely shits the bed in any sort of MTB riding.
Go right ahead. I’ll have a review up when it’s ready. IGPSport hasn’t been able to answer a number of queries I’ve sent which delays the whole process.
Brand popularity rarely dictates price … just look at all the small brand bikes and frames out there which can often be more than ‘popular’ brand equivalent. Price is dictated by what the unit costs to produce (including a proportion of R&D, distributed/retailer markup, taxes etc, and what the brand thinks they can sell the product for.
As someone who runs and rides. I run with a Garmin watch and have a wahoo bolt V 1 for my rides. I regret not buying the Garmin edge. Garmin Connect is amazing and having all my data sync in the one spot and all the post workout analysis I’ll be buying a Garmin edge soon even if they are twice the price because for me no one offers anything better.
I cycled 15,000 km with an IGPSPORT model IGS 620 cycling computer. But in the future I will buy another brand. Here's why. - There is no audio signal if the target power of your workout changes, so you have to continuously look at the cycling computer, which is very dangerous in traffic. - It takes 3 attempts each time to connect my cycling computer to my phone. - If I load a TrainingPeaks workout via my phone to the cycling computer, six digits will be placed in front of the file name, which will make the file name too long and will not load later. The same applies to GPX routes that I create with the IGPSPORT website.
I have a question on the garmin 1040. Any 3rd party app or way to keep food/drink alerts on the screen longer like the wahoo? They flash so quickly if you are not looking at the screen you don't see it. Thanks!
Honestly, this looks pretty amazing. Really looking forward to your testing. Hopefully radar and ANT light control works well. I'm probably going to upgrade from my Edge 830 to this iGPSport iGS800
I have an IGPSPORT IGS620. I cycle 6 days a week with the cycling computer 12.000 km in a year. I do structered workouts every ride which I load in the cycling computer. I posted already my thoughts about this head unit and brand in the comments. My next purchase will be a Garmin.
I had a terrible experience with an IGS630 unit and I wouldn't be exactly enthusiastic about this iGS800. Plus, I miss the times when a company would release a new product with the same price of a product from the same category released in the previous year.
iGPSport aren’t great on the replies. They’ve taken a lot of feedback and said they’re looking into it… I’ll just end up doing a discussion review soon. See my Instagram stories for today’s observations.
@@gplama thanks, I guess I'll just go with Garmin 1040 then, it's not even that much more expensive... Just the more compact form factor, buttons and sightly higher screen resolution were appealing vs Garmin, but as for me navigation is important, better maps, better readability in direct sunlight and likely better GNSS performance in a forest trumps this iGPSport, unfortunately. it's a pity as IMO 1040's form factor is already outdated.
@@gplama I have seen some people using it, 12 hours ride with still 60% battery left. Seems like a good unit. They keep adding features. I think soon it will compete with the 1040.
@@morneauh Battery life is good. They’ve copied a lot of features / interface elements from Garmin. If you want a Garmin, go buy a Garmin that works today.
@@gplama Hey Shane! Any plans on a full review in the following weeks? I'm seriously thinking of getting this unit and I do value your opinion on it! Thanks!
esperamos ansiosamente un inforne detallado del comportamiento del igs800 en ruta con sus cosas a favor y en contra y si verdaderamente metece la pena o en su contra mejor volver a Garmin, gracias
3 months on looking at this great video. I have a IGS630S hat was great, at a decent pricepoint. Unfortunately its gone due to a crash.. Looking at this unit, here in UK is on sale for £379.. can be found on sale for about £330'ish. Certainly seems a decent unit however a Garmin 1040 can be found on sale for £420-450'ish.. Their app is pretty basic, so given the cost difference i would not consider this unit.. rather pay the difference for a garmin (and the support that comes with it) Quick one for your testing, does the fit file on his new IGS800 records DI2 data? mine dosent.. Sent them a message but as usual, no answer..
