    ok, so if AI generated art is so bad, doesn't that mean that it's not problematic seeing as no one will want to pay for it? you're defeating your own point on this video

      I mean it still gets its data through questionable means. Besides it may be poor quality now but if it gets really good quality in the future it definitely brings some concerns for artists. AI art is still in its infancy and will continue to get more and more advanced bringing up these ethical concerns more and more.

    If you can claim that utilizing data of existing artists' work to create something new and transformative is stealing (I'm talking about actual good images, by the way),
    by the same logic, can it not be argued that using footage, characters, and voices from Yugioh, an animated series made by many artists and content you do not own, to make a transformative video commentating on a prominent debate, is also stealing?
    I'm not trying to say you are as I believe in fair use within reason for transformative content as a legitimate work, but I feel that logic could set a dangerous precedent on a legal argument that is already on thin ice and non-existent in some countries.
    For example, is fan art of a character you didn't make in a pose that you didn't originally draw but in your own style (or another style that you didn't come up with) considered stealing?

    • @GrumpTristan
      @GrumpTristan  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I can understand your argument for fair use, it's been an issue within the TH-cam community for a very long time, as I'm sure you already know. People like LittleKuriboh, The Nostalgia Critic and TeamFourStar have been dealing with copyright issues from the creator companies for a very long time. I'd say that my main point would be that there will always be the option of watching the original shows, and that the content that I create is an extension of already being a fan of the original medium. My content is in no way supposed to be a replacement to the original, and I wouldn't even say that most AI art is supposed to be. I can see the benefits of having it, but there are people that will use it in lieu of commissioning an artist that maybe they really like, and will upload their original creations to a system that will attempt to copy said style. I'd say that more than anything is the bigger issue with the system, and while the issue can be subjective, when you take an original artist's work and upload it to one of these systems, it's now on there forever, and the artist now has to deal with the fact that someone really could produce something that looks like their style without their consent. There are plenty of artists that have been affected by this issue, and my hope is honestly that more people will just reach out to those artists working solely for themselves and help support them and their success.
      As for your fan art question, I would say that putting in the work and attempting to actually create said drawing is the main difference. You're not necessarily tracing over a piece of work and calling it your own, which in and of itself is an issue already online that people do. You as a fan of the original Creator are making your own piece of artwork, and that artists could actually end up seeing that piece of work and enjoying it themselves. There are plenty of artists online that will draw one-another's OCs and have a pretty good time with it! It allows for growth and the development of a community that's all centered around being a fan of the medium, and using their character(s) to express it.
      My hope is that if AI art systems become more commonplace that there will be room for original artists to still be able to produce their own content without the worry of having it be recreated by a system that doesn't understand the actual work that goes into creating an original piece, and that people will reach out to the artists themselves if they have a request for a piece rather than upload their images to the system in an attempt to make it instead.
      I hope that this all makes sense haha, I just know that the subject of AI generated art currently can be a tricky topic, but again, I do see it's benefits and hope it becomes more refined in the future if it does go further

    1:24 there’s really no difference between an AI learning to draw and a human learning to draw. If you put your art out there for free, why can’t I train myself off of it? Yes my art would be derivative but i wouldn’t not be allowed do it.

    • @GoodmoneyH
      @GoodmoneyH ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, because I, as a human, can process all the information from my favorite artist and spend barely a week to become a master. In all seriousness tho, is unethical the way the companies are going about this, you know using other people's art which makes people money, hiding behind non profit research to them make profit on a product that allows anyone to make a "masterpiece" in a fraction of the time, and allowing people to train it to copy someone's style even if the artist says they would like them not to, just look at Samdoesart. And this isn't even a big chunk of what's wrong with it.
