Damn! this is very useful. Now I don't have to install 3rd party Lock apps just to do this. I already have passcode enabled on to my other apps that have the functionality but this is very useful to some other apps that don't have. Thanks, Gary!

these security issues in an upcoming version of iOS. Remember the report of WSJ on locking someone out of their Apple ID and nothing happend from Apple so far?

Very helpful, Gary. I liked how you can include multiple apps in the automation all on one screen. I included my two email apps, Instagram, bank app, messages, wallet and TH-cam. Probably will add a couple more as time goes on. Thank you. Also I did use the network name condition you demonstrated. It worked fine. My wifi has two networks, regular and 5G, and I was able to add both to the condition.
How did you add 2 networks?
@@lallu2004 Add another "If" condition with "Is not" for the 2nd network name positioned below the first one. It will be indented slightly when you add it. Then place the "Lock the screen" below the 2nd one. You can drag them up or down by pressing & holding each item for a second. When I turn off my phone's Wifi completely the applications lock the screen as expected if I open them. Whenever the phone is connected to EITHER one of the networks, they don't. So it does work the way I wanted.

No, as a third-party app couldn't take over the system to do it.

May I know for the lock apps. How can I lock the inside the camera the photo album?
I would like to lock that. When someone help to take a photo. People can click the photo and see all the photos from album.
If someone uses the Camera while the iPhone is locked, and then views the photo they took, they can't tap "All Photos." It will ask them to unlock the iPhone first.
This is certainly useful but somewhat complicated. I simply turn on the Screen Time when I'm out.
Hi Gary, a proposal to see if it is possible, we are short of a good tutorial on how to reinstall the macosx installed with fusion, the truth is that it is quite complicated to know what to do with so many volumes that appear, container, data, etc.. Can more than one WiFi network be added by repeating the “Get WiFi network name” and “If” steps or is there an easier way?
I added another "If" and "Get WiFi network name" and "is not" right below the first one to add my second network. So now it works with either one. Put the "Lock the screen" just below the second network name. It worked perfectly.

You can't. The Shortcuts app isn't available in that list.
it works fine, but people still can see my app (expense management app) show in app switcher if they swipe to see it, what if i want to auto close app when I don't use the app?
No way to auto-close an app. Remember this isn't an ultra-secure thing here. If you need that much security, then have a strong password (not passcode) and don't share it with anyone.

Not the same way. There are other methods for iPadOS but in the next version it will be a core function.
Gary, my husband gave me his old iPad. He has his old email address on it and as Apple ID and cannot remember his code. I want to wipe it clean and use it as mine but cannot. He also does not have the phone he used to set it up and the back up email he used no longer exists. Can you help please.
I can't help. Only Apple can help, if anyone. It could be that without the passcode or a way to recover it, there's not much that can be done. But call Apple Support and start working with them.
Make no sense if you delete the shortcut before open the app it should have an way to lock 🔐 shortcut created it should not let delete it before pass code or Face ID
This isn't a foolproof security method. It is just a useful technique. If you really don't trust the other person that much, then you shouldn't give them your phone at all.

Not sure what you are trying to do. First, whatever this Sleep App is, it would need to have support for Shortcuts. Second, what would Voice Memos do as part of this?
@@macmost to play my voice memos of the recording I recorded the sound automatically plays when the Sleep Alarm goes on to help me be conscious to get out of bed. I believe it’s on the right track to ask someone like you. Yes, Pillow support this app.
iPhone allows you to create a separate password for Lock Screen
Great if ur parents go thru ur apps
What if someone takes ur phone and deactivate the shortcut
They would need to know in advance that you have this set up. As I explain in the video, it isn't a perfect solution, just another layer of security if you happen to need it.
How about they were deleting the shortcut first?
This is not an ultra-secure technique, just another layer. I discuss that at the end of the video.

I have iOS 17.3.1 - when I type lock it doesn’t have me that option…

Can you lock the settings APP? that is what is needed the most to lock to protect you from getting your Apple ID stolen
There is a way to use screen time to control some of that stuff thieves immediately try to change. You set it with a different passcode than the main phone too so it helps even if the phone is unlocked otherwise.
You can block changing or even access to your Apple ID. Use Screen time and turn on restriction for account:
Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > Account Changes
@Pablo This will buy you time to go to another computer (or phone) and erase your data (or to revoke devices from your Apple ID before it is too late).
If that is your fear, then this technique doesn't work anyway. The thing you are talking about is when the thief also has your passcode. To protect against that, make sure you use a long random alphanumeric passcode and avoid using it in public (use Face ID instead). Everything is fine until you discover that you can disable the automation from the shortcut. 😅
I explain that in the video ("It's not ultra-secure but it will work in most cases.") And I mention the very issue you bring up here ("There is a way to be able to switch this Off if they know it is there.") Then I go into more detail about what this is good for and what it isn't.
How to take off the passowrd after all?? I dont have any idea😢
