    I changed both my car and my caravan at the same time and when I tried hooking them up I got nothing. Saw your video and bought the same tester (now £17) and just checked my towbar and only got red lights. At least I can now call the fitter back out knowing the fault is in the towbar electrics. Thanks for the video :)

      That sounds like it did the trick for you, I checked the caravan electrics with it last week....all green! Thanks for comments and watching

    Just bought one of these and just to clarify it is designed to test the towing vehicle and caravan circuits separately.Also it does check the bulbs on the caravan.To check this I took the L/H indicator bulb out of the caravan and sure enough the turn L led on the tester changed from green to red.A very useful bit of kit enabling you to check both car and caravan circuits without coupling up.I have now taken the 9v battery out and it is stored in the car boot.

      when you plug it into the car socket,.......and you turn on the left indicator, does the led light start flashing then? so that you can see if the cables at the correct spot

    Say if I turn the indicator on, will the bulb flash so I know I've wired to the correct terminal?

    • @TheCaravanNut
      @TheCaravanNut  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don’t think so, if it’s not wired correctly the lights won’t come on. You can also use it independently with car or caravan/trailer to check wiring. Cheers

    If this is plugged in will the car think a caravan is plugged in? I’m considering getting one just to check the coding to my car has been done correctly (ie turn off rear parking sensors when towing).

    • @TheCaravanNut
      @TheCaravanNut  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don’t think it will check that, it just checks the circuit.

  • @anthdci
    @anthdci 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Does this work without the caravan plugged in? I’m fitting a tow bar shortly and want to check the wiring is working correctly before going to the caravan storage to bring it home only to find out there is a wiring issue.

    • @TheCaravanNut
      @TheCaravanNut  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it can be use independently to the car or caravan. Cheers

    Hi, do you need a trailer plugged into it just to test the car electrics?

    • @TheCaravanNut

      No, you ca do either side individually.

    Never used that make before but the ones I have used you do the car and caravan/trailer separately. Can also be used on the car to test each circuit individually left Indicator, right indicator etc just as you would check the actual caravan lights.

    • @TheCaravanNut
      @TheCaravanNut  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ben, yes seems to be ok and makes a wiring check much easier. I've not used it individually yet but will be giving it a go. Thanks for comments and watching, Martin

    We bought one of these for our caravan (7 PIN) but then changed the entire exterior lighting to LEDs & new LED clusters at the back, so never needed to use it. However I have a brilliant tester, it’s called a ‘wife’ it never breaks down or looses power! 😂

    • @TheCaravanNut

      I use the ‘Wife’ tester 😂 not always accurate but does the job! Thanks for watching 😊

  • @lecyman
    @lecyman 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    IT is designed to test either the car or the trailer, not both.

  • @NatSatFat
    @NatSatFat 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Martin, Please can you clarify some things please. On the hanset, on the car check side( top with up triangle) it has 2 lights Tail L & Tail R, is this the car L & R indicators lights check? and on the Trailer check side (bottom with down triangle) is this the repeater indicator lights, showing on the caravan from the car?.
    And you said while you were pointing at the "backup light" with your thumb, that it is the reversing light, is this so? showing a repeater signal (reversing light) from the car to the caravan.
    sorry, this is just to be sure, seems like a good bit of kit to buy.

    • @TheCaravanNut
      @TheCaravanNut  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Bryn, hope you are well. The arrows in the centre refer to the direction of plugging it in, Car check side plug that end in the car and trailer check side, trailer into that end. There is a light that says 'Backup' which refers to reverse light circuit. It will test the car electrical circuits when just plugged in to the car and the caravan electrics when you plug the van in. I didn't try it with just the caravan plugged in and not attached to the car but will see if it still works next time I go to the storage. Hope that answers your question, thanks, Maritn

    So you still need to check the bulbs visually. I would do that first and if any did not work I'd just get stuck in with a multimeter.
    Battery cover cracks when you take it off, but _"other than that quite well made"_ LoL !

    • @TheCaravanNut
      @TheCaravanNut  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s just a gadget for quick wiring check, I would also use a multimeter if needed. Couldn’t believe I broke the battery cover after reading about it! I knew that would happen 😂

  • @alba1307
    @alba1307 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The way you show it in the video, if it shows a fault, how du you know if it is the car or trailer its wrong with.

    • @TheCaravanNut
      @TheCaravanNut  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can connect it to the van and car independently and it will check the connections. I should have shown that in the vlog. Cheers

    @garymcafee5995 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Martin I'm not sure you're using this right, I don't think you connect it to the car and the caravan at the same time after all why would you not just go and look at the caravan lights to see if they are working. I think that it tests each socket and plug individually without connecting up

    • @TheCaravanNut
      @TheCaravanNut  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Gary, When I used it for the first time, in the vlog, I didn’t think about using it just in the car or attached to the van on it’s own. I have since used it on the van when not connected to the car and on the car when not connected to the van and it worked fine. I do check the lights visually this gadget just helps diagnose the issue quicker. From the instructions it can be used either way. Thanks for your comments and feedback, Martin

      @@TheCaravanNut Hi Martin I have bought on of these and i do like taking things to bits, The internal wiring is very small and i doubt it is large enough to carry the current of the lights let alone the Fridge load that's why i was sceptical of using it "inline". I am in the electricity industry as a job. Carry on with the good work
