  • "A poetic tale of a young boy’s overactive imagination. R to L (Japanese Style). GoGo Monster is a nuanced tale of a young boy and his overly active imagination. Nine-year-old Yuki Tachibana lives in two worlds. In one world, he is a loner ridiculed by his classmates and reprimanded by his teachers for telling stories of supernatural beings that only he can see. In the other worlds, the super natural beings vie for power with malevolent spirits who bring chaos into the school, the students lives and nature itself."

I agree with your review and in my personal experience I felt like I was making it a chore to finish. It took me a few weeks to finish it. However it does all come together near the end and really illustrates and explains how an over-active imagination or even very abstract thinking like learning about 'imaginary numbers' or 'linear fractal transformations to solve equations in the complex plane' can cause a soft of contagious psychological disease. I wish the book was actually shorter. Spring and Winter felt really short but it is also modeled around how a school year is. Summer and Fall are long but school is typically over in Spring. The end of the book really helped if it was not executed like that I would just have regretted wasting my time on this.
