Flyleaf is one of those rare bands that gives you the same feeling that you had when you heard it for the first time, every time you listen to it for years to come
You performed for us in 2009 in Afghanistan. You brought a sense of reality and, maybe oddly, comfort, to all of us who were tired, displaced, and needed some recognition that we were still human and that we were not forgotten. It was an amazing performance. Your voice was powerful, despite the "general's restrictions" against electric guitars. I will always remember - I cannot thank you enough.
I watched them in Kandahar 2009. It was tough to find some time flying DUSTOFF, as we were quite busy flying into hot LZ's in 2009 to fetch the wounded Soldiers and Marines. I remember the concert was pretty good.
Toby Keith came to our forgotten little airfield in Shindand out west in 2009. It was like a private concert. There was only a battalion of Army aviation, an ODA team, and an Italian company of infantry on Shindand, an old forgotten Russian field. Toby Keith rocked it with his acoustic guitarist.
This is a good song and after being 35 I still think so However there's something else that I want to address because usually people who listen to this are in the mode of thinking that any argument can be settled merely with emotion people have unknowingly adopted a worldview that says that "truth is relative rather than objective" or "if it feels good it must be right" this idea goes right under people's nose in plain sight however if this idea has taken to its full extent than this means that no one has any logical right or justification to complain about anyting.... for the person that thinks that truth is only relative I would only ask what keeps them from falling into nihilism (.. idea that nothing matters everything that everyone ever hope for a struggle for is ultimately meaningless life is meaningless)... because relativism lead you in two ways either nihilism or hedonism (Hedonism being the idea of living only for pleasure)... and we all know that can turn bad really quick then one will potentially find themselves justifying what find detestable... so for the person reading this, if this indeed applies to you or someone you know, then some food for thought...why would one be engaging in an idea such as the truth being relative or relativism when it potentially leads to so much harm, and based on an historical account of human nature, often does?... Ultimately the idea of Live and Let Live sounds good to our ears but does harm because it really devolve down to I'll let you get away with what you want to get away with if you let me get away with what I want to get away with.... and again with human nature being what it is, why even promote an idea like that.

@@philliesfan3414 You might want to watch those interviews again, because you're completely wrong. Flyleaf (at the time Passerby) was created to be a Christian band. Lacey left a smaller band she was in because she didn't want to be part of a secular band after her conversion.
2006 just released from the clink, homeless, wondering aimlessly listening to this album and 30 seconds to Mars. It was all I had. 2022- homeowner, married, mother... fully alive.

@@modernzoociety the timing was wacky yeah it took me the longest just to be able to play the riff on time, but also the strange shifts in octave during the chorus, but I got it eventually I think helped by the fact that I sing as well, so the singing part helped me gauge the weird timing with the bass notes better :))

In case anyone is wondering, this song is about a woman Lacey knew (Layla) that had a medical condition that kept her bedridden for months at a time, but even through the pain and confinement, she remained positive, loving to her husband, and happy to be alive.

This band hits me differently now. First time I heard this band I was about 24. Experimented with drugs and hated myself because of anxiety and manic depression. Listening to this band in 2022? I am ready to Smile and Love life. I am fully ready to accept Him in my life
That's awesome and did you accept our Savior Jesus Christ. And that he died for every one so that we all could have a way in too our heavily Father's kingdom through him and only him 🙏 !!!!

This is still a banger.... had the pleasure of working with Flyleaf a handful of times back in their prime and Lacy is a LOT shorter than she looks... the band was amazing and really acted "fully alive" during the set
My brother used to hate that I listened to christian music. So for Christmas he gave me a Flyleaf CD and said, "here's some real music." He didn't know they were christian...haha. Jokes on him.
I loved Flyleaf despite them being christian. It's just great music that doesn't shove christianity in your face so you can ignore that aspect or even think of it in terms of your own beliefs. Also, Lacey has an incredible voice.
@@simonetrance Right. I was so surprised to find after years of listening that they're considered a christian band. I still don't see it, but hey. What can I do?

