    Something I used to do is save special items because I thought they were for special occasions..now as an older woman I try to embrace each day as a special occasion! Wear all your lovely nostalgic items..you look beautiful!!

    The white dress that is the same style you are wearing looked like a winter white. Perfect for this time of year.

    This is something I need to do immediately. I have way too many clothes in my closet that's just been hanging there, for years 🤦🏽‍♀️

      Yes, do it! It will lighten your load so much. Since doing this, I am finding it easier to get dressed. Less choices, and I love everything I kept. I am even discovering new combinations (top & skirt) that I hadn’t previously considered. It is very versatile, even though I only have about 20-25 items.

    Suzanne, you have accomplished so much and made some amazing insights. Thank you for sharing this very personal journey with us.
    I have also sorted through my clothing and probably donated half of my wardrobe. And when I put something on now and am not happy with how I feel in it, it goes into the donation bag that is always in my craft room. Just this morning, an ill-fitting top was added to the bag,
    My weakness is my collection of coats...oh my...I haven't parted with a coat in over 40 years!! And since some are vintage, they could be older than me!! LOL...

      I love that you have vintage coats! They are probably worth a fortune (to the right person)! But good for you, for being so disciplined with your clothing! I used to be much more minimalist than I have become!!! I need to get back to that place. ❤️

    I did the same thing today! Only I have a big pile of things going to Goodwill and the rest I hung back up (color coded) and will try on another day. I also washed my tan bed quilt and put my white one on the bed. Simple Pleasures on a very cold day here in New York. Thank you for another enjoyable video!

    Hi Suzanne! Wow, you made some difficult decisions, and I know making this video was not easy for you. You have some lovely things in your wardrobe, and I'm glad you are at peace with your decisions. 2020 was a rough year!! That's what sent me into my gardening journey. You couldn't buy basic items at the store. I was still working then, and all I wanted to do was hide away at home! I'm glad it's now in the past , and we can look forward to new things 😊. So I love the video, I need to do the same thing you are doing. I'm glad you're going to make more videos like this. You are such inspiration!

      Yes, I have more on the way! I plan to declutter my entire house, no matter how long it takes me. This was most definitely a vulnerable video, but quite honestly, I didn’t realize it would be when I got started.
      It kind of just unfolded the way it did! It all happened on camera - and so it is what it is! The honest truth 😅

    Good for you, Suzanne! You definitely know your personal style and colour palette. I, too, greatly reduced the black in my closet, and I don't miss it. I reduced my wardrobe a few years ago, and I'm so glad I did! But occasionally, I must go through it to reexamine and declutter what I don't wear. Well done and keep going through your home as most of us have much more than we need! Have a great week!

      Yes!!! I want to start sewing the aprons soon. Definitely try making some skirts. They are basically just 2 rectangles sewn together. Literally the easiest thing to sew. Biggest reward for your effort, plus you can tailor the exact length that you want, which is perfect. Look for fabric at the thrift store when you go. ❤️❤️❤️

    Congratulations on your sewing journey. I haven't sewed garments in a long time, but if they turned out as well as yours, I would be hooked. I too don't do black anymore. I find I like light coloredpieces are best. The white dress with lace is beautiful, and Would be lovely for a summer get-together. It's a keeper for sure. I do like your aprons, and I think I'm going to buy a pattern and make some for my girls, that do alot of cooking yet. Do you have aa apron pattern that you used with success?The long black skirt is lovely and would go beautifully with a lovely sweater in the winter. Please don't be too hard on yourself. I love your wardrobe in your videos and you do look vintage and lovely. Take care, Joan

      Thank you so much Joan ❤️ You are such a sweet lady.
      I did keep the white dress, the pioneer dress, most of my other skirts, 2 pairs of jean shorts and 2 tank tops for summer! But I got rid of 3 garbage bags full of clothing. Nothing feels better than donating it and being done.
      I haven’t seen any of my own aprons yet. I bought the ones that I have off Amazon. However, I just bought 2 patterns from Etsy. If you go over to Etsy, you can buy digital patterns that you print off and tape together, then cut out. I haven’t started them yet, but I have bought other digital patterns in the past.
      You will find a much bigger selection to choose from this way, than just buying at your local fabric store. There are lots of cute patterns! I try them buy fabric at the thrift store, if I can.

