Imagine you becoming a champion on the island and every contender always wonder why the champion always changing cars. Or better yet. The rental store wonder why this (supposed) famous person always comes back to their store
Because Ubisoft thinks buying meant renting, not buying meaning buying, which is what the EU thinks it should mean. If you can't properly own a Ubisoft game, then clearly they should be charged for revoking licenses for a game that YOU, as a consumer, bought. They're not services, they're goods. Not to mention the fact that those gurus saying that same copy/paste word about buying not owning and piracy isn't stealing don't understand that piracy means copyright violation and has NEVER been classified as stealing.
As a former TDUP player with a total of 44 profiles completed from scratch (before moving to TCM), I can say that you would not be able to get 100% completion with rental cars only. - There were 10 bike races in the game, and none of the bikes can be rented just like in the vanilla game. - 2 Lotus-only events require Lotus cars (of course), and you can't rent Lotus cars anymore in TDUP. - Many side missions requires specific cars, and many of them were not available on the rental lot anymore - meaning you had to buy it. - Vehicle collection achievements, of course require owning vehicles - not just renting them. Simply by winning The Millionaire's Challenge does not really count as a total completion either, the real total completion happened when you reached 100% progress in TDUP and got the 'Ace' rank.
I love these videos where you limit yourself gameplay-wise, gives you a lot of variety and I do like seeing different ways of completing a game. I'm hoping once TDU Solar Crown comes out you'll do the same if they implement it. Great video as always Dove, props to you and Javi for putting another banger video together!
Even when I played this game as a kid and replaying it again to Champion rank a few months ago, I never once considered beating the game with Rentals only. Like I've only done them for specific side missions or events relating to a specific car. Maybe I'll go try this out again when the want arises to revisit the game with a fresh save. Because it's kinda mundane trying to find all the roads and side missions within the map. 🥴
Hey question, have you gone to the secret island? It is the cruise ship located in the south east of Oahu. You can not drive to it. But there is a portal. The island has an underwhelming but fun small drift track next to the cruise ship. The portal is located high up on the mountain overlooking it, it was a pain to get to. Then again, it was 2006ish at the time. -Faye⚓
Such a nostalgia rush from this video! 😁 Loved to play this game. Too bad it was so buggy. Invisible cars were the worst during car delivery missions. And sometimes you just take damage for no reason. Other times the game was more lenient and let you hit stuff with no penalty. My favorite thing was to drive around, filling the map, discovering every road. And getting my favorite cars the most milage. So many good memories. And the race around the island... That was always a tough race for me.
8:45 106 thousand for 20 minutes of Ferrari?? How bad is the inflation??? Doing a same challenge with mod is very interesting, maybe it can spark new future video ideas, anyway nice video as always Dove and Javi 👍
It's a LaFerrari anyways. Rental prices were adjusted depending on the car's value - if you want to try driving expensive vehicles you would have to pay for it.
Haha, started playing TDU yesterday and I figured out a glitch how to play without owning any cars. During tutorial the game has you locked to the map screen and you have to fast travel to one of the three car dealerships. Here's the thing - you enter the Audi or Alfa dealership, then exit, then try to fast travel into the street next to the dealership. You will get deposited into a map in a special debug car. Except for the dealerships and the houses there is nothing there. You have to find one of the two starter houses without a map (no matter which one you bought) and enter it. The game will glitch thinking you finished the tutorial. You will have no car and you probably cannot fast travel while having the debug car active, but it is technically possible to play like this, the game will crash a ton though.
The race you should be going for as the big "end game" race is the Around the Island race, not the Millionaire's Challenge time trial. This one has a dedicated progress milestone, awards a car and rolls the credits when you beat it. In the Platinum Mod FAQ it states that lots of cars have very high top speeds listed due to having overdrive gears (like the Lexus) I think I wanted to write something more here, but I forgot. Good video anyway, I'll be reinstalling TDU Platinum because of it
I hope the new TDU:SC has missions that also require a specific car class or car model in order be forced to drive as many as there are. Of course you can reach The Millionaire's Challenge in TDU pretty easy but most engagement comes from all the " side content".
Can we learn the alphabet through TDU platinum (aka one car per letter challenge) pls? Last time it went quite smoothly im GT4. However, this time if you lose a race, you have to buy/rent a new car.
yep! love that accent, i also say it like that@@DoVe_7 ps: do you know a modder/cracker that cheats on slot machines? like develop some sort of software to trigger jackpots?😂
The TDU Solar Crown Demo was such a massive disappointment. Better than Forza in some ways for sure, but, is that really the bar? 597^2 mi. That's damn near 300 miles in either direction. When you factor in the fact that none of the roads in the game are direct routes... well, you end up with 1400 mi of roads. And while the game isn't the most detailed map on Earth, it's still gorgeous and it's the perfect setting for a racing game. I really thought, especially with the game being set on Hong Kong Island, that we would see the same level of innovation. But we just got Forza with a few extra bits. Don't get me wrong. TDU SC, once they fully release and fix the performance issues etc, will be one of the best racing games out right now. But, again, where is the bar? Where are the 1400mi of roads? Where is the whacky challenges? The cheesey story, or the charm of the old games? The interactions? The individual dealers rather than one weird hub thing? They took a game, that wasn't an open world racing game, but was an open world racing and lifestyle game, and they removed the lifestyle part. Now it's just another racing game. Part of the reason the map size made the game special, was because of how well it worked to create a sense of lifestyle. The individual car dealers, clothing stores etc. The carwash (lol) in TDU2, the events that specifically focus on the world scale. I remember when I first played TDU. I was in awe. You could sink SOOO many hours into it just doing exactly what you'd do IRL if you were dropped into such a dream scenario. If it weren't for the botched AI, TDU2 would have been just as fun, with the additional island, casinos etc. I remember when I finally bought my dream car, the Zonda Cinque. Then I went and bought every other Zonda in the game. It was a monumental moment. These games are special and I'm kind of upset that we haven't gotten, and probably never will get, a REAL successor to them.

TDU but car purchase is owned by UbiSoft.

Btw dove if you whip your car 90° to the side in the driving mission finish boxes, it instantly finishes no matter how fast you go into the box
I actually enjoy seeing this dude's videos.

Great mod and even greater game. Wait 'til next Platinium update. It's gonna be worth the waiting.
