Ganzo Convex, Edge Geometry is so important.

  • This Ganzo in 8CR14 steel can hold up great with the right edge . The tip is thin, so don't abuse the knife , but as a good wood carving blade, it gets a passing grade from me.

All the Ganzo knives I used do fine.👍

That handle looks pretty comfortable too. I put a similar grind on a knife that I bought recently (another cheap one by Za-pas. So happy with how that one performs now.

@KuukkeliBushcraft The handle is excellent. That Za-pas knife has 80CrV2 👍 I love that steel . I haven't checked if we have them in the states yet. I love a good high scandiVex edge...I have more fun modding budget blades than buying spendy stuff, ya get some satisfaction out of it. . ..Unless ya screw it up LOL . Done that plenty of times.

I recently bought a ZAPAS Expendable. Very nice knife at a decent price!

When I first caught the knife sickness 15 years ago, I bought a lot of Kershaw folders in 8cr13mov. Tuff stuff. I think heat treatments are so much more dialed in even edge holding has improved on this steel. No need to spend all your money anymore. Even the 5 and 3cr's can perform. Don't worry about the traffic. Keeping it real is the way to go. I hope to get back to Colorado next summer. I so enjoyed the outdoors there. Then, hopefully, the Adirondacks the next summer.

@CommonCentsOutdoorsman I'm impressed with it , $15 who can complain. Yeah, I'd have to agree, this heat treatment looks good to me. During the reprofile, it was tougher to do than 80CrV2.
Thanks, man I appreciate that. I'm used to the traffic myself, been here for 12 years, so I don't notice much, but I know it can bug some folks.

Nice review, hermano! 👍 And your video and location works just great, bro. The woods are full of feral people that are starving to eat your liver.
I found your comment interesting about the 14C28N My NKD Korpi 85 is 14C28N, and with the zero scandi, it took some minor rolls when carving up some locust wood-hard stuff! They sharpened out ok, and once I slightly convexed the edge it’s worked much better without any issue. I’ve had the same thing happen on a few Mora blades, too. Some steels in a shallow zero scandi just can’t do hard woods well.

@blackhawkbushcraft So true, a zero degree scandi is mainly for carving tasks only. It's just too thin and finicky and a constant worry. There are purest who get their superhero underoos all tied in a knot . When ya talk about convexing or micro edges on scandi blades, they get very emotional 🤪
14C28N is excellent knife steel and way more affordable than all these new powder steels.
I think the Real Steel Bushcraft Plus Scnadi I had was most likely bad cooking. I sent it back and got the full flat version , thats a good blade but traded it for my fave the Ontario sk5 .
I've had so many knives I can't remember them all, pure madness 🤪

Awesome job on that edge even though it was 8cr steel more on the budget side, that thing was biting! I was really surprised!

@TXNpride It's a wicked slicer . I did not expect it to last long at all cause seasoned plum wood it's just horrible stuff. It really does bite and dives right into the wood .

Good job on the edge! I prefer a convex edge if I'm not using a scandi. Better than a standard v edge imho.

@Mr_Obvious Yep , I have come to favor them now over a scandi and V edge. I think I might look into getting a Bark River , just gotta sell my leg, I need my arm for playing with blades. 🤪

@@airiksknifereviews9548 Bark River does a good scandi-vex if you're into scandi grinds at all. I have the Bushcrafter in cruwear from them and it's a dream to carve with.

I wish I had access to these 'cheaper' knives. I live in the second largest country in the world, but our market is tiny compared to the US and even other places, so we tend to nit have the selection y'all do... 😢

@kanukkarhu That has got to suck BUT it makes ya appreciate what ya do have. I used to mail stuff to a friend I had in Canada many years ago . Back then the shipping was insanely expensive, I can imagine how much worse it has become. .
