This title should have been "If Red was defeated" because it was never confirmed in all the Pokemon battles, that Red lost those. For an example, Gold never defeated Red on M.T. Silver, nor the other way around, but it was confirmed that Red never lost a single battle in Kanto / gen 1 games (Pokemon red, blue, green, and yellow). That does not mean he can't lose, it just means he did not lose in gen 1.
