I love this series. I hope there will be more.
Kofi's painting was the best👏
A real gift of a sitter- so exciting to paint! It’s a pity that those of us who follow this wonderful series already know the winner of the final as these are repeats but I love Portrait Artist of the Year and Landscape Artist of the year - such a treat for those of us who appreciate these kind of programmes. More please!!
In this case it's not so much about the excitement of who's winning, but of the journey there. There are so many talented artists in every episode, regardless of the outcome it is fascinating watching them create.
@@katalinelo8011 Indeed and to be honest, art is totally subjective and we would all have our favourites.
@katalinelo8011 , sad to say that these three pretentious "judges" rarely choose the most accomplished artist as the winner. They DESPISE classical realism. They wouldn't choose Rembrandt, Michaelangelo, or DaVinci as a semifinalist.
@@AFAskygoddess Art is subjective. I prefer some realism in art, especially in portraiture, but I do understand that they want to avoid choosing the same style over and over again to keep things fresh. Although there were quite a few seasons when I was flabbergasted as they chose obviously so wrong, definitely not the best painter. Look up the work of Tai, he doesn't do classical realism, but I think he is a good painter, except for his landscapes, those are embarrassing in my opinion. The concept of the panel of the judges is that we have one painter, one museum curator and one from a commercial viewpoint. So all aspects are represented. And you don't have to like them, or value their opinions at all.
If you study the body of work of Da Vinci, you'll see that he painted the same, over and over again, idealised women with the same facial expression (Raphael the same, they are very easy to spot on a museum wall from a great distance without the label even). He was great, no doubt, but he won't make it in this competition as he doesn't have 4 years to finish the picture. Rembrandt would have a chance, there was one season when someone painted like that (of course only made the shortlist, very humiliating for them as they were the best of the 9 at that time, technically and stylistically, also they absolutely finished the painting - at least the sitter chose that, some people have taste), Rubens also, they were capable of painting quickly in reasonable quality. Michelangelo was better as sculptor than painter, he also preferred sculpture to painting, so I don't think we could cite him here.
I sometimes wonder if more recent great artists would have a chance, like Van Gogh, Picasso, Renoir, Gaugin, Matisse, Chagall, as the judges often criticise the the artists in the show for the same things they love in the work of these guys.
This is one of my favorite shows and how I wish we had this in the states. Although sometimes I am frustrated by the judges’ choices, seeing the process of the different artists and learning a little how judges determine their choices, is enthralling. I wish all the artists success in their careers, and kudos for doing any portrait in just four hours. Amazing!
Tai would know all about “clumsy paintings”
All he has to do is look at his own😂
SO enjoyable to watch, I was so excited as it me who was a sitter! MORE PLEASE!
Love this show
amo muito esse programa..
Thank you! DA ! Finally, incredible work is absolutely incredible, Helen and John, and the rest DA!!
Who are Helen and John?
Thank you for posting! I'm just disappointed that I broke down and watched the semis and the finale (episodes 10 & 11) before this finally got posted so I already knew the results.
I loved all 3 but vote for Curtis
Interesting. That's it!
A fun sitter. Someone who has a twinkle in her eye.
❤
Ty😊
💖👍👏👏👏👏👏
Wow. Who would have the courage and nerve to portrait such a figure. Its like starting with Hemingway 😅😅
There were at least 3 semi finalists who were better than Curtis, other than the two who were selected. Why the judges selected him over the others I will never understand. I put him easily in the bottom 3.
where is the final? 😭
Jammer geen hele reeks meer alleen maar semifinal and final😢
I have seen the series on TH-cam.
how long the artist can finish their art piece ? please share it, thanks
Four (4) hours.
The judges try to be amusing but don’t always succeed.
I disagree with including the artist using the colored pencils.
These judges ,they only like weird ,it’s supposed to be portraiture but they pick ones without a good likeness .They should have different judges who judge real portraiture .
Non hai ancora compreso il significato artistico dei ritratti ! Un ritratto ti deve emozionare un ritratto deve cogliere un'espressione deve esserci un'armonia di colore e di dimensioni! Un ritratto non deve essere una fotografia!!!
This show would be SOOO much better if it wasn't so sicklingly woke. And secondly the judges are almost unbearable. Woke and look for things that aren't there. Get real judges.
Hilarious! Woke is so 2022! And it's not even applicable to this show. All you have to do is look at the winners from the previous seasons to see that.