@@gplama4 weeks later a brief update. Santa got me a nice Garmin 1050. Can’t go wrong with garmin. (Most of the time anyways!) For the price point the IGS630 is a really good unit, does what is to be expected. Navigation could be better (hate turn notifications that end up being a curve on the road!) but overall a decent unit for the price point, for the IGS630S, it was a tad expensive, besides its features were promised for the normal 630. Now the 800 at this price point, nah. Even on the 630S I should have bought a wahoo instead. Besides, a £6.5k bike + 400 quid powemeter deserves something better! On the other hand, their radar and lights work well with the 1050. First impressions with the 1050? Well it’s a very expensive bell with a cycling computer for free. 😂😂 But maps.. day and night! Thanks for your advice!
It does. It only works when following a route you’ve loaded. It is also very limited in what it detects as a ‘climb’. On a recent rider the Edge detected three climbs where as this iGS800 only defected one, and only the top section of the climb.
Damn, just ordered the 630 today. The newer 630S is nicer with double the RAM and route re-routing but I didn't need more memory and hopefully they'll migrate the re-routing to the 630. This doesn't appear to be available yet in the US and once it is it'll probably be way more expensive than the 630 so I doubt that I've missed anything by not waiting. However it might drive the prices of older units down.
The Dash units are so damn bright! That’s about all I have to say about them. I stopped using them when I noted the GPS tracking was extremely wonky here in AU and their maps were years out of date (this was the Stages and Giant branded units). With minimal updates in years from Stages I think those devices are effectively end of life.
no, pregunté a IGSPORT y me dijeron que solo cuando se está siguiendo una ruta y le metes un gpx con datos de desnivel, es posible que en próximas actualizaciones eso cambie y sea de forma predictiva
I would be interested in a different device if i could still upload to garmin connect. I have had a garmin watch for a while now and connect has become my primary fitness analyzer. I have stopped paying for strava too.
Not directly. This is a Garmin only service. You’d need to look at having a third party tool do that upload/sync (and be sure Garmin don’t ban it). For years Garmin Connect would not accept FIT files from Wahoo units regardless of how they were uploaded to it.
I just got a 630s, came with no maps for my location. Had to borrow a laptop to connect the unit with a USB cable to the laptop to display the map files on my computer. Countries have 2 letter codes to identify them. Deleted one country to make room to copy and paste my location map. Was like 1900s computing. So, no map maintenance in the the app, no way to include detailed regional maps, so useless for MTB.
@@GoogleKonto-y4b They should have spent more time fixing bugs and assessing their design choices prior to launch. The unit looks good… but there’s a lot of shortfalls when actually using it.
I have igs630 over a year. Only problem i have had is Radar alert beep. Its so low i can't hear it in living room with radar on bike outside. No sound volume. I won't consider the 800 until i know its loud enough! I can hear my wifes 520+ from 10' behind her.
I'm sure this is great unit, but today my 8year old elmnt died ( reused to connect to any anything) and a roam v2 was bought, sometimes its hard to leave an eco system
As a fellow reviewer / writer, I fully support your thoughts on the lower end of bike computers. I reviewd the iGPSport 630 the other day. The biggest downside for me was the companion app, which was just very mediocre at best. Curious to see if the iGS800 actually does have rerouting. The i630 didn't (which is not a problem for me, but it is for most people).
I raise a cheer for the folks at iGSPORT for raising the bar as a serious piece of kit up against the likes of Garmin, Wahoo and Hammerhead/Karoo 3 (with its abysmal 15 hour battery life comparedf to the 50+ hours of othe iGS800!). To me, this is a bloody good computer indeed. I have the iGS320 (decomissioned), the iGS630 (on MTB) and now the iGS800 (on GIANT TCR) - the best of them all. Now looking for display particulars of the iGS800 connected to the Trek CarBack radar tail light; not sure if the display is intruded into on left/right/both sides when traffic is approaching.
There’s a number of areas that need improvement on the 800. The maps are effectively unusable due to the contrast problems. The speaker is located under the mount. It doesn’t record any gearing information. The power data is also a little off due to some recording problems. It’s a good attempt. It’s still a few step below the current offerings from Garmin, Wahoo, Hammerhead.
