Oh, my gosh, Ali! How blessed you are to get such wonderful fruit/veggie boxes - and at such an incredible price! If only.... I love watching what you do with your produce. You never waste anything which I so appreciate. Plus, you always give me great ideas on how to use some of my own produce. Thanks for another wonderful video. I so look forward to them each and every time.
Hi Ali, you did well! I've seen that citrus tip before and it is very useful indeed. I've never used the dark green parts of leeks for cooking - I usually just stick them in my bag of stock bones in the freezer. But I'll try them in soup next time I have some.
I really want to get another one of those boxes too. I want to try grapefruit in salad because I like the smell but it’s too sour for me to eat as a fruit. Thank you for all the tips and ideas ❤
What an excellent box!!! 👍👍👍 Thanks for showing us how you used it all - you are a real inspiration! I’ve always been fairly good at trying to avoid waste, but your tips and ideas are definitely helping me to ‘up my game’ !! Thankyou!!… and thanks to Luna too for her helpful comments!!! 😂 xx
Morning Ali - tip I have is that almond essence in with cooked cherries is delicious! Also I don't juice my citrus fruit: limes get cut into 1/4s and lemons in slices ( so you can tell the difference easily!). Well done for having plans to use it all up - brilliant! Luna - off oof!
Ali since i have been following you my pathetic freezer is rammed so i rejected all the lovely Lidl boxes today! I get so excited about my frozen stuff i can't bring myself to eat it 😊
Hi Ali I love your tips and seeing how you used all the items in the box. One tip I have seen is when you flat pack carrots, mince ect you can score the plastic bags they are in before putting them in the freezer. It makes it a lot easier to break off the amount you want
That was a great Lidl box, they're never very good in my Lidl. Great to see how you prep everything to use it up too, thank you 😊. Have a lovely weekend x
Hello again Ali ☺. Cherries are out of season so goodness knows how many air miles brought them to us! Also because you got such a bargain the wintering birds would have loved to share them with you, they don't mind the bitterness .. I'm trying to have the juice of an orange to help with Vit C intake. Recovering from a broken shoulder so I've sent for a teeny tiny electric juicer to help with the squeezing 🤣. Our Lidl are now charging £1.99 for their boxes ☹. Sending love & light to you and Luna 🐶. Take care and stay warm as
I love cherries since i was a child at 50 that was a long time ago prefer them to strawberries i love them fresh pureed and i love cherry jam .i am like you if i can eat fresh i will but if its just not the best quality aka yellow sticker i get creative too my daughters say if they stood still long enough i would probably freeze them too lol. Then again i have not needed to do a grocery shop since mid december and i think i am good for another 2 weeks so all worth it in my eyes . Px
Great box! That amount of fruit and veggies would have been over $15 in US. And unfortunately, even at full price, I’ve brought home tasteless, dry, soft and even moldy items. You did a great job utilizing everything!
Such great value and love how you even used the dark bits of the leek! I wonder if I could suggest a topic for a future video please? I find the one area that I struggle with is my preference for branded cleaning and laundry products. Would it be possible to see what you use and have your comments how effective they are please? I noted what you said about the Lidl washing up liquid recently and it set me thinking. Many thanks!
Meant to say that my late aunt taught me the citrus hack when i was a wee girl and i have past it on to my daughters. So many of the little tips and tricks are slowly being lost with the younger generations often things i do my girls do to the amazement of their friends . I think we 50 plus ladies need to minefully educate todays young people asap so all is not lost forever px
We’ve just had a risotto made with leeks, it was delicious. I freeze puréed fruit and freeze it in silicone moulds like ice cubes, about 60ml, which we then have with porridge. It also works well for tomatoes I’ve roasted so that you can just get the amount that you need out of the freezer.
1.50 Pounds would be just under $3 Canadian. The other day a single long aka English cucumber was $2.79 here. I realize this produce is a bit past its best but still amazing value and with a bit of work you are well set up. Ms Luna is so lovely. Have a great weekend Ali.
That was a great box Ali you have turned it into plenty of useful portions for the freezer etc. thank you for the inspiration and Luna you are a beautiful girl 😘🐶
That was very useful. It's so easy to end up with small amounts of fruit and veg after you've used them for whatever they were bought for, and then they go off because you haven't been pro-active in using them up. The bits and pieces you have prepared here are so flexible they can be used up in whatever way suits the moment. I am perennially trying to get more veg into my daughter (who hates the texture of fruit and veg) and I realising that freezing grated carrot is probably a great way forward for us as it can be 'sneaked' into all sorts of dishes much more easily than finely chopped fresh carrots. Just have to create a flat space in the freezer drawer to put it in.
My oldest daughter eats very little fruits and vegetables because of textures but I don't try to sneak anything in. I look for other options she will not eat whole or stewed tomatoes but she will drink tomato juice. Juices that have vitamins in them
I assume the cherries were imported because we certainly don’t get them this time of year here in France and we’re just across the channel. As for melon there is a great recipe for melon and raspberry jam on the Le Parfait website Btw those £1.50 Lidl boxes look amazing
That box is amazing value, I have just paid AUS $3 for 3 apples, the supermarkets here are really very greedy , we actually grow so much produce here in WA it should never be the prices they charge us.
Wow such incredible value compared to Queensland Australia! Of course we are in summer as you’re in Winter but it would be years since I’d have been able to get a box for that price! The leek and a couple of apples would cost more!
The same thing happens with our veggie boxes at our Lidl...we get a group of women who stand in a semi circle around the veg boxes so that no one else can get near and they go through each box and swap out what they do and do not want...we end up with several boxes that just contain damaged goods and a few spuds...not worth trying anymore...
@@jillchew-tetlaw3388 Yes, but nothing is ever done about it so they get away with it and realistically...why should the staff have to police it and deal with any problems...so they turn a blind eye...
Hi Ali I bought some raspberries the other day and same as your cherries, no taste. I think this is probably because we are not in the Cherry/raspberry season, as I’ve heard many nutritionists and frugal foodie experts saying that’s why we should eat seasonally - cheaper too. I’m not an expert but that’s the conclusion I came to with my raspberry’s 😃. Big kiss to Luna xxx
Brilliant Ali as always ... ❤ how do i aquire a lidl box do you have to book it ? or go on certain days ? I shop there quite regular but have never seen them before ? Hope you and Luna have a lovely weekend ❤❤
It's just on a first come first served basis. You need to find out when (or if) your local store puts them out as it can vary. There are no regular days, it's very random but I know my store puts them out along the window shelf beyond the checkouts just after 9am if they've got excess stock. Hope that helps :-)
The bag in this video is actually an M&S medium one (they were a gift) but I also have the large Tesco ones too. I wash and reuse them a lot, mainly until the seal doesn't seal or there's a rip!! Ideally I'd like the reusable silicon ones but the ones I have are teeny and the bigger ones are expensive
@@aliliveswellonless I agree Ali, the silicone ones are expensive. I tend to freeze in boxes but it does take up space and I like your idea of being able to break parts off, much easier.
Again 1,50 is an unbelievable bargain. 3.99 here wich would be still a good price. Two years ago i was lucky to get a box from Aldi, but today its nearly impossible to get a box they are sold out seconds after put online in their online shops. What I do is considering an additional freezer. I habe a large fridge/freezer with three large compartments but they are not enough if i cooke and freeze different veggies and meals. Even as a single person you need that additional space.

Love the Luna appearance..

I appreciate seeing how you creatively use those amazing boxes!

Wow, well done Stirling Lidl, that's a fabulous fruit and veg box. Puts my local Lidl to shame. You're very lucky Ali!
It can be hit or miss but they're mostly good 🙂