For anyone wondering, Layla is a friend of Lacey. Lacey apparently toured with Layla and her husband early in her career before Flyleaf made it big. Layla has Palindromic Rheumatism which causes her joints to fill with fluid and is extremely painful. I assume this can cause weak bones as well which could explain the second line of this song. It's amazing that Lacey made a song for her friend like this and even more amazing that it was one of her most popular songs.
This is the kind of music most churches need it keeps young teens, young adults and children intrested and in turn makes them want to learn more about God. @@UnknownMercy6 you're mistaken.. referring to someone as "biased" simply means that they go one way or the other on a given issue. It isn't unnecessary to put a good or a bad connotation on it the word, "biased" is simply meant to be taken at face value. In addition I know you didn't bring this up but telling somebody that they are biased doesn't really defeat their argument one would have to still provide contrary evidence. ... however I am a little confused on something.... I have no idea whether "bias" is the word being used here or "based"... but on the occasion that it is "based"... I guess it might be a generational thing to which I'm ignorant. Finding out this singer was a Christian downright shocked me at 16 when I was a depressed atheist dealing with drugs and everything that comes along with that. Now a Christian at 25 looking back on some of these songs is just awesome. Rock on.
I'm still agnostic at 26 but still love this music nonetheless. P.O.D is another Christian band whose lyrics and musical style just speaks to me even after all these years
I was a 15 years old girl with depression and an old boyfriend introduced me to this group. This music helped me a lot when I felt bad or tired of being here. Sometimes words are better than anything else. 11 years after and I still listen Flyleaf when I feel bad and depressed.
I’m so happy to hear people tell how they were depressed and music has. Brought them comfort.. I’m sure Lacey would be proud to know her voice has helped so many!!

With how prevalent autotune is in music now it's actually really nice to hear a voice that can sing, a strong one at that. Lacey's voice going from strong and gritty to soft and sweet is wicked good for the ears
I’d bet all my money that some sort of vocal correction was used in the studio for this album. Stuff like autotune and melodyne have been standard for producers for a long time now. It’s not always noticeable, but it’s generally always there. Howard Benson, the producer for the album, admits to overusing autotune in the studio, particularly when he received his first copy.

@@enoch3874 moral relativism is a funny thing that people argue over because I think a lot of the disagreement boils down to semantics but at the end of the day, if we make both people write a short list of what is wrong and right, they'll probably have very similar answers. Ultimately I think this is because relavitism vs absolutism is not as big a deal as people are make it out to be. You describe a number of "slippery slopes" for relativist thought, but someone could easily do the same is absolutism. Muslim extremists have a fully absolutist view of morality, they would literally rather murder people than consider the views of others. Why I think the argument is more semantic than people give it credit for: among religious communities, not all members are equally moral. Some are satisfied by being passingly told what is right by their pastor, and just going along with it. But the moral beacons of most communities, religious or otherwise, are those who take the time to truly think and consider the nature of morality and most of all on the impacts it has on those around them. We may believe that there is some objective moral good but the path there can never be simple. There can be a moral nihilist who has taken the time to consider the absurd chaos of the world and come to the conclusion that it is their duty to provide the scaffolding of morality for more goodness in the world to built on top of. That idea is in fact the core point of many of nietzshe's writings. Of course you can have a horrible person who never made it two seconds past the idea of "there is no inherent meaning in anything" and just uses it as an excuse to do whatever they want. The problem here is LAZY morality rather nihilism. It's the same issue with people who snooze through church every sunday and can barely make a moral choice with a step by step breakdwon. The idea I would challenge you to accept is that moral relativism and absolutism are actually not mutually exclusive. You can believe that there is an absolute good that we should aspire to while also recognizing the reality that the world we live in is insanely complex and we MUST consider and measure the the moral ideas of others in order for us to have a chance at navigating the tide.

Before I knew Flyleaf was "Christian inspired" I was a fan of their music. Was at church one day and they were playing a video about this young woman who was on her way to commit suicide. She happened to walk past a church and figured "Why not?" As she was leaving a woman stopped her and said something to effect "God spoke to me and said I was to save you from what you are about to do" Anyway, the whole time this story is being told, this track is playing in the background. Kind of cool for my church I thought. In the end when they start to disclose it was actually her and this was her story, I was damn near in tears! Whether you believe in a God or not, you have to feel in your soul there is a high power at work here. I get chills now hearing her music.

Ariel but as I remember, Flyleaf always denied that they were Cristian band. They didn't see themselves as Criatian band. Don't know how much it is true but I think this may be not the reason.
Whoa. Someone else spoke about the song's meaning and the fact that it was about someone named Layla, they didn't specify anything about her being Trustcompany's singer's wife. That's a throwback name, one of the few lesser known bands of the time whose CD I actually owned.
Ultimately the idea of Live and Let Live sounds good to our ears but does harm because it really devolve down to I'll let you get away with what you want to get away with if you let me get away with what I want to get away with.... and again with human nature being what it is, why even promote an idea like that..
Been a fan since they first came out. Christian band or not, a good band is a good band. Her voice is very moving yet soothing at the same time. Used to listen to their "Remember to Live" Album to help me sleep. and the stories on their second album; "Momento Mori" are wicked. They're almost hypnotic in my opinion.

