oh I'm so excited, I'll be staying at Aloft after Christmas and it looks amazing! I was also in Langkawi 3 years ago and stayed at the resort across the road by the beach and was also very good! I hope we have just as great views as this from our rooms! Interested to see how Langkawi has changed since covid as we were lucky enough to visit just before it started! Its not a scam. They do it in the US too when you use a credit card. Nothing new.
The RM200 charge in petrol station is a normal thing. It's a pre-approval transaction to ensure you have sufficient balance (or credit limit) before you start refueling. The balance will be credited to your card (including international cards) but the process may take several days. The obvious reason why the system works this way is because they don't want people to refill RM120 with a card that has RM10 in it.
after over a month unfortunately haven't returned the money.
@@Danygotaworldtosee I understand now the real reason for the Rm200. Nothing to do with your balance or credit limit but it's because of the style of payment.
In Malaysia, you pay/tap first, and then you fill. Therefore, the bank doesn't know how much to charge (because you haven't filled your fuel yet). So the RM200 is just a blanket charge to all cards on all fueling activities.
Once you have filled your fuel and the amount is determined, it will be returned.
So:
1. It is NOT a scam.
2. You have to check your bank statement whether : the Rm200 is charged and then returned, and the fuel charge is charged again. RM200, -Rm200, Rm5.xx or the balance is returned : RM200, -Rm194.xx.
Clarify with your bank if it's not returned.
Lesson learn. It is normal to get refund in your bank within 1 to 2 months, at least 1 month next account statement after using credit card at fueling machine. Use cash if you want the instant return for full tank amount. To avoid this unconvenience, use credit card at counter with exact amount.
Next time go to counter and tell them to fill up first. After that go back to counter to pay.

I've seen quite a few foreign youtubers complaint the same "scammed" thing. It's not a scam.. rest assured. My advise to any foreigner, just use cash for small transaction like filling up your bike's small tank.

Gas stations here in the US sometimes do that deposit thing too. As soon as you run the card they put a "Pending" charge on your card as a deposit. When you complete the gas transaction they charge you the actual price and purge the "Pending" transaction. Not sure why some places do this, but...?
Usually if you use the credit card at the pump by default it will debit rm200 from your card limit and after finishing pumpiing say rm10 the credit card company will release back the rm200 and charge rm10. It is better as a foreigner to use the credit card at the cashier inside the shop and tell them you only want to pump x amount and they will swipe the card accordingly. For motorcycle few bucks will be sufficient and usually in cash

I’m doing a trip to Malaysia and love your videos! Do you recommend Langkawi? I only have 8 nights so was going to do 3 in Penang and 5 in KL but could do 2 in Langkawi!
I have been to Phuket and Langkawi, and I actually prefer Langkawi much more over Phuket. Didn't like Phuket much but Krabi was amazing though. I did spend 1 week in Langkawi around Pantai Cenang in Jan 2017 and did a lot or tours including a day trip to Koh Lipe in Thailand in peak seas
I want to choose between Langkawi and Phuket
@@yaserkelany Depends on what you are looking for - I can't make that decision for you. Personally loved Langkawi much more. Try and do both if you can - they are not far from each other. Maybe 4 days each on both islands

but Langkawi is the most complete package island in Malaysia with the good road condition, nice international airport, nice healthcare system, many great 5 stars hotel, relatively clean, duty free, nice waterfall, majestic mountain landscape and so many more
Langkawi and Bali are two of the most popular destinations in ASEAN. If you want to enjoy a honeymoon vacation with nature and serenity you can visit Langkawi but if you want to enjoy the night world, local culture, culinary delights, you can visit Bali. So make your choice from now on.

You should check your account statement and contact the bank for your refund. Honestly its more of the bank messing up than a scam.
Whenever you initiate the card payment on terminal and its approved, RM200 is deducted on the spot regardless if you proceed with the transaction or not.
It's a standard procedure set by the banks. Reason being, as you use the card before filling the tank, the bank don't know how much to charge and hold some amount as "guarantee" money. Usually it took less than a day for the RM200 to be returned to your account and they will charge you for the fuel. Some banks don't even alert or notify you of this but you will see this transaction on your bank statement. Credit/ debit card will also be decline if the balance is less than RM200.
Source i'm a local who only use this payment method exclusively whenever i fill up my tank.

The water sports is absolutely amazing and not overpriced like Bali. Langkawi is definitely the best all of Asia . Also the aloft at night is full of mosquitoes 😅

omg.. danny be careful with your history.. you are mixing up your facts with somewhere else.. i think its Melaka history you are mixing up with.. Langkawi was a virgin Island a few decades ago with a population of just a few hundred.. all you see has been develop in the past 40 years.. it has very little local history that involved European colonialist.. you should go to Penang or Melaka next..

Langkawi is greatly depending on the tourist for survival. Their local business owner and the people that work in the tourism business. If all of these gone, the first people they will blame is the state government for not doing a good job!

Why waste time and money. Just fly to Bangkok or go to Sabah and you can always have better time there with fraction of the price of Langkawi.
Sanusi shouldn't be so bother about the tourism industry since he say he can attract billions of investment from overseas and billions of REE deposit in Kedah. What is mere few millions tourism industry to Sanusi.
The RM200 "deposit" for using credit cards at petrol stations in Malaysia is just stupid. Next time just pay cash guys.
Why stupid? If you own a petrol station would you like people to refill RM140 but you ended up getting only RM20 because the card reach its limit? Without the RM200 deposit everybody would have to state the exact amount they want to refill but it's impractical.
Everybody including Malaysian get charged RM200 for card confirmation. They will return the money later

That's sad to hear about your experience in the gas station. Check your bank statement if RM5.52 was deducted and RM194.48 was return to your account. Usually the return is instant on the same date or maybe in a couple days. Perhaps there's a problem with the bank on the transaction. I hope you can sort it out. And I hope, apart from that, you're not too disappointed with the most famous island in the country. 😁
Seems like you don't know all gas stations will charge RM200 pre-approval for people who use debit & credit card.

Check your card monthly statement. I believe it's not being charged. That's why u dont see any refund. The station will only charge the amount u filled up. RM200 was just 'floating' at that time.

Preauthorized amount wouldn't be so much more than the actual transaction amount.
It may be a little bit more than the current exchange rate but definitely not 200% more.
On top of that, it would update after 2-3 business days. Mine always update within 24 hours.

Concerning your scammed experience. That is un-acceptable. Kindly contact your credit card/Visa/master agents as well as lodge an inquiry/complaint to Petronas. I can't type the link but just type 'mymesra complaints' and you'll get to the official website. Do lodge the complaint as this shouldn't be tolerated and should be clarified.
That is not a scam and every petrol stations will charge RM200 as "pre-approval transaction" and return the balance right after we finish refueling. What's going unacceptable it's 2022 but you still don't know about this.
