I am curious to see how the wind does on that one. I am not a fan of the Ikamper setup process but it is a absolute beast in 50mph wind. No noise at all and no exposed struts to get damaged by branches. Looking forward to your thoughts after some use.
So far it’s been really good in the wind. Way better than I thought it would be. I’ll explain the structure more in the review vid. They tested it up to 75mph at Intrepid and it was rock solid. I’ve had it out in like 20 mph gusts, so not extreme..but we all slept through it without waking up…something I NEVER did in my Desert Armor Tank (iKamper style).
It's not an accident when she punches you in the face either 😂😂😂 Just kidding. It's was too good not to reply. Had fun hanging with you three at Expo East.
@@Venture2Roam we enjoyed talking with you as well. Any questions we can help you with on your builds just let me know. And if you get over this way I have a few rubicon front axles and t cases for your gladiator.
I do wish more companies made 60 inch (queen width) mattresses for full size vehicles in wedge form factor. Right now the only one is Falcon XL with a 57" mattress
Thanks for the great review. This seems like a great RTT but for me my constraint is that I want it to be able to fit in the bed of my short bed pickup which is only 60” long. I know the ikamper skycamp mini is a good option but the price tag is a little bit much for me. Have you ever seen the Terra Firma Vertex Duo? The specs look really good but since it’s made from a small relatively new overlanding company there are absolutely no reviews for it. Just curious if you’ve heard of it or have any opinions. Thank you!
Will, you still rolling with this tent? Any ‘updated’ updates? I'm in the market, and bouncing between the BDV and Geo2.5. Not sure if you're going to reply, but wanted to give it a shot, anyways.... the Geo is premium priced, that’s for certain. I’ll use an EXPED in either, so the mattress doesn’t matter. I’ll check them both out at Expo West, but nothing compares to real world use and valued opinions.
Yes I still run this. All things equal, I’d buy this again over the BDV. It’s just bigger on the inside and is about the same weight/footprint. iKamper makes great tents and nice finishes…but I’ve seen them side by side (my buddy Off The Grind has a BDV). That said, the BDV is s cool tent if that’s what you wind up going with. Here’s a link to the geo if you buy. geni.us/IntrepidGeo
@@Archangel4959 I'll include that in the phase 1 build video (hopefully next week). But I used the Frontrunner load bars that fit right into the Smartcap t-channels that run on top of the cap. Very easy install. The tent goes right on with plenty of room to reach under and connect the u-bolts.
Any issues with the struts being on the outside on ultra tight trails? Strongly considering this tent but I have pin stripes exactly where it'd be- wondering how those struts would hold up to a wack from a tree branch.
This looks like a very complicated tent with a lot of potential failure points. Those moon windows are a great idea, but they turn yellow quickly and are condensation creating monsters that do not dry at the same rate the rest of the tent does. Always is a wet spot when folding in the AM. I'll stick with my TS Alpha for now. We've got almost 9 months living in ours in the last 2 seasons and we're still happy for the most part. I know we have the same or better head room as this tent and it takes King size sheets to cover the mattress....
Oh ya, the Alpha is way bigger, as is my Desert Armor Tank XL. They are completely different types of tents. But the Alpha and the Desert Armor probably have as many or more failure points as the Intrepid. They are fold out tents with hinges in the floor...which is where rain and dust like to come into the tent. The shells break if you hit the to hard on obstacles, or overload them with too much bedding inside, you can't easily mount a freestanding 270 awning to them..and the list goes on. My point is, NO tent is perfect...and I'm not claiming this one is either...But I've owned enough and seen enough to think this one is a good tent...BUT I will review it after I beat it up for a bit.
Great question. I'm not against a GFC or Super Pacific/Alucab type set up..but right now I'm going to use this truck for more than just overlanding. This is what I'll take the family skiing with in the winter and other non overlanding activities. So I can easily take this tent off, store it, and have a functional utility vehicle when I'm not on the trail.
@@Venture2Roam that’s something I never even thought of. The simplicity of being able to take the tent off and have a normal functioning truck haha. Thanks for the reply. Your videos rock!
I don’t have the specs on that..but it’s bigger and easier to put away. The Space style tents with two lower hinge points are cool…but you typically have to wrestle them down to get them closed and have 4 latches instead of two. I think that style of tent is great..but I think Intrepid is bigger and easier to use.
I really like this tent.(but $4,000😬) Now, if they could just build one at or under 100lbs. My Inspired Overland is 87lbs. Set up and take down is about 60sec. Great wedge tent for keeping weight down, but so-so for comfort. And really only practical for 1 person. As an RTT on a Crawl-lander. it really is the only option. (not top-heavy at all)
Those look great, but you can't leave bedding inside, which is a non-starter for me. I can see the appeal..same as GFC..super light, super stripped down/compact. Great option...especially for folks who have the room to store bedding.
That’s what I thought initially…but Intrepid is adamant that it’s made to last a very long time. We’ll see though. I’m optimistic because I’ve been talking to them for a while now, but I’ll document what happens. Intrepid said they are game for it 🤷♂️
“For those of you feet people - you’re welcome!” 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 That was the funniest ever!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

I’m doing a direct comparison vid to the Falcon Pro too. Which is also a great tent so far.

I don’t know much about the Vertex. You might look at the roof space tent. It’s a good design for truck beds too.
Great video and you asked good questions! Do you have a full updated review after using it more?
Yes! The full review will be coming out in Feb. I've used it a TON and have a lot to say about it :)

Great to hear!

Yes, but it’s too hard to attach to the rhino rack. I’ll go over it in my full review coming out soon.

Why don’t they put the ladder at the foot of the bed so no one has to crawl over anyone?
You can do that. For Jeeps it’s a bit harder because you have to clear the spare tire..but that works ok on trucks.
