Kumudakriya is one of my all time favorite ragas in Carnatic music. Why I admire this raga so much, and why I am almost obsessed with it (just like I am obsessed with Bhairavi !), is a mystery to me. Perhaps it is because this raga, when properly sung, generates the sense of awe and wonderment (adbhuta rasa), and so I am in awe of the raga. It is grand and dazzling. Sri Deekshitar’s Ardhanaareeshwaram aaraadhayaami satatam is also one of my most favorite kritis. I have listened to the rendering of this kriti by nearly two dozen vocalists, including Sangeethakalaanidhis Sri Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer and Sri Maharajapuram Santanam. So, I was very happy to come across and listen to this video also. I am also very glad that you are trying to maintain the purity of this raga. It is a very sensitive raga; it is not easy to sing this raga. A reviewer in the Hindu said the same thing: that any experimenting with it, or meddling with it, for example by doing griha bhedam, will ruin the raga completely. In TH-cam, there are several videos on this kriti. I am especially impressed with two of them. Those who are interested can watch these two videos. Mrs. Ranjani-Mrs. Gayatri duo have sung it most wonderfully well. Their singing evokes the adbhuta rasa this raga generates when sung properly. (V=p5ivBLFxgjk). Sri Kuldeep M Pai has sung this kriti wonderfylly also. (v=b5yuBGJugFw). But I was distressed to see that by doing “griha bhadham” and meddling with this sensitive ragam, Sri Sriram Parthasarathy deformed it (v=JoFU5L0drLs). Carnatic vocalists need to preserve the purity of this dazzling ragam and protect it, I believe, because it is gem of a raga. So thank you very much for teaching this raga in its pristine form. This popular composition by Sri Muttuswami Dīkshitar was rendered in Arthanareeswarar Temple, Tiruchengode. Details of the temple are given here : th-cam.com/video/cmPW3Qz7O5s/w-d-xo.html
Thank you so much for such wonderful teaching with meaning. Would it be possible for you to share the swara notations also? Would be a great help for instrumentalist.
Thank you very much for this wonderful teaching video.
