Fun fact: the guy who says “destroy it! It’s called the book of the dead for a reason!” is voiced by Bruce Campbell, the actor who plays Ash Williams, the main protagonist of the entire Evil Dead franchise. The director said that the voice may be a time displaced Ash

fun fact for caitlyn: in Army of Darkness (the third original evil dead) there was 3 necronomicons and Ash didn’t know which one was the real one, so the director of Evil Dead Rise took that idea and made it “what if there was 3 separate books and each had a different personality”. so that’s why the book in this one is different :)

Plus, they don't have to explain why Ash's book ended up in a 1923 bank vault, and that ties all the films and TV show together.

The one Ash dealt with in the OG Evil Dead is considered the most powerful of the three since it can actually summon The Dark Ones. The one in the 2013 Evil Dead needs 5 souls to be killed in order to summon a being known as "The Abomination" which is supposed to bring end world consequences, and in this film it's meant to kill many people and form into a monster known as "The Marauder" and unlike the other two books, once the first possessed host body is killed the entity remains and possesses the closest soul aka the woman from the beginning.

I went and saw this movie with my friends in the theater, they had their eyes covered with their hands the entire time it was so funny 🤣... This is easily one of the best horror movies to have released in a good while!

My buddy and I went to go see this because my girlfriend flat out refused to see it. He had never seen any of the previous ones and his reaction after the opening scene was “what the F*** are you making me watch?” 😂
I am convinced these movies (and body horror stuff in general) are just to torture people cause why lol what is that writers room look like 😅

Burning, burying, and dismemberment won't kill them. The third record was basically saying that they're unstoppable

@@JF59122 yes it did it didn't say it'll destroy the demon for good we all know in this series it keeps it at bay basically sending back to it's world or hell whatever. And there's more than one book that was only one of them it's still connected to the previous 4 movies. It needs a body to feel alive again these demons have been shut away from centuries I watched a lot of interview with the actresses explaining alot. She mentioned that and said she moved all werid like because demons haven't had a host body for so long they basically don't know how to operate so they tend to pull from the memories of the human they possessed to gain more knowledge also using it as manipulation to make everyone think she isn't. It can't attack the world as an invisible force this kind of demon needs a body to become it's true form
Love this movie. Alyssa killed it, she deserves awards for this performance.
I highly recommend the trilogy and the show (Ash vs. Evil Dead) whether it be on your own or as reaction videos. They're all well worth the time.
this movie really feels like a culmination of so much love for the franchise. there were many fun references to the originals while still being its own thing, and being fabulously insane while doing so. loved your commentary! “imma vom records” took me out 😂 i’d definitely recommend checking out the first three, either on the channel or on your own 🖤
7:24 not only that, I believe every Evil Dead movie (except maybe Army of Darkness) begins with a man reading the necronimicon, a woman telling him to stop, the man reading it anyway and then the first victim being a woman lol
This is just my theory but I think when Ellie threw up the white stuff, it was her soul. Everything got immensely worse after that which means the demons were in full control and had an indefinite hold on her.
that’s what i was thinking, too. same w the blonde girl from the beginning of the movie (jessica?). after they vomit, it’s like they’re dead bc their body is now a soulless husk and the demon can completely take over

I loved this movie and I’m so glad you are basically challenging yourself with gore especially starting with these 2 movies which are both brutal and gory. After rewatch I think the remake is gorier but rise is more disgusting. That being said loved this movie it took a franchise that’s usually in a cabin with adults to a new setting with the apartment and possible victims be children which made the stakes pretty high💀. The way this movie portrays the mother as the main deadite wanting to kill her kids is just dark. The fusion deadite in the finale is the scariest thing to come out of this franchise. Also the cheese grater scene definitely left an impact on not only me but a lot of people really creative and made me physically cringe🤣. Scream franchise should be next.

Yeah there's old-school fans that despise this movie and the remake. But I'm also a old-school fan and I love every second of these movies. I can understand why they don't like it but most if the time...... I think they just want more of Evil dead 2 and don't realize how different all of the movies and the show is from eachother.
The 2013 is still my personal favorite of the Evil Dead franchise, but damn this one was so good.

This movie was such a blast! It was scary, gory, over the top, and funny. Best of all, it had the sense of fun all through it where you can tell the filmmakers were having a great time making it. There’s several great references to the original first two Evil Dead films as well as numerous nods to so many modern horror classics. This is the moviegoing experience that more horror movies should aim for.

As someone that LOVES Evil Dead and grew up with the franchise, I feel like its pretty damn hard to fuck up any movie for it. I love it whether its a comedy/horror like the second and third, or even the tv show. Or when its just a plain horror movie.
I love Ash and the series with everything in me.

