Hope you enjoy it! It's a good intro to the subject and has some nice background. I did forget to mention that I would have liked to have a seen a 'further reading' list, if not a full bibliography in there as well
@@StormofSteelWargaming When I briefly browsed through it, I noticed one thing missing that would've been awesome for me: barbed wire and other obstacles. Cause as you might know I already started doing my table but one thing that I haven't decided yet is how to go about obstacles. To get some inspiration from this book would've been really helpful.
A timely review Alex: I was planning to start on my trenches for Square Bashing / WW1 Chain of Command shortly. I've just ordered the book from Amazon (where it is surprisingly cheaper) based on your overview despite the on-going promise to myself of no more books! 😉
Many thanks for this Alex. Interesting review. i make trench systems out of air drying clay which I think works pretty well. These have been for 28mm BAM figures etc. I'm about to embark on a trench system for Peter Pig's FWW Square Bashing rules, particularly PP's gamette 4 which is a trench raid. The gamette is played on a 12'" square board. This will lend its self very easily to a modular system and a larger game.
Very good review, thanks. Im planning using 6mm with 30mm square bases using Great War Spearhead 2 rules, and the level of detail in the book seems more than is needed for my scale. Do you think the book still useful for 6mm figures? It’s on sale for $16.85 on Amazon.
Thank you for doing this review Alex. I was really looking forward to this. I know I nagged you to do review this so I could decide whether or not to pick it up. Definite buy now.
Nice. My book also arrived a couple of days ago. Just browsed so far. Nice to see a review done by you!

There is mention of them, but it is quite fleeting.
As far as Im concerned its a "must-buy" for WWI gaming.
Nice review, I always enjoy reviews on books!
Cheers Sean, glad you liked the review!
I will add this to the list, so i remember to pick it up at my next Pen&Sword order :)
If you check the link in the description you can get it from Amazon a bit cheaper: top tip...
Thanks Alex - review nicely done! I have always admired your trench sections for Square bashing already. This looks interesting.
Cheers Chris, this is a nice book and a good intro to an interesting subject.

You're welcome, if you're about to start scratch building, then this book should give you some good ideas at least!
Nice review. Thank you.
Cheers Thomas! Glad you liked it!

You're welcome, yes, I think there's enough information in there to make it of interest even at smaller scales.

No problem Andrew, don't worry, I don't see it as nagging! I hope you enjoy the book.
Hadn’t got my glasses on when I first saw this I thought it was Douglas Haig 😂😂
😂😂😂
What games could be played with trenches?
First World War wargames.