I remember hearing them for the first time, finding out what type of band they were and what her songs were about and her voice made me fall in love and the lyrics hit me in all her songs and the meanings we're all too close to home because of what I dealt with. Lost touch with my inner pink kid that still is residing inside of me. This makes me feel all feelings I did back then. FREE!!!
Wow I’ve always loved flyleaf since I first heard em come out a lacey❤️but wow this was posted in 2009 5 years on my moms bday.god rest her beautiful soul 4th oct 2014. She definitely always was fully alive.
I remember hearing this song on Fuse back in 2005 or 2006 when I was in 3rd grade. I was so mesmerized by her voice and how pleasing the song was sonically. Especially the part right before the end (Fully alive, fully alive) and the light shining at the end, it just gives me a good feeling that's hard to describe. I'm 26 now and this song still hits hard

You are so right.

As someone who is newly a fan.
This is correct.
Where were you at? I was in country same year and we got lucky that Toby Keith and his folks were willing to come out to Salerno.

Ultimately the idea of Live and Let Live sounds good to our ears but does harm because it really devolve down to I'll let you get away with what you want to get away with if you let me get away with what I want to get away with.... and again with human nature being what it is, why even promote an idea like that.

Who?
Flyleaf, you helped me feel things that I couldn’t admit out loud in an extremely oppressive home. I am now physically free, but the mental freedom is coming slowly. Listening to this some reminds me of how far I’ve gotten, and how much hope there is for the future ❤️❤️🔥🕊
Stay strong and keep pushing🙌🙏
I pray you overcome and break free. There is hope. There is joy there is peace. I truly believe there is a power to overcome the darkness in this world.
i am not christian or religious whatsoever but i def appreciate musical talent and this band is amazing one of my favs
Had the pleasure to see Lacy live on more then one occasion. Absolutely amazing!
Though I have never heard Flyleaf before I get this strange feeling like I have always known and loved them. This is amazing. The guitars is just how I like. The rhythm, the voice...Like a great combination between Thousand Foot Krutch and Breaking Benjamin combined into a lovely nostalgic sense I have never felt. Feels like a home I never had. Thank you :')
Her voice has always baffled me, it's so unique.
Still one of the Best Gospel bands ever. 2022

my dad showed me Flyleaf when i was like 11. im still in love to this day. it's crazy to think im in my 20s now, still relying on the same music as back then haha 😭
That's a sign of getting old 🥳
When we're young, hearing new music causes a release of dopamine in our brains. As we get older, many of us lose that ability and instead get that dopamine reaction from hearing music we're familiar with

I've been listening to your music for 15 years now and it's still as beautiful and as heart touching as the day I started listening to you
Amazing song! Great intro. When I'm on my headphones listening to it my head follows the intro music playing from my headphones for some reason. Anyway, love this song. Miss you Lacey!

Ahh this taste like nostalgia. Mhp. Mhp. A splash of Middle school and a touch of anxiety🤔An after taste of “fully alive”😊hearing this song.
I love Flyleaf! Lacey taught me how to not be afraid to scream on stage. Her yell is truly unmatched.
Cannot get enough of Flyleaf today. I played Sick & All around me like 10× lol
one of my favorite songs! ive been flyleaf's biggest fan forever :)
Makes me sad at 2:16, most people won’t get to feel that feeling. Whole band on the same page, head banging to music that feels amazing to play, all simultaneously. It feels so good to be a musician b
Lacey Sturm- vocals
Sameer Bhattacharya- lead guitar
Jared Hartmann- rhythm guitar
Pat Seals- bass
James Culpepper- drums
Before I knew Flyleaf was "Christian inspired" I was a fan of their music.
Was at church one day and they were playing a video about this young woman who was on her way to commit suicide. She happened to walk past a church and figured "Why not?"
As she was leaving a woman stopped her and said something to effect "God spoke to me and said I was to save you from what you are about to do"
Anyway, the whole time this story is being told, this track is playing in the background. Kind of cool for my church I thought.
In the end when they start to disclose it was actually her and this was her story, I was damn near in tears!
Whether you believe in a God or not, you have to feel in your soul there is a high power at work here. I get chills now hearing her music.
There are no coincidences; all of us have a purpose and all that happens does so for a reason
I'll never forget watching this for the first time on MTV at like 7am. Litterally listened to the same CD everyday for years 🤣🤣
She is BEAUTIFUL. God bless Her!!
She's so underrated that voice sounds angelic and demonic at the same time amazing job
Her voice is soooo damn perfect for a rock band. Literally could not be more awesome.
Had the privilege of seeing them live and I'm so thankful for that! That memory will be forever with me. She is wow!
Telling Layla's story spoken
'Bout how all her bones are broken
Hammers fall on all the pieces
Two months in the cover creases
Fully alive
More than most
Ready to smile and love life
Fully alive
Now she knows
How to believe in futures
All my complaints shrink to nothing
I'm ashamed of all my somethings
She's glad for one day of comfort
Only because she has suffered
Fully alive
More than most
Ready to smile and love life
Fully alive
Now she knows
How to believe in futures
Fully alive
More than most
Ready to smile and love life
Fully alive
Now she knows
How to believe in futures
Fully alive
More than most
Ready to smile and love life
Fully alive
Now she knows