    I recently went through my clothing. I did not do quite as well as you though! I almost exclusively buy thrifted except undies, bras and socks. My problem is that when I get something I really love, I don't wear it for fear I'll ruin it! 🤦‍♀You are a great seamstress! Something I do not have the patience for.

  • @Michele_6815

    You did really well. I think you were wise to pull those items back out. I, too, went through a “get rid of lots of things” phase and regretted getting rid of some items. As for the vintage apron most of us don’t wear aprons in public so if you enjoy wearing it I’d keep it and just wear it in the kitchen. And I don’t see anything in your wardrobe that you couldn’t wear in public.- I mean people wear their pajamas in public. 😳 And wearing ripped jeans and brand new tennis shoes that are dirty is in style now. Now THAT is weird, lol!
    You seem to really feel good in your dropped waist jumpers and those are very easy to sew. They’re very flexible too. You can wear a short sleeved shirt during warm weather and long sleeves during cold. And lastly--sometimes I put items in a black bag and put them in my basement. In a couple of months if I didn’t think about it or miss the items I donated the bag WITHOUT opening in.

      You are so right 😂. My daughter once went to Walmart in her pyjamas with fuzzy slippers and a blue bonnet (as she had a hair mask in)….😂 I wanted to act like I didn’t know her 🤣
      I did end up getting rid of the apron. No regrets. I kept everything that I love and wear the most. Sometimes we keep things thinking we will wear it, but never do. I finally kicked them all to the curb ☺️

    LOVED this! I also have such a hard time parting with clothes. I'm trying to have only natural fabrics so eliminating the polyester, etc. However, I am having a hard time finding quality clothing even at thrift stores these days. There's a lot of poorly made, bad fabrics, and ugly styles out there. I have a bin that I keep in the basement where I put the clothes that I think I don't want but just can't part with yet. Maybe try that with some of yours? I think the red dress looks beautiful on you and please don't get rid of the white lace one! Maybe you could dye the white lace one?? --Barbara

    • @thefarmerswifecanada
      @thefarmerswifecanada  19 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Hi Barbara! ❤️ I too want to have natural fabrics. So much more comfortable. I love linen, and would love to get more at some point. It is just so expensive. I try to buy fabric second hand. You are totally right about the cheap fabrics and ugly styles. I see a lot of them turn up at the thrift store. Quality clothing is hard to come by.
      I actually did keep the white lace dress! I didn’t show it, but I got rid of 3 garbage bags full of clothing. I kept a small amount for summer, and the white dress is there. 😀

    Clothes are the hardest for me to part with. In my case I think it’s because clothing is such a personal thing - it reflects how we present ourselves to the world and becomes part of who we are. Plus, I do not want to feel I have made a mistake in spending money on something that I just don’t like or have occasion to wear. Your clothing is beautiful and unique to you and your tastes, especially your handmade items, but we only can wear or store so much. I love the items you kept especially the cape! I think the red looks wonderful on you ☺️

    • @thefarmerswifecanada
      @thefarmerswifecanada  19 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you!! ❤️ I find that it is especially hard if it is something I bought new versus thrifted. If I thrifted it, it is easy to let go of. There were several items that I kept again and again (through seasonal changes in my closet). It was finally time to say goodbye. If it never gets worn, it’s got to go!

  • @kittyrichards9915

    If you have it and wear it and love it - keep it and enjoy. But think things through before sewing or buying more items. Then you won't have to repeat this process in the near future. Keep some jeans, you look nice in them based on other videos.