I have also viewed both films and have to say 2013 was my personal favourite.
I found it more grittier and sinister than the recent remake .
Where as the newer version seemed more entertaining than anything thing else, but still enjoyable overall .
I remember seeing this for the first time on my phone and it actually gave me nightmares from all the horror movies i've watched the last one that gave me nightmares was smile and that was creepy but Alyssa Sutherland and lily sullivan did such an amazing job
I watch a ton of current year horror films and at this point i have watched 66 2023 horror movies and this is my number one film of the year so far. I am an absolute huge fan of the Evil Dead franchise and i think i like Rise better than the remake due to the characters and the sick and twisted dark humor of the deadites which stays true to the original Evil Dead and its sequel.

I beg you watch the original Evil Dead trilogy, it's absolutely spectacular how there's been 5 movies in this franchise and every single one of them bats 1000
I think that the demon possessed the girl at the end because she was really scared when she saw all the blood so the fear empowered the very recently killed demon which then took over her.
Recently killed? You can't kill that which isn't alive to begin with. Best you can hope for is to banish it, which in the original movies, requires the same book that summoned it.
The Evil Dead movies are my comfort horror movies.

I would recommend for you to watching (Ash vs Evil dead 2015) before the original movies. It came out between the two movie you have seen.
Watching the show before the original movies will add a mystery element to the show and connection to the characters when going in to the old movies.
And it's still not extended/unrated version. & it's still better than 2013. Can't even imagine extended Blu-ray. Hopefully the cat is still excluded in it. 🥺😭

I recently watched "Evil Dead Rise", and OMG, the graphic and bloody violence of the franchise never ceases to terrify people, and I'm loving it! Also, it has some hidden details that has a great call-back to the previous films, although that this film is non-canon to the OG films.💯
I don't care what anyone says... this movie F***ING SMASHED! It will easily go down as one of my favorite horror movies of this year, let alone one of the best horror sequels to a franchise in my personal opinion. The Boogeyman will be releasing soon and can't wait for you to react to that when it goes public!

It's interesting to see people saying this was was more intense than 2013. I think 2013 was more visceral and brutal. Don't get me wrong, both amazing, but this one did seem maybe less intense to me. Maybe I'm a weirdo.
i kinda had a similar review on it. i think there was more gore screentime for 2013 compared to this one. BUT i think the gore was better in 2023. just wish there was more of it but i'm a weirdo as well lmao.

I was at a bar on the Oklahoma/Arkansas border and this guy dropped his beer and the neck broke off. He picked it up and started chewing on the bottle (crunch crunch) and drinking it like nothing.
To me, the only evil dead are the first 3 original movies with Bruce Campbell and the tv show. I'm personally not a fan of the remake, and I don't hate this movie I do quite enjoy it but other than the Necronomicon being in it I think it has little to do with the evil dead franchise. The deadites don't look anything like the deadites and the movie could have easily just been called Devil's house, and it wouldn't make a difference. Totally different for a horror but a movie/documentary that can really get under your skin on an emotional level in a very unique way for a film.
Have watched it by myself and it put me in tears and have watched it with someone else and we had to turn it off half way through as it got to her so much.
Not scary as such but gives off a very individual fear vibe all while being very beautiful by the end.

The morphed together deadite at the end of this movie reminds me of an H.P. Lovecraft's color out of space. Anyone who's seen that knows what I'm talking about.

Great video! I def reccomend watching the original evil dead trilogy, they are great! The original is rlly dark (if not a bit unintentionally goofy due to its low budget) and then the sequels get really chaotic and wild and dive into cartoony slapstick comedy and it’s pure gold but it’s def an aquired taste especially if you start with the newer ones which are as you’ve seen super dark lmao
I've heard this movie has been a bit divisive among the fans but I loved it! It tried out a new setting with great results and had plenty of series callbacks.
It’s not really divisive. Some people just like the originals and none of the others in the franchise including this.
as someone who is not biased / not a hard fan of the franchise, it was okay imo. a solid 7/10. i feel like majority was filler or unneeded add ins. wish there was more story if that makes sense. there was a storyline but felt like there was missing more. hell even more jumpscares or gore. evil dead had more gore screentime compared to this one i believe. that being said, i think the gore in this movie was wayyyy better tho. it's a mixed review lol.

There are 3 books. the one from 2013 is they is the same from 1 and 2. and this book and the final lost book that was mentioned in in Army of darkness (evil dead 3) were the 2nd book was.
Well, this evil dead definitely keeps everything about the remake but turns it up a notch by eleven, the screenplay writer is no shy of a horror junky. 👏👏👏
Usually, Hollywood won't pick people like this family as victoms of demon. But this movie just don't give a shit.
