I have a Honda GX22 and that is an awesome trimmer. So much torque at the low rpms is really nice. And they are so efficient that I usually fill it once or twice a month with the few yards I do. I also use a clients two stroke machine on about an acre and a half and I am constantly filling that thing up. Honda FTW!! :)
They are pretty awesome I must say. If I use it just for edging I swear the fuel level doesn't move a centimetre, but through longer stuff it gets a bit thirstier (still way less than most 2-strokes though). Last weekend I did an overgrown 1 acre paddock with the line trimmer head and it only used half a tank of fuel, and that was running full throttle through the really thick stuff. It's crazy-efficient. I'll try and organise a video of it going through some thick stuff, that's what it normally gets used for haha, maybe a 2-stroke vs 4-stroke compare too. We'll see.

Hi, thanks for the question. The strimmer has been faultless since new, all I've done is change the oil lots and kept the air filter nice and clean. I have a chainsaw attachment for the trimmer which gets used a lot, and even with the increased load that attachment puts on the engine, it does its job and doesn't complain. The Blower has only required a carb adjustment which was done under warranty last week, as it was not spooling up quickly and sometimes ran a bit strangely. Since that small adjustment though, it runs perfectly. As with the strimmer, the oil gets changed a lot, but that's my own preference - following the book is perfectly fine as well - and the air filter is kept clean. I've recently bought a Honda HRU197 M1 Mower as well, see the video on my channel, and it too has always started first time and runs perfectly. Thanks again :)

Low end torque Yeaaaaah ... sounds like piston slap already. This video is "BEST of" editing/begins just like a BIG BUDGET movie. i love.my RYOBI 4-cycle bushwaker thing... HEAVY use ...24 years old now ... still goin strong (change oil every 20 hours so....that helps alot 4 longevity) only had 2 replace the fuel lines & pump thing recently. cost 200$ ... this HONDA ?? may be good/better
Hello, we have a problem with our one and it is a ryobi, it starts fine but when you let it idle it’s RPM’s slowly go down and eventually shuts itself off after about 8 seconds, when you try to restart it, it it really hard to start up again. When you don’t let it die out and just start and stop it as normal it starts first pull, do you know what the problem could be?
Just received and it started leaking gas just minutes after trimming for the first time. Noticed also that engine area was too hot. Will be returning and hopefully give it another shot 🤔

I read a professional saying that it is underpowered compared to a 2 stroke. He favoured the Tanaka. Noisier but more efficient and has a quick start. Have you tried any of the competitors and really compared their work effectiveness?
bodee beatty It all depends on a number of factors. The 4 strokes have more torque at lower RPM and similar power at high RPM. Their only limiting factor against 2 strokes is a lower maximum RPM limit, however generally the gearbox at the end of the shaft is geared in such a way as to speed the head up using all that low end torque. If I needed to buy another trimmer now, I'd buy the larger, 35cc Honda 4 Stroke, however for 90% of everyone who needs a trimmer, the 25cc 4 Stroke which I have is absolutely fine.

Hola, creo que tiene un problema en el que se apagará cuando se utiliza la máquina. Me gustaría que usted intente retirar la tapa de combustible cuando se apaga y luego tratar de encender la máquina de nuevo. Si la máquina se enciende después de quitar la tapa de combustible, intente reemplazar la tapa de combustible por uno nuevo como las rejillas de ventilación en la tapa puede llegar a ser bloqueado y matar de hambre el motor de combustible.
Thanks. Not a single curse word uttered with the 4 stroke Honda trimmer when starting :D Every Honda engine I have will start on 1-2 pulls, even after being in storage for the entire winter season. Even my Honda motor pressure sprayer with 1 year of no use starts on the 1-2 pull. Never more. I do take care of my stuff. Oil is changed twice each season and I use synthetic. Avoid ethanol fuels and use upper cylinder lubricant additive. Another awesome engine in my lawnmower is a Briggs and Stratton professional series 24 HP V twin with pressurized oil delivery. The only non-Honda engine in my arsenal. Starts and runs fantastic. It will easily outlast the lawn tractor it is bolted to.
Sorry 2 stroker fanboy. It was a Poulan trimmer. Ethanol fuel, being a Poulan and all the other problems with cold blooded 2 strokes. The ONLY 2 stroke piece of equipment is my STIHL chainsaw. Unless it was used daily, it too will never start under 4 pulls.
...and don't get me wrong. Two strokes have the highest output to weight. Amazing engines. Best for jet skies, snowmobiles, race quads, dirt bikes and chainsaws. But when I want to trim weeds after work, just want something easy and quick to start and reliable. Otherwise it's press the primer bulb 2-6 times. Listen for when fuel squirts into the carb... Can't hear because of the airplane overhead. Set choke to middle...or was it to full? Did I flood it? It's full on game until warm up. Best idea for a video game: Getting a 2-stroke chainsaw with a time limit; attempt to start it as the end boss zombie is bearing down on you. You have to fidget with all the settings for it to start or you die. All the Honda 4 stroke equipment I can put away into storage. Six months later, press the primer bulb (if there is one) or set the automatic choke. 2nd pull starts every time. One pull after that. Can't do that with a 2-stroke garden tool.
How reliable is the oiling system?? Does it operate in all cutting positions with starving for oil?. How about hydraulic locking the piston?? Good luck.
Dixie Pangonis Hi Dixie, the oiling system uses a large slinger attached to the crankshaft to turn all the oil in the sump into a fine mist which is then pumped throughout the engine with crankcase pressure. As the oil is not sitting as a liquid, there are zero starvation issues - oil mist is being distributed to all parts of the engine no matter the cutting position/orientation of the engine. Hydraulic locking of the piston can only occur if the unit is stored engine up and trimmer head down (e.g. hung on a wall). If the unit is stored horizontally, or vertically (but with the engine down, trimmer head up), no oil will enter the cylinder. I hope that helps!
I just got one of these recently the owner said it was sitting for about 15 years. There was gunk in the tank and the fuel lines were super rotted. After some new fuel lines and a filter( Also washed the tank with a bit of fresh gas) it fired right up and runs pretty good. It’s stalling out occasionally here and there after it’s ran for a while but even my new Stihls shut off randomly from time to time. I’d say the bump head on this Honda is just as bad as most people say it is and I’ll be putting an echo speed feed on it or possibly a Honda speed feed if I can find one. I mostly just really enjoyed using this trimmer today around a house because this is a gentle trimmer. Quite frankly this things a little girl compared to my Stihl 240 or my Stihl 131 but this Honda trimmer is super quiet and has plenty of power for smaller jobs like backyards and maybe stuff up to a quarter acre or so if the weeds aren’t too woody. This hh25 only puts out 1 horsepower and even the larger hh35 cc Honda is only 1.3 horses. So nice and quiet though.