I'm sure there are a swag of updates coming in the near-term. What do you mean, "it doesn't record any gearing information" ? The current map downloads for Australian States should improve on the contrast. I have heard of that power meter anomaly before. On SRAM, the power meter must be zeroed, and a best-option is to select Magic Zero where calibration is performed ad hoc. I doubt a scientific peer-reviewed deep dive is needed for these things; short of being wired up and tied down in a test lab like a lab rat...
@@gplama Also you seems to be the only english speaker youtuber with this new unit, any news on if IGPSport give reviews unit to other youtubers? Greetings from where the world ends, Chile.
Following my recent experiences with Garmin Support or there the lack of I would welcome IGS into the game. It's my impression that while Garmin is presently top of the tree, they have become complacent and arrogant as to how they arrived at this position. This has been due only to the support of their customer base and in line with the old adage, best not bite the hand that feeds you. Look forward to your ride impressions in later vids. Thanks for the update
Hey Shane, I’m really looking forward to your in-depth review of this unit when you’re ready. I’ve been with Garmin since the 705’s with a short stint with the original Element and Bolt units. Currently on the 1030 plus for road and gravel and 830 for MTB (The 1000 series lever like shape doesn’t play nice with the type of MTB riding I like… ) . My issue with the 800 series is the screen size just isn’t quite sufficient for the tightly packed “ball of yarn “ type trail systems found in my area. This unit looks promising. Side note, you seem happy with the Garmin connect app. Perhaps it’s user error on my part; but …. Unless I update the ride to Connect via the mobile app, it won’t ever show in the mobile app. In other words, if at the end of the ride if the unit (1030 or 830) connects to WiFi and uploads the ride, Connect web will show the ride, but the mobile app will never reflect that it happened at all. All of my riding buddies have the exact same experience; so much so that they stopped using the mobile app all together. Likewise, if I ride Zwift, it updates Connect (web) but not Mobile. If this is NOT user error (and I hope it is) seems like a real head scratcher. Any thoughts?
It's on the cards. I've had some communication issues with the company which makes things difficult when asking about details of their latest firmware updates and the like.
Super interested to see how the battery life story shakes out. As a bikepacker, I'm always looking to maximize my GPS. It also looks like they have some power prongs on the back like a Garmin.
One of my biggest issues with my Garmin is the ginormous screen borders... seems unnecessary in 2024 when even cheap cell phones can have nearly borderless designs.
16:04 - You phrased it perfectly... "Pay half as much, do twice as much work."
I do feel like that is a consideration not many make or just completely miss. We try to buy accessories for convenience or add enjoyment, not to make more work for ourselves.

Any idea when the full review will come?
Thanks Shane
I have a question on the garmin 1040. Any 3rd party app or way to keep food/drink alerts on the screen longer like the wahoo? They flash so quickly if you are not looking at the screen you don't see it. Thanks!
Off topic but I've been thinking how nice it would be to have cycling sunglasses with analogue customisable Heads Up Display.
Honestly, this looks pretty amazing. Really looking forward to your testing. Hopefully radar and ANT light control works well. I'm probably going to upgrade from my Edge 830 to this iGPSport iGS800
You better think twice. Keep your Garmin and forget IGPSPORT. I have an IGPSPORT and my next cycling computer will be a Garmin.
@@ruudjanssen14 which model do you have? I imagine you'd have pretty negative views of Garmin if you buy their cheapest head unit
I have an IGPSPORT IGS620. I cycle 6 days a week with the cycling computer 12.000 km in a year. I do structered workouts every ride which I load in the cycling computer. I posted already my thoughts about this head unit and brand in the comments. My next purchase will be a Garmin.
Hola, cual me recomendarias este o el garmin 540?
I had a terrible experience with an IGS630 unit and I wouldn't be exactly enthusiastic about this iGS800. Plus, I miss the times when a company would release a new product with the same price of a product from the same category released in the previous year.