Yessssssssss!!!
Welcome back Lacey to Flyleaf! So glad she’s back with the band! 🤘
It's insane how much more creativity and effort are put into older music videos like this masterpiece and how childish and boring newer music vids are, ones like this express meaning to its song rather than jumping around tryna find stuff to do to get fans, people like in flyleaf though I feel wouldn't have to try as hard because they are just naturally inspiring and amazing
I feel you.
They think we are dumb and some are just easily enterained.

Gorgeous
How did I just discover Flyleaf in 2021? I would have loved this if I would have known about it 11 years ago.
I remember hearing this song for the first time like what 11-12 years ago and thinking to myself what an Awesome song and every time I've listened to in the past two to three years I still think the exact same thing! Such a powerful song and the pipes on the leading singer is incredible; not to mention she is such an incredible performer! Unfortunately never got to see Flyleaf Live before they disbanded.
I am not sure why everyone seems to focus on Flyleaf being Christian. This band rocks. Does it really matter what religion anyone practices? I am atheist and I love Flyleaf because it rocks. Just be happy and grateful for them.
I’m also an atheist who loves this band. ❤️
People don’t focus on the fact that Eminem is Christian though. Are Christians really that unaware? Most bands and artists are Christian. It’s silly.
It matters because everything that she’s singing about is contingent on the happiness and freedom in the life of a Christian. You can still love them not being a Christian, But her music is praise
@@asiavincelli7973 and hey, that’s cool. I’m really happy for you (seriously, no sarcasm intended) that you feel that was about their music.
But also, I get a lot of those same feeling from same music, being an atheist. It’s really great that we can both enjoy this music.
@@chadd990 I agree. Music is an amazing thing. :)
something unique about her diction at 0:34 the C's she pronounces with the "Two months in the cover creases" it shouldnt sound good but it does.
❤❤❤
I cant keep myself from being sorry after watching music videos of this damned talented band cuz there's no such taste in music in today's bands like Flyleaf. Missing them so bad.
I kinda feel you, but in reality you just aren't looking in the right places if you truly believe that. Don't rely on tv and radio for your music 'cause ya, that's shit now, but good music is out there and not that hard to find.
Lucas Howard With all my heart, I agree but.. No exact words to describe, you just become sorry and want to question why there are less lefts to make me feel excited such as Flyleaf even if there exists such bands.
Probably because people have taken God away from their music...
Ariel but as I remember, Flyleaf always denied that they were Cristian band. They didn't see themselves as Criatian band. Don't know how much it is true but I think this may be not the reason.
The singers completely a christian singer I met her at Rock The Lakes...
I forgot how powerful their lyrics are. Also, I will always say this,, I freaking love the way she moves! the freedom in her dancing, so goood
Worth mentioning, this song was inspired by the struggles of Layla Palmer, the wife of the frontman of Trust Company Kevin Palmer.
Whoa. Someone else spoke about the song's meaning and the fact that it was about someone named Layla, they didn't specify anything about her being Trustcompany's singer's wife. That's a throwback name, one of the few lesser known bands of the time whose CD I actually owned.
She's so beautiful and her voice is amazing. Female artists don't get enough credit.

FREE!!!

I love how absolutely transcendent she is with her lyrics. Just her voice alone can capture such a vast audience.