+camalus reiyetsi Hey mate, most likely the air vent in the fuel cap is clogged. Just as it stall, try loosening the fuel cap to let in some air, it should continue to work as it should. You can either try to clean out the air vent with some wire or something, or you can just buy a whole new fuel cap assembly. Hope that helps!
+Tony Tran They are both very good trimmers. I prefer the Honda, but the Makita is often cheaper to buy. I would buy whichever one you like the feel of better

+Tony Tran I believe the Makita's engine is a Subaru design, but could be wrong. It is a well proven unit. If they are the same price, I would buy the Honda as I have three tools with the Honda GX25 engine and nothing has ever broken down or needed anything more than regular oil changes.
Good one. Way, way back I had a little 4 cylinder car during one of our oil embargoes in the 1970s (gas was a mind-boggling $0.55 per gallon!). A kind, decent and thoughtful co-worker asked me one morning after working the midnight shift as I was starting my little car; "Does your lawnmower really need to warm up?" Oh, I was very young and I laughed at my friend's observation but I took his point to heart. I was a little stung too but at the time with so many layered responsibilities that little car was all I could afford. I wanted a V8 family car or something cooler but my dear wife was so much better at handling the money as our marriage was still in its early stages.

I have a McCulloch trimmer. I spend 30-45 minutes every time trying got get the thing to start. This looks like an amazing quality trimmer.
The Honda trimmers are very good quality. I use this thing for way more than it's designed for and it just keeps going. It's excellent.

Thanks for the comment. The noise is not piston slap, but is the valvetrain rattling at idle.

It could need a carburettor adjustment or a new spark plug. Maybe even a new carburettor if it’s that bad.

After some new fuel lines and a filter( Also washed the tank with a bit of fresh gas) it fired right up and runs pretty good. It’s stalling out occasionally here and there after it’s ran for a while but even my new Stihls shut off randomly from time to time. I’d say the bump head on this Honda is just as bad as most people say it is and I’ll be putting an echo speed feed on it or possibly a Honda speed feed if I can find one. I mostly just really enjoyed using this trimmer today around a house because this is a gentle trimmer. Quite frankly this things a little girl compared to my Stihl 240 or my Stihl 131 but this Honda trimmer is super quiet and has plenty of power for smaller jobs like backyards and maybe stuff up to a quarter acre or so if the weeds aren’t too woody. This hh25 only puts out 1 horsepower and even the larger hh35 cc Honda is only 1.3 horses. So nice and quiet though.

+camalus reiyetsi Hey mate, most likely the air vent in the fuel cap is clogged. Just as it stall, try loosening the fuel cap to let in some air, it should continue to work as it should. You can either try to clean out the air vent with some wire or something, or you can just buy a whole new fuel cap assembly. Hope that helps!

+Tony Tran I believe the Makita's engine is a Subaru design, but could be wrong. It is a well proven unit. If they are the same price, I would buy the Honda as I have three tools with the Honda GX25 engine and nothing has ever broken down or needed anything more than regular oil changes.

Good one. Way, way back I had a little 4 cylinder car during one of our oil embargoes in the 1970s (gas was a mind-boggling $0.55 per gallon!). A kind, decent and thoughtful co-worker asked me one morning after working the midnight shift as I was starting my little car; "Does your lawnmower really need to warm up?" Oh, I was very young and I laughed at my friend's observation but I took his point to heart. I was a little stung too but at the time with so many layered responsibilities that little car was all I could afford. I wanted a V8 family car or something cooler but my dear wife was so much better at handling the money as our marriage was still in its early stages.