@gplama when can we expect a review of that bike computer? Thanks.
iGPSport aren’t great on the replies.
@@gplama Which stories ?
Hey Shane, Is the in depth coming out anytime soon?
Hopefully! There’s been a few big firmware updates since this video.
@@gplama Thanks Shane, looking to buy one and would like your take on it
@@gplama I have seen some people using it, 12 hours ride with still 60% battery left.
Thanks!
Does Garmin or Wahoo Mounts fit? I think the screen isnt really dark, it just has a non-white background.
Hi Shane, do You have info about the brand of the gnss chip inside? is it ublox? or the well-known Airoha from Garmins or the latest dualband Sony?
previous generation used u-blox. so i think, probably u-blox.
esperamos ansiosamente un inforne detallado del comportamiento del igs800 en ruta con sus cosas a favor y en contra y si verdaderamente metece la pena o en su contra mejor volver a Garmin, gracias
How does the touchscreen perform in rainy conditions? Problem or no problem?
I like your elephant route

3 months on looking at this great video. I have a IGS630S hat was great, at a decent pricepoint. Unfortunately its gone due to a crash..
Looking at this unit, here in UK is on sale for £379.. can be found on sale for about £330'ish.
Certainly seems a decent unit however a Garmin 1040 can be found on sale for £420-450'ish..
Their app is pretty basic, so given the cost difference i would not consider this unit.. rather pay the difference for a garmin (and the support that comes with it)
Quick one for your testing, does the fit file on his new IGS800 records DI2 data? mine dosent.. Sent them a message but as usual, no answer..
1040 at that price hands down over this, no question.
@@gplama4 weeks later a brief update. Santa got me a nice Garmin 1050. Can’t go wrong with garmin. (Most of the time anyways!)
For the price point the IGS630 is a really good unit, does what is to be expected.
But maps.. day and night!
Thanks for your advice!
does it have climbpro like feature?
It does. It only works when following a route you’ve loaded. It is also very limited in what it detects as a ‘climb’. On a recent rider the Edge detected three climbs where as this iGS800 only defected one, and only the top section of the climb.
can you review the magene c606 please
It's bad, many people compain this brand, not just computer.
waiting for karoo3, for me the best navigation and screen ...
Unless they fix battery life and make it actually repairable, it's not worth it. Software is awesome but the hardware it's hosted on, yuck
Hi!!! Is it possible to install an external map like on the garmin edge?
No aero mount included at this price point?
Damn, just ordered the 630 today. The newer 630S is nicer with double the RAM and route re-routing but I didn't need more memory and hopefully they'll migrate the re-routing to the 630. This doesn't appear to be available yet in the US and once it is it'll probably be way more expensive than the 630 so I doubt that I've missed anything by not waiting. However it might drive the prices of older units down.
What is screen visibility in compare with Stages Dash 200 (if you sill use it 😊)?
The Dash units are so damn bright! That’s about all I have to say about them. I stopped using them when I noted the GPS tracking was extremely wonky here in AU and their maps were years out of date (this was the Stages and Giant branded units). With minimal updates in years from Stages I think those devices are effectively end of life.
When will it be for general sale.
Have you not had the time to give this the full test and review.
Not yet. It is still planned.
@@gplama thanks for your response. #Legend
hi , thanks for channel. Is the IGS800 worth? after read your strava review of the device , it seems that they have too many flaws ??? Thanks
I’ve given them a few months to work on their firmware beside diving into a full review. It’s getting better…. more soon!
@@gplama Thanks!! So I understand that the software is improving. The maps, do you know if they are OSM, or proprietary like Google or Apple ....?
OSM looking at the 'about' details on the unit.
Hello, does it recognize a climb (distance, elevation percentage, etc.) without needing to enter a route? Thanks
no, pregunté a IGSPORT y me dijeron que solo cuando se está siguiendo una ruta y le metes un gpx con datos de desnivel, es posible que en próximas actualizaciones eso cambie y sea de forma predictiva
When can we expect the full review?
