Lacey Sturm the singer of this song has kept continuing as solo artist with her husband as her guitarrist and 2 friends as bass and drum players, she has a full album called LIFE SCREAMS go check it out it's amazing, same with her newest singles "The Decree" and "State Of Me" from this year, she is about to release a new sophmore solo album.
Stephanie Payne Jesus loves u sis. Give Him a shot. If you come up empty handed (in which, u won't, considering God never denies any human being who honestly wants to know if He exists), then i will announce myself as stupid AND I'll give you a dollar. Lolol on a real note, He does love you. Infinitely, as He is the author of love. Ok that's all. Take care friend :o)
Sam Risien oh thank you that's really sweet, but unfortunately I have searched and tried to find God but I never have been able to. But I appreciate the sweet comment
Stephanie Payne I know what you mean, friend. Sometimes it felt like no one was there and I was just praying to nothingness. After a period of doubt, I became really flustered one day and wanted to know if God really even existed, and if He did, I wanted to know which God was the real God. Long story short, I now know, truthfully and logically that Yahweh, the True God is indeed real. Even when I don't feel it, the Truth remains that God is indeed real. That's what I love about Truth, it's completely independent of my feelings lolz. By saying what I am about to say, I am not discounting your efforts in trying to find Christ because I don't know what you've gone though and it would b insanely ignorant and hypocritical of me to do so. Keep looking. Search diligently for Him because as I said before, the Truth remains, regardless of anything. With that being said, (this goes for everyone who happens to read this) no matter how bad you are feeling, know you are cared for and know you are loved on a level that no mortal being cannot comprehend. Why should you know that? because it's true :) "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, so that whoever believes in Him will not perish but inherit eternal life." John 3:16 "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." - Jesus (John 14:6)
I was singing this in class and instead of singing "I'm scared to death of light and silence" I sang "I'm scared to death of light and science" The look on people's faces around me was priceless. Lol
1st time I heard this, I wept. Put it on repeat and learned it pretty quickly. I'm a bass, and harmonize with her so well. And I feel what she's singing about. Silence is deafening, and nothing can hide in the light.
Brandon Roberts The day Lacey Sturm planned to kill herself was the day her old life ended. As an atheist who hated Christians, she thought church was a place for hypocrites, fakers, and simpletons. After a screaming match with her grandmother, she ended up in the back of a sanctuary, hating everyone in the room. But what happened in that room is that a pastor heared god telling him that there was a suicidal soul in the room and that reason she is alive today.
Eye just found flyleaf, and this song. Eye have listened to it 5 times in a row now. The lyrics resonate with me in a personal way. when she says inspired, hiding, dieing in the dark eye attribute it to my personal relationship with emotional addiction to heavier emotions. Eye have become so familiar and comfortable with intense feelings of dread, anger, distrust, isolation that in my solitude that's where eye have been found. So much so that feeling a moment of peace or joy or unity actually scares me is followed by questions if it's authentic or if eye deserve it. It's been making me ave out in ways that have been hurtful to the people eye love, which eye relate to being afraid of the silence, like my actions have pushed everyone into a space where eye can no longer be engaged with. When she says, Jesus kill me inside this. Eye feel a deep desire to be released of these patterns and also work on having a connection with god. Eye think it's so beautiful and it's really touched me.
That's the exact point dear. To accept ourselves as imperfect. To recognize we all deserve death isn't to hate ourselves, it's to come to terms with the reality we will never be perfect and to stop striving for it. Instead, we strive to do the best we can and achieve more than we ever could alone through God. It's humility and confidence, not self-hatred and pride. I think it's really sad you get the two mixed up. The "beauty" is that we accept we are imperfect and then accept salvation despite.
I LOVE this song !! What a BEAUTIFUL and POWERFUL prayer of Rebirth. "I’m scared to death of light and silence Jesus kill me inside this Raise me up to live again Like you did, like you did" AND THEN The Glory of God shows up as asked... "Glory shows up Exposes us I’m naked here Forsaken here By the dark, By the dark Damn the dark LIGHT I’m scared to death of light and silence Jesus kill me inside this Raise me up to live again Like you did, like you did" AMEN !!!
When I was a little baby I didn't really know about Christians but I had a feeling that God was watching over me one day I went to church and I had an encounter with God he told me that my plans are about to change and I he loved me so if you don't believe in God then you should because he's our savior he's our father and he's our heavenly Christ
It would be nice to listen to Flyleaf without biblical debates. Usually those debating/arguing have no idea what they are talking about, which makes it even worse ! That goes for both sides of the argument !! Yes Flyleaf is a Christian Band does that mean we have to debate God .Even Black Sabbath has songs which Praise God,bet few people know that !! Anyway can we just enjoy the music !
kevin cunningham no their not debating. There just problems faced and questions asked. Their not stupid. Listen to some interviews with them. Learn about them before u make ur assumptions.
I love this song, it reminds me that I used to be afraid of the dark, evil people and spirits but now I am not. I truly believe in god, have a personal relationship and I am only afraid of making the wrong choices. My opinion is religion and the Bible have been changed over time by man and I pray that God guides me to do, believe and see what is true and I don't just follow and listen to what everyone tells me is true. I love Flyleaf and can relate to their music.
+G Montoya Give people time, all it takes for something to be warped and changed for better or worse is a label. Its human nature to label in attempt better understand a thing, where well as how they belong in this life. I've always felt there's no need for a "middle-man". Stay the course set by your words above, should you come to a cross road I hope you rise from the ordeal with strengthened resolve. Know that this is coming from a pagan whose sincerity is genuine.
+G Montoya your right except the bible has changed. cultures change for sure. just look at the mess we are in now. MOSTLY because the CHURCH has failed to teach scripture!. do i like everything i read?. no. of course not. i'm a fallen human. we have to take all of scripture IN CONTEXT. hey, everybody wants to go to heaven but no one wants to die, right?. having a relationship with Jesus(God in the Flesh) is fantastic for sure. hope you find a good bible believing church. if there is a Calvery Chapel nearby, check it out. they are solid!. God bless.
Who else, when listening to this, don't have their right headphone on to just hear the words in the intro? I did that the very first time I listened to this song because that's how I usually listen to music, and am so used to it for the intro of the song. Throws me off when I listen to it with both headphones. XD
In a nutshell, the bible tells many stories that show God's intense love for humanity, regardless of what wrong doings they did, and how He defended his people against their enemies. Then it shows how He sent Jesus because He loves us so much (John 3:16) that He doesn't want us to go to...you know. And because Jesus died, if we believe and accept that truth in our lives and follow His plan for us, we'll know where we go when we die. We'll be with him in a really nice, comfy place :)
@AmotoTaboshi Please, don't be sorry xD I laugh at it too! I was at my dad's and fell down like four or five steps and jacked up my knee xD I was like "Omfg fail!!!" and died laughing right there xD
Yeah her songs have a nice double meaning. As a Christian i kinda see the religious undertones in some of her songs more than the other ones, and in other songs i see the storytelling side more. It's interesting that some people know how to do that i guess.

