Those hiccups!! The music as Kate was scurrying to find shelter! The purring! It’s the little details that make your videos so delightful. I thought of y’all today as we took a walk in the woods near our home- found the remains of a clay turpentine pot- a “Herty” pot- from the 1930’s- I got so excited. I can only imagine how excited each of you actually feel when you find your treasures! Thank you again for becoming the best part of my Sundays. Looking so forward to your collabs! ❤️
Helloooo! We think the "button" is the inset out of the end of a wax seal (cool!) - the "horn" is the tip of a deer antler and the chain is probably part of a chain purse. Love the bottle neck - we found a few this week. Interesting sugar cone mould! Lots of great finds despite the weather! xx
That would be very cool if it is a seal maybe I should try and use it and see. I love the colours in the bottle neck it would be great to find a whole one :) xx
Hi ladies and Oscar, that was a very enjoyable lark to watch and not a complete disaster, judging by the many interesting items in your finds tray! I loved that shot of you all sheltering from the storm, still managing some beautiful smiles for us, despite being soaked to the skin !! You guys are so hardcore at times! lol :) Big hugs for you all, Louie Xx
I’ve just got my permit & my son was quite upset he didn’t need one yet so I am also making him one like you will for Oscar 😊 I’ve found quite a few clay marbles like the one you did, I heard on another mudlarks video they may have been used for cleaning industrial machinery/equipment? Thank you for sharing another one of your mudlarks with us, they’re always a pleasure to watch.

Hello! Thank you for the mention! You were right about the sugar cone mould. I am sure your mystery find is half a cufflink, they did produce commemorative cufflinks for Royal weddings in the 17th and 18th centuries. I have seen some for Charles 2nd, try a google search! At 17.51 you do indeed have part of tin glazed saggar (used to fire the tin glazed items in) in the coarse yellow clay. During firing, it has been covered in some glaze which has run off the items it contained, a mixture of white and red glaze judging by the pink colour. It dates from the late 17th or 18th century. At 3.48 (and seen later with your cat!) is mocha, the pattern is known as earthworm, or cable, if you google it you will find whole examples. So some nice finds! Would you like to do a collaboration video sometime?
Yay I am glad we found some sagger (I will have to remember what it is called) I have tried to google the cuff link but can find nothing which is frustrating. We would love to do a collaboration with you! You can email us at KitandCaboodlers@outlook.com so we can arrange something if you like :)
Nice hunt. That piece of mother of pearl is absolutely GORGEOUS. It is officially a Kit and Caboodlers video when Sunny cat makes an appearance. Please, please, please, as much as I love your videos, do not get sick trying to make a video. Hipothermia is very dangerous. Every time I see mudlarkers picking up those tiny pins or other pieces of metal, I wonder if a short strip of the magnetic flexible stuff that we put on craft projects or refrigerator magnets would come in handy. And I love your cat! I had 2 male cats that drooled when they purred, but my female never does. Those single use rain ponchos would be handy also for days like that. You can get them very reasonably if you buy them in bulk. Thanks for the wonderful videos - They are relaxing to watch and it is awesome that it is a way to have good family time. Our family used to do long walks in rural areas and find fun things in the woods, and it made good memories for my sister and me.

Just to have say to have very old copper nails would be wonderful in itself , but to have a hand made cross from them makes my heart sings at the thought of it .
Enjoyed watching and amazing finds. The horn tip was an interesting find. That button is beautiful. Thanks for sharing, good luck, happy hunting and take care.

I think the clay balls may have once had something to do with an old method of paint mixing... I think there was once an old paint mixing factory down near Greenwich and a few of them turn up down there from time to time.
As always brilliant & Kate always wrap up expect the worse & if get to warm it's a pain carrying stuff but beats been cold a wet. I found a great Pack away rain jacket from a outdoor shop for the Thames . I picked one from the female range as it is a great purple. wasn't dear more info if wanted. The horn does look like antler as above say and is probably an off cut where they used the rest of the antler already. It may have been destined for a duffle coat toggle but was tossed from workshop by mistake. Copper alloy Mail was made for ceremonial garb but don't know if with that small links. The item after the flat metal looks like a piece of slag from furnace but if so would feel more glassy or ceramic metal than pure metal so I could be well off there. I love the Mocha that pattern is called Cable at least up here where some was made in Scotland. Love seeing the finds, love the desklarking that allows me to do, Keep up the posts and Don't be getting hypothermia lass.

Hello 👋 from the States! Yep, your right Miss Kate... that's George Washington on the quarter you found 👍. Sorry you guys got so wet. Good day to come home and have some warm soup after adventuring 😊. Hello to the ever curious Sonny 😺. Sorry about your "fist-to- cuffs" with the neighbors cat. 🤗😘 For any boo-boos you received 😒. I had considered cuff-links as it looks like it has two bumps on the back (so did consider button also) There has been the suggestion it is a seal as the bust looks carved out. Could it be a very worn Intaglio cuff-link? We will be more careful about revealing locations, problem is we like filming the scenery haha :)
Mudlarking With Kit & Caboodlers Hiya. The two bumps are probably from the loop. It’s cast, I’ll try and find you a parallel. Me and Nic have had some disgruntled Mudlarks annoyed at us for showing ‘their’ patch, so we try to be subtle from now on 👍🏻
@@Sifinds Thank you about the parallel I can not find anything. I know there is a sort of unwritten rule about the location of garnets but as we have not actually found any as yet it doesn't matter. We do technically know where they are though thanks to a kind fellow mudlarker haha! One day :)
hey, Texas! I agree, I would be on the foreshore every minute I could. Aren't these guys fun? Last time I was at Galveston, my childhood wonderland, there were no seashells at all, and I walked miles
That bit of sawn off horn could have been for a toggle for a coat but whoever sawed it off didn't get round to putting the holes through it? And yes the weird looking bit of metal is a splatted bullet.

