Thank you so much for this video. I’ve never built anything like this before and couldn’t have gotten through this without you!! I built it right along with you step by step. Also tried to screw the metal gasket onto the music box backwards and then cracked up when you did the exact same thing
This video helped me a lot! I got this set last Christmas, but only now got around to building it. It's my first one, and when I opened it, I had to find out that my set only came with Chinese instructions 😧 I'm glad I found this video, not just for the instructions, but also for the tips and tricks since I never tried something like this before. I was able to build it alongside you, with no problems! And I only broke one piece (the one that you have to turn, like a key), but there was a spare one anyway 😄 The music box works just fine, but it definitely struggled a little bit in the beginning. Hey, oh my, I’m so delighted that I was able to help you and you are more than welcome 😊 And trust me, it’s quite impressive if you only broke 1 piece on your first model, I broke a lot more than that on my first one I think 😂 And if you have any major problems with it, I have a troubleshooting video for it as well just in case 😊 What’s your next model then? Magic piano maybe?
@@MartinsAssemblyHaven Thank you! I will have a look at the troubleshooting video soon, my music box still sometimes stops, but it doesn't bother me all that much to be honest 🙂 The magic piano looks beautiful, but I chose the magic cello because it looks close enough to a violin if you don't look too closely, and I play violin 😄 It looks beautiful on my violin shelf. I don't play piano though, so I'd only make that one maybe as a gift for a friend who plays piano and has no interest in assembling it themselves. As my next project, I have ordered the Rokr pendulum clock! I always wanted a cool mechanical clock and it looks like it will be fun to build 🥰 It also looks a little easier, I think, because what I struggled with most of all with the cello, was the tight spaces inside the violin and the books, and the clock is a lot more open. I also love the Rokr Zodiac Wall Clock, but it is outside of my budget right now 😢 Can you recommend me some brands that are similar to Rokr? And that pendulum clock does look really nice and I hope you enjoy the build as well, and you never know, one day you’ll get the Zodiac clock and you’re going to love it 😊 And other brands that I can recommend are WoodTrick, I have assembled a few of their models and they are great, but their pieces are quite tough to click in the places so using a tool to help is a must, otherwise you’ll end up with sore finger tips. There is also UGears, but I haven’t assembled any of their models so I don’t know how their kits are. Hey, oh my goodness, I completely forgot to look at the instructions and I had to discard all the boxes as I had too many, hence I do t have the instructions with me anymore. Sorry about that 🫤
Hey, I had to discard all my boxes as I had too many, hence I don’t have the instructions anymore to look at it. But either way, the model still worked perfectly fine 😊
I got it finished. I was so scared to wind up the movement, sure I probably messed something up somewhere, but it worked perfectly. Thanks for the video, it helped a lot. I triple checked everything as I went, it would be so easy to miss something.
I wanted to add that I did something kind of hilarious. I broke one of the smaller gears but there was a spare. My neighbor just happened to bring me over some christmas cookies (they were delicious), and decided to eat some while working on it. Just happened to get the spare gear in my mouth along with the cookie, and broke that one too. I managed to glue it back together and so far it is holding up.
Hey Wayne, that’s amazing that it’s completed and everything’s working and you’re more than welcome 😊 Haha no way, what are the chances of biting into one of those gears, I assume it didn’t taste of anything? 😂 I’m chuffed you managed to glue it together and it holds, amazing 😀
Your tutorial helped me out so much. If I hadn’t of found this I would have never completed it and just let it gather dust. I was wondering if you could do the parachute tower as I want to buy it but I don’t want to without a good tutorial and can’t find one. I would really appreciate it if you could do this but you don’t have to.
Hey Marcee, aww that’s amazing and I’m delighted you enjoyed it and it helped out 😊 As for the parachute tower, you never know, maybe one day, but I can’t promise anything of course.
I came here to check on one issue I was having trouble with, and it looks you completely skipped it - the last part of step 13 (circa 3:28). The requires applying double-sided adhesive tape (P18) to secure the open pages of the book to the base. I believe there is a small error in the model here. The top edge of the two F1 parts should be flush with the top of the two D2 parts but they aren't exactly. This results in a gap that makes it difficult to apply the tape as instructed.
Hey, oh my goodness you’re right, I just looked through the instructions and yeah I can see it was asking for the tape but I totally missed that part, but tbh you don’t really need it as the book was in place and didn’t open up or anything. I hope you’re enjoying the assembly 😊
Had the same problem at the end of the build something is too tight. Won't take it apart however, beautiful as it is. Might try to create a gear toothed strip on the back, if it still doesn't move after loosening those bushings...
Hey Roger. Oh I see, I assume a lot of folk probably go through the same issue with this model and yes I agree it’s beautiful as is, but of course much better if it works. I hope it all works out after you loosen a couple of those bushings 🤞
@@rogerruffner7570 That’s absolutely brilliant Roger, I’m delighted such an easy fix worked out and whoever received it as a gift from you will love it 😊
i just built this and when i wound it up to give it a go but it stops working after a few seconds. let me try to explain what is happening. the gear's teeth on the back of the cello fit almost perfectly to the grooves of the music box gear. after a few seconds, the teeth of the cello gear no longer fit perfectly and as a result the cello gear is pushed upward along with the shaft. this friction is too great and it stops. i nudge the gear downward so that the teeth once again fit into the music box gear and it resumes but then stops again. any ideas on what i can do?
Hey David, oh that’s an interesting one. I assume the gears have been sanded and waxed? I know the gear is getting pushed up, but it may help. Otherwise it possibly sounds like the cello gear is misaligned slightly, basically squint or there’s simply something on the inside too loose. It’s hard to tell without seeing it. But I would open it up to have a look 😊
@martinsassemblyhaven after much deliberation I took it all apart and started from scratch. I had no idea the wax was included as it isn't listed in the parts list lol. I was also missing a piece behind the cello. I had to file down one of the teeth of the gears because it was causing the bow to jolt when it moves from right to left. It works well now :)
When to use thou or thee? “Thou” was the singular version of today's word “you,” when it was used as a subject (e.g., “Thou sings so beautifully”; “get thou back to your studies”). “Thee” was the singular version, when it was used as an object (e.g., I took thee to the castle; he called thee).
Hey Vivian, I do have a troubleshooting video for the cello where I go through a couple of bits that can cause it from not working or jamming if you fancy checking it out 😊
Ah, that’s a pretty easy fix. It too much to explain here, but there’s a troubleshooting video for the cello on my channel that explains how to align them properly if you want to check it out 😊
Hey Catalina, I believe someone did actually mention that here. Is that the step where it was supposed to be a wooden piece and not the plastic spacer/sleeve?
Hello, I know you posted this 3 months ago, but I just bought this, and after assembling it, the gears would turn, but randomly stop. I wonder if you know what is the problem?
Hey, Ah I hope you enjoyed the build 🙂 See when the gears stop, is it mostly when the bow is nearly the furthest to the left or to the right side of the cello?
Got it. It could be because of one of the half gears, not sure what their proper name is. It can happen because one of them is slightly misaligned with the other half gear and when one of the half gears is supposed to release the bow and then the other gear latches on the bow it doesn’t resale it, so one of the half gears teeth is still on the bow when it’s supposed to be free, hence when the other half gear tries to latch on the bow and move the bow the other way it just can’t because the other half gears tooth is still on the bow. I hope this makes sense.
You can try and move that half gear to the left slightly when it gets stuck and kind of twist it slightly to the left, but not too hard or too much as you might break it. The hardest option would be dismantling the cello and tightening that gear assembly as it may be just slightly too lose and it dangling downwards slightly causing that last tooth to be stuck on the bow.