I'm not really religious (when you're in a private school with Christianity shoved down your throat everyday against your will, you kind of don't like religion) but the brilliant thing about music is you don't have to be religious to like this style of music! :D You can interpret it to your liking. :3
People arguing below me over religion, let's not forget that before there was ever the thought of one God, there were many gods. The Mesopotamian people had the first civilization and the first "Bible" so to speak. They believed in more than one god. Their civilization was way before Roman thoughts, and they also had more than one god. Now both religions are called mythology. Have you ever thought someday in the future the Bible will be considered mythology due to another religion? Yeah, so sh.
Lol, I know this comment was from 9 years ago. But I really like figuring out song meanings, so here it goes! Lacey wrote this I believe about her own story. She was very depressed and suicidal, and she lived "in the dark" as it were. Actually she was going to kill herself but didn't because she had a miraculous spiritual encounter with God that very same day. When it says: "I used to be afraid of cluttered noises, now I'm afraid of silence" and "I'm scared to death of light and silence", to me I think it means that being afraid of darkness and loud noises is normal. But now she's actually afraid of light, because she's so used to the darkness, light is scary to her. And silence is scary, because you have to face yourself in the silence. There's no more distractions. So now she craves darkness and loud noises to hide and distract herself. But she is not happy with this place. She calls for Jesus to come and "kill me inside this. Raise me up to live again, like You did." Lacey actually was an atheist and then she became a Christian. So the song is asking for Jesus to come and give her new life. I think that's the overall message. 🎶
I'm like 10 years late discovering this band but it's fiiiiine
Well hey bro, it's never too late to find good music
Never too late except that the original singer is gone & the band remains today without a singer. Lol. Can still enjoy it though.
You should look up songs by Lacey Sturm (the vocalist). The Soldier is really good.

I'm an atheist but flyleaf is still my favorite band! Lacey's voice is beautiful and passionate and I love her!

The bridge section is SO pretty. (“Glory shows up, exposes us”)... her voice is honestly breath taking
this song is hauntingly beautiful.
This is a shout-out to people who are struggling with depression and went through abuse (physical, sexual), neglect and PTSD.
I stepped on my cat
in the dark...
in the dark...
in the dark...
Carmen Sandiego mood
Yep!
😉😅
This is the best Flyleaf song of all time in my opinion.
Yes forsure
Its odd I find this song to be about depression. It is very motivational to me.

The meaning of our lives and where we came from and the speculation about where we go when we die are trivial?