cool finds!!!! the clay ball you found is either a clay marble or a ballast ( I dont know if that is spelt right ) from a very old ship! I found a massive one recently and I have no idea what it is! Poor sunny! that neighbourhood cat should get a good talking to! I hope sunny gets better soon! :) Does it cost money to get a permit and how long does it take? also does it expire?
It costs £85 for 3 years or maybe 2 can`t remember exactly and £30 for a day permit. I read on their website that they are having a higher than average influx of new mudlarkers so it is taking a lot longer at the moment to get a permit. Hope that helps :)
@@MudlarkingWithKitCaboodlers oh! thank you! I am thinking about going up to London soon to go to a festival called hyper Japan festival so I might buy the day permit! thank you for that!! :)
the horn could be a small trophy as it has been cut quite well, it could be from a goat :0) at 13.28 the round thing could be a splattered musket ball and hit something very hard, if you scratch it gently in one place and you see like a silvery colour then it's lead and most likely a musket ball :0) thank you for taking us on your adventure and through the rain too :0)
and it's not the end of it either as I think we have another week of this weather :0( we need some sunshine, please :0) have a lovely day and looking forward to the next one :0)
I always get here late 🙁 however, I enjoyed the video and of course the *Yellow Wellies*. Both pipes were nice, the metal thing was interesting. The horn was an odd lucky find, I love the bottle top and the blue and white pottery. Do you think that some of the pottery could have come from a ship wreck? When the weather is nasty please don't risk getting sick or sicker to make a larking video. Make one as an update or to say hi. I hope Mum is better soon. Take care all. Ann
I’m a bit late to the party but as I’m sure someone has already said, that chain is mail, Just a guess but looks very old and maybe from a helmet. Lol just a flight of fancy... when I saw it, Monty Python’s “Holy Grail” flash through my mind for some reason.😏✌️
Hmmm then I’ll go with chain mail purse.... 😳 I’m running out of ideas, but have to say in retrospect steel would be highly unlikely to last centuries in the water.🤔
So I'm new to this mudlarking thing that you do and I was wondering is mudlarking only for finding small objects or can you take larger items ? In one of your videos you came across an anchor that was sticking out of the mud , over half of it. Could you dig that up and take it with you ? Just curious , I don't know what the piramiters are for being a mudlarker ? I saw the you have to have a permit to mudlark certain areas , does it also limit the size of the objects that you find as well ?
It is actually quite complicated haha Our permits do not allow us to dig too deeply, we can scrape. However there is a permit level above us that can dig but you have to have recorded many finds. There is also the restrictions on some areas where you are not allowed to dig at all :)
Although I agree with Northern Mudlarks, your horn is part of a deer antler, however, it is not uncommon to remove the horns of cows of the older breeds, to stop them jabbing other stock and farmers. These days they are usually de-horned when they are young so you only usually see horns on rare breeds.
The American Quarter has the bust of George Washington, the quarter is also called a Two Bit as it was 2 bits of a Piece Eight that was a trade dollar, that was one ounce of silver.

hi, if you haven’t found out yet, your mystery object is a cuff link from queen anne period x
you're right Kate, it is Washington
the horn could be a small trophy as it has been cut quite well, it could be from a goat :0) at 13.28 the round thing could be a splattered musket ball and hit something very hard, if you scratch it gently in one place and you see like a silvery colour then it's lead and most likely a musket ball :0) thank you for taking us on your adventure and through the rain too :0)
The weather is just endlessly rubbish at the moment haha :)
and it's not the end of it either as I think we have another week of this weather :0( we need some sunshine, please :0) have a lovely day and looking forward to the next one :0)
@@robertmartyr2041 It definitely makes mudlarking just that bit harder!!
and fossil hunting too as I have only managed to do one fossil trip to beltinge and that's it :0) roll on summer time yippee :0)
The chain could be from a chain mail suit....the museum has one Si showed and it had all sizes of chain like that all over it!
Kate, are your earrings at the beginning little Tau crosses? Just intrigued to know.
They are little mushrooms :)
Ann
Thank you I am o.k just got the snuffles :)
i no the feeling being out in that rain , good job on you getting out there , fad vid
It just seems to be raining all the time at the moment!! :)
I’m a bit late to the party but as I’m sure someone has already said, that chain is mail, Just a guess but looks very old and maybe from a helmet. Lol just a flight of fancy... when I saw it, Monty Python’s “Holy Grail” flash through my mind for some reason.😏✌️
It is very finely made and put together in an unusual way :)
@@MudlarkingWithKitCaboodlers Thank you
Cutest hickup 😂😍
The cat desperately wants this to be an ASMR video 😂
Although I agree with Northern Mudlarks, your horn is part of a deer antler, however, it is not uncommon to remove the horns of cows of the older breeds, to stop them jabbing other stock and farmers. These days they are usually de-horned when they are young so you only usually see horns on rare breeds.
Yes I thought it could be for protection of other animals.it is quite perplexing as to what it is :)
BTW as for the quarter it's still used today. Just the year is changed from year to year. George Washington is on it.
You are tougher than I am to go picking in the COLD rain
Yes that is Washington.
Maybe Sunny should pick his favourite find
The tips of the horns are sawn off to make powder horns.
KATE!!!! Where is your stunning yellow raincoat????
She did not take it!! :)
Silly billy. Lol.
The American Quarter has the bust of George Washington, the quarter is also called a Two Bit as it was 2 bits of a Piece Eight that was a trade dollar, that was one ounce of silver.
Oh Yes, you have The One mighty excavation expert with you today....👏👏👏👏 Yeah...
It’s always fun to see Oscar with you. 😎😎😎