I would be interested in a different device if i could still upload to garmin connect. I have had a garmin watch for a while now and connect has become my primary fitness analyzer. I have stopped paying for strava too.
Not directly. This is a Garmin only service. You’d need to look at having a third party tool do that upload/sync (and be sure Garmin don’t ban it). For years Garmin Connect would not accept FIT files from Wahoo units regardless of how they were uploaded to it.
Does the device fit to a Garmin or Wahoo computer holder with the mounting puck?
Garmin 1/4 mount compatible.
When will this be available for sale?
Its di2 frendly what about sram axs gears?
I just got a 630s, came with no maps for my location. Had to borrow a laptop to connect the unit with a USB cable to the laptop to display the map files on my computer. Countries have 2 letter codes to identify them. Deleted one country to make room to copy and paste my location map. Was like 1900s computing. So, no map maintenance in the the app, no way to include detailed regional maps, so useless for MTB.
When to expect the full review? Exiting stuff!
Hopefully by the end of the month.
@@gplama still exited for your full review. However, I suspect that you are not to keen on the software?
@@GoogleKonto-y4b They should have spent more time fixing bugs and assessing their design choices prior to launch. The unit looks good… but there’s a lot of shortfalls when actually using it.
@@gplama Are there any updates?
I have igs630 over a year. Only problem i have had is Radar alert beep. Its so low i can't hear it in living room with radar on bike outside. No sound volume. I won't consider the 800 until i know its loud enough! I can hear my wifes 520+ from 10' behind her.
It’s not loud enough. The speaker port is under the 1/4 mount. The worst place for it to be. A lot of mounts muffle the sound.
I'm sure this is great unit, but today my 8year old elmnt died ( reused to connect to any anything) and a roam v2 was bought, sometimes its hard to leave an eco system
This video is featured in igs800 page of igpsport shop in aliexpress. I’m waiting for your review video to decide between igs800 or garmin 840. 😁
That's just bizarre. In short, the 840 is light years ahead on a number of levels.
Updated iGS630s already got the re-routing function afaik.. This function is on the feature-set of the new iGS800 also...
That mount looks really very similar to a Garmin mount. Does it fit?
Yep. It's compatible with all Garmin 1/4 turn mounts.
FYI - already available in Japan through Amazon @ 53,900 yen...
I wish they'd allow me to buy the computer via shipping to the US through Amazon JP - it looks like it's exactly what I'm looking for.
@@yariban9735 Yes - I checked and it will not ship to the US - - great price after exchange though - around 350 usd
@gplama Nice unboxing. Have you already had your hand on the Cycplus L7? It's already ob my bike and its really great!
Not yet.
Will there be a review of the magene c606?
Hopefully. Waiting on a few firmware updates to land on it.
Hi shane, any update for this product? Thanks
There's been a few firmware updates drop out of the blue so I've been test riding it again... I'll eventually get to a more detailed review.
@@gplama thanks, will definitely wait for that!
Would you recommand it or should i wait for the review ?
nice content, can i used it for motorcycle
Oh, and the compass has major problems with tilt. I’ll do a video on all these soon.
@@gplama Oopsy! I go akimbo too when vertigo strikes...🤣
Would love to see a fair comparison against units of similar prices, or at least close to it and not top of the line, like the 1040 solar.
There really isn’t much difference in features from the Edge 540 though to the 1040 Solar. Touchscreen, form factor, storage.
Where can I download maps for this model ? I can only see files for the older models on their website
I have no idea sorry. Last I checked they didn’t even have this model listed anywhere on their website.
Connected it to my PC and it looks like maps are preloaded.
Any thoughts?
any idea to sync data from iGS800 to Garmin Connect?
Not possible. You’ll need to do it manually or with a third party sync app.
Can you connect Dexcom CGM to it?
A good question for iGPSport
Any update on this computer?
It's on the cards. I've had some communication issues with the company which makes things difficult when asking about details of their latest firmware updates and the like.
These cycling computers are crazy expensive. You can buy a Pixal 6 and stick it on your handle bars and have more connectivity...