Oh I see, I assume a lot of folk probably go through the same issue with this model and yes I agree it’s beautiful as is, but of course much better if it works.
I hope it all works out after you loosen a couple of those bushings 🤞
@@MartinsAssemblyHaven - VERY carefully loosened those bushings and it worked! Was able to give it away as the gift it was intended! Thanks!
@@rogerruffner7570 That’s absolutely brilliant Roger, I’m delighted such an easy fix worked out and whoever received it as a gift from you will love it 😊
Thank you so much man
You’re more than welcome 😊
@@MartinsAssemblyHaven you are so appreciative

i just built this and when i wound it up to give it a go but it stops working after a few seconds. let me try to explain what is happening.
the gear's teeth on the back of the cello fit almost perfectly to the grooves of the music box gear. after a few seconds, the teeth of the cello gear no longer fit perfectly and as a result the cello gear is pushed upward along with the shaft. this friction is too great and it stops.
i nudge the gear downward so that the teeth once again fit into the music box gear and it resumes but then stops again.
any ideas on what i can do?
Hey David, oh that’s an interesting one.
I assume the gears have been sanded and waxed? I know the gear is getting pushed up, but it may help.
Otherwise it possibly sounds like the cello gear is misaligned slightly, basically squint or there’s simply something on the inside too loose.
It’s hard to tell without seeing it. But I would open it up to have a look 😊
@martinsassemblyhaven
after much deliberation I took it all apart and started from scratch. I had no idea the wax was included as it isn't listed in the parts list lol. I was also missing a piece behind the cello. I had to file down one of the teeth of the gears because it was causing the bow to jolt when it moves from right to left. It works well now :)
Aahh happy days, I’m glad you went back and waxed and sanded, magic 😀
When to use thou or thee?
“Thou” was the singular version of today's word “you,” when it was used as a subject (e.g., “Thou sings so beautifully”; “get thou back to your studies”). “Thee” was the singular version, when it was used as an object (e.g., I took thee to the castle; he called thee).
Hey, now that’s what me random question 😅
And one is used for as subject and one as object.
Thanks for showing me where the gaskets were, lol.
Haha no problem at all 😃
What grit sandpaper do you use?
From what I remember it was 120 grit 😊
Same issue. Mine wouldn't play either I'm sure i didn't space a gear correctly.
Hey Vivian, I do have a troubleshooting video for the cello where I go through a couple of bits that can cause it from not working or jamming if you fancy checking it out 😊
My gears aren't alligned at the end, how do you fix this issue.
Hey, is it the gears that connect the cello to the actual music box or the gears just behind the bow?
@ the gears behind the bow
Ah, that’s a pretty easy fix. It too much to explain here, but there’s a troubleshooting video for the cello on my channel that explains how to align them properly if you want to check it out 😊
@MartinsAssemblyHaven I ended up breaking a piece lol. It was the part that holding the cello bow down.
Thankfully there was an extra. Thank you so much for your help it works perfectly!
Hi! I believe you missed a piece. Step 2, E21 below E15 😮
Hey,
Ah I hope you enjoyed the build 🙂
See when the gears stop, is it mostly when the bow is nearly the furthest to the left or to the right side of the cello?
@@MartinsAssemblyHaven Yes.
@@MartinsAssemblyHaven Yeah, the top half-gear gets stuck at the edge of the bow. I have to touch it then it works again.

What’s happening there? 🤔
@MartinsAssemblyHaven Just saving my time on the video
@Thelabrat64 Aahh, smart 😀
So if I melt my wax I can just dip the gears in?
You could yes, but just be careful with how thick the layer is because it could interfere with the gear connection.
