Well, true 3,050 fps with a 64 grain in a 16" barrel is very good, and the bullet performance was excellent. For years, I have loaded the old 62g TBBC, and since I had purchased a large lot of those bullets from a component dealer and they performed very well, I never thought I would try anything else. The 62 TBBC's work well for short range deer hunting, but it looks now that I may have to try a box of these Winchester 64's. Again, another excellent video and bullet test that helps all of us to make better informed decisions and not waste our money.

WONDERFUL video!!! I usually fire the 'Regular stuff' (ie, the cheaper/more affordable!) through my AR's, because I'm just out enjoying shooting. Watching your videos that delve into the 'Ballistics' and the DIFFERENCES between any given Manufacturer of the ammo and/or firearm/platform, really gets my attention! I'm going to have to get some of these beauties, and then take them to task. I'm curious to see how they pattern at longer distance(s). Thank you!
They are some real performers but hard to get and pricey. A couple of great alternatives are The Speer Gold Dot and Federal Fusion. Very similar results. Have also had good results from most soft points in 5.56/.223. I'm like you though, I mostly just run 193 fmj.
This round is devastating on hogs out of my 13.7 poor mans noveske infidel. Psa lower with a cmc two stage trigger, solgw 13.7 barrel, bcm upper and 15” handguard, bcm bolt, and magpul ubr gen 2 capped off with a kx-5 pin and weld. Does surprisingly well with flash and sends all the concussion down range while functioning as a sort of linear brake. Oddball choice, but I’m an oddball myself. Had one lung heart lung with a chunky exit wound at about 25 yd, dropped him on the spot. God bless, brother, you’re doing fantastic work
I couldn't agree more with how impressive that was. I was thinking the velocity numbers on the box was obtained from a '20' barrel but was surprised to see those kind of numbers from a '10.5' and '16'. I wouldn't hesitate for a minute using this for home defense or even medium game if I could find it 👌👍
I really want to try some Hornady Critical Defense, Speer Gold Dot or even this Winchester Ranger 223/556 self defense ammunition but they're so hard to find, stay sold out and if it does come back in stock, sells out immediately. I bought a bunch of the Nosler 64gr BSB bullets years ago when I could get them for about $20/100 as overruns. I haven’t gotten around to testing them yet so it was great to see your test turn out so well. They look like a tougher bullet toward the base than the excellent Gold Dots. Great video!
Soft points! Yesss...would have watched the latest T&T episode anyway, for sure. But glad to know a reputable manufacturer has such an offering! Thanks for putting that knowledge on MY radar 😅
Ive used this ammunition a little bit. Ive had issues with neck tension on these rounds, may have just been my lot number but still. Just letting the bolt go from lock and taking a round off of the top of the magazine pushed the bullet into the neck of the case. I thought it may be the nickel plated case that causes this but who knows.
Great Review! Although .223 Rem is more available for self defense like Speer Gold Dot, I will try to get this cartridge although 5.56 self defense cartridges like the one you tested is usually restricted to LEO'S.....
Rifle bullet technology has come a long way. I have been using mostly a .243 in the last few years for deer so I am biased in its favor and regarded it as the minimum caliber for deer hunting. However this test confirmed that some modern 5.56 ammo can do the job with less recoil and blast. This ammo might be useful for hunters who need low recoil to shoot accurately and safely, perhaps due to youth or shoulder injuries, age, etc. Thanks for another set of excellent tests.
I live in Idaho, and let me tell you, I've seen countless mule deer harvested with .223 and it performs well above its weight, the low recoil and ability to make a well placed shot really do make a huge difference, the youth hunters here really like it, that and the .243 are probably the most common first centerfire rifle we get our kids for hunting.
