  • Before I head down to Mexico, I decided to get out in the woods and build a small fire. Sawed up a sapling into small segments, and batoned with the Ka-Bar Becker BK-16. Hobo stoves are great because you can have a very safe, contained and efficient fire.

    I love my BK16! I stripped the coating and added a patina, as well as adding micarta scales and a 90 degree spine. I'll probably keep it in the stock sheath for a while until I get bold enough to try my hand at kydex sheath making! LoL

    I like that knife, it's simple and clean looking and it seems to perform pretty well. Id I buy one I would make new handle scales for it and get a leather sheath for it.

    Hilarious to watch you baton wood logs literally on top of thousands of sticks of the same size.

      they are of course. i heard military forces around the world consider wearing these because of the massive amount of stability they provide their users with...
      but this guy is ahead of his time again! by now the military is only thinking about this great piece of equipment and he is allready one step ahead by wearing flip-flops in on of his other videos. i am so amazed with this :-)

      I love Crocs (see my Why Crocs are Awesome video), but in the last 4 years since this was made, I've discovered I have flat feet, and can't walk any distance anymore without my custom orthotics and real shoes. This was probably a 2 km hike each way, and I would never be able to do that now without extreme pain.

    When striking the fire steel, try pulling the fire steel away from the striker. Instead of the other way around. It keeps the sparks "in place" and you wont disrupt your pile of tinder as easy.

    The sheath that comes with the bk16 was replaced with a kydexs sheath much better and a tighter fit

    From what I understand getting cut with something rusty isn't anything. It is if it has dirt on it.

    • @uzi1951
      @uzi1951 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      RealBushMonkey What about rusty nails and tetanus? Tetanus is actually caused by a germ, not by rust. This germ is in spore form and lives in the dirt. The technical name is clostridia tetani. Clostridia is a bad family of bugs; its relatives cause botulism and gas gangrene.

      all I know is that everytime ive been cut on metal,and its happned lots,they always ask about a tetnus shot. from what I understand,the number one cause of tetnus death was human waste getting into cuts of soldiers as they wallowed in their own filth dureing trentch warfare. maybe its an infection precaution, you know how much doctors like to pimp all the drugs they can.

      Oh I agree, I had one every time also. Although the last time I went to my Dr. for one, they didn't do them anymore. Then I went to a walk-in clinic and they didn't do them. Told me to go to my Town nurse. Didn't even know we had a town nurse neither did my brother-in-law and he is a selectman.
      And I really like my BK2. Bigger guys can handle the weight.

    I just cant get behind the BK2,i think for a bush knife its just to thick for the blade length.i can see it as an urban type survival blade where prying may be a requirement,just doesn't seem like a good bush blade.Id think that BK16 was a far better choice...but its no Bear Grylls ULTIMATE knife lol. making vids from Mexico?

      @Wildwestwrangler 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      RealBushMonkey you'd be surprised. I sanded the coating smooth and convexed the edge. It will cut better than expected. I have used it to carve pot hooks and spoons and feathersticks even. I also edc a bk16 as well
