This interview shows how intelligent, well spoken, patient and humble Prince was. I was extremely surprised at how much knowledge he had about ethical, spiritual and religious issues. This is definitely one of the best interviews of Prince.

As a white suburban male who didn't even grow up in the 80's; Prince's death has had the biggest effect on me. I can't even explain this, but between the time of his death I have gone from a Purple rain liker, to a full blown Prince addict. I've also wanted to get rid of my smartphone and waste less time on the internet, his words and example inspired me to actually do something. I've been mostly cell phone free for 5 months and god it is so liberating!

He meant, "Why do what the business WANTS me to do?" Prince would have agreed with that statement. Prince, like Zappa, was what I think of as a "musical shapeshifter". Prince (The Artist) at the time really does look irritated and a bit annoyed being there. Like he doesn't want to be there period? While the press in Spain is tormenting him with asking pointless questions. That he doesn't want to hear nor answer. Other than that? Prince made some great albums since 1999 and Purple Rain. My main favorites are Around The World In A Day, Parade, Sign O' The Times, Lovesexy, Diamonds And Pearls, The Love Symbol, The Beautiful Experience, Emancipation and New Power Soul. Prince is the type of man. Who doesn't really like doing interviews. Even he when first started out in the late 70's. He would often let his former band members speak for him at the time. When he was with The Revolution in the 80's. As the years went by? He independently got more comfortable doing interviews with more compatible interviewers. He feel most comfortable with doing the interview.
This is the reason he was murdered. He wanted to change for the better and Hollywood wouldn't tolerate it. its a shame. Rest in peace angel, you made the right decision!

PRINCE is trying to be so respectful and patient with the translator. They should of had the translator in a separate room as NOT to distract from what PRINCE is trying to say. You can tell he was frustrated and getting tired of the interruptions of the translator. PRINCE was, is, and always will be the greatest artis of all time. I don't think it was as big a deal as you make it out to be. I have a copy of the concert he did in Marbella. He actually had Mayte translate for him but he told them they had bought a house in their town and "if you respect our privacy, we plan to be here a very long time. I want you to take care of my wife and I will take care of you."

I could never, and to this day, can't understand why he never received more recognition for the quantity, and quality, of his music. He never stopped making and the number of # 1 hits puts him at the top of the list of " most successful artists"! Vanity passed away Feb 15 and he acknowledged her that very evening at a concert in Australia. I saw a post by Sheila E, here on TH-cam, that they are engaged- as of "last year". I wish Prince all the best but feel he is a "very sensitive person", he and Sheila E " go way back", and feel that " marriage" may complicate things.

I'm a huge prince fan... but 1996-2003 was just a sad time. He was almost completely off the radar. Barely selling albums, failed websites, loss of a child, divorce... just a multitude of things that made it a depressing time. I saw him in concert in 2001, and was shocked at the venue he chose. It was a small auditorium that needed much work. Prior to 1995, he wouldn't have been caught dead in dump like that. Thank god he made a comeback. Just too bad it's at a time when cd sells are in the toilet for everyone. Would love to see him with one more platinum album
In 1996 - Prince released "Emancipation"; the 3 cd set sold 2 million copies! Prince went totally INDIE from 1996 to 1999, he won a Webbie for his NPG Music Club. Non of his websites failed... he shut them down (his choice). Prince was an innovator during this period, releasing albums via his website. He didn't care about record "sells" during that time. He has already sold millions of records and played to sold out arenas/stadiums. Prince was taking control of his own career, which alot of ppl would have said was the wrong thing to do and that he wasn't relevant anymore, but he did things on his own terms. He released some really good music via NPG Music Club and a stellar album "Rainbow Children". As for the venues he chose to play, they were smaller because he played alot of the newer material and rarely played the hits. So it wasn't like he couldn't sell out a venue... he wanted to cater to the core fan base, not the casual Prince fans!
Torre Sanz I agree to a certain extent. Emancipation sold 2 million "cds", not 2 million copies, due to the fact it was a 3 cd set. If it were a 1 cd album, it would have sold just over 600,000. His choice of venues was because he couldn't sell out like he used to. This was proven during the Gold era, when he had to drop stage props, and stage hands because the attendance was getting smaller and smaller. I respect prince! He basically took a chance on career suicide for a cause he felt was right. And here we are in 2014, and he has won the war. Props to Him!
If you are speaking of the Onenight alone tour the venues were all small as he was only showcasing one CD and those shows had tickets going for $200.00 a piece.
It is so embarrassing all the bad questions, how they formulate them, the translations, I am Spaniard and feel ashamed .... Not a single one in that room gets it... One thing I noticed about Prince is that his eyes tell the story. The pain in this man's eyes when the camera zooms in...I recognize that look and felt those feelings.
But I LOVED Mayte's part from 22:26-22:35 when she said, "Bueno, el calor? en Minneapolis? I'd say mucho frío." --> (English Translation: Well, the heat? In Minneapolis? I think in this interview, he was already leaving her for Manuela. If I recall properly from Mayte's book. That is why she didn't sit right next to him until he told her to scoot closer. I think she was noticing he was distant from her.
Kelley Germroth so did I. I pre-ordered it when it came out. But now I hear she narrated the audio. Now I want to listen to the audio. Was it just me? Or were there times she described things in the book that happened and I would have reacted pissed but then she would move on to another subject. So sometimes I didn’t know if she was affected by what happened. I’m thinking maybe she was so young at the time it happened that she sort of let the incident go. Kind of like what us women do when we are young and naive and in love. Anyway, I have to go listen to her audio So I’m hoping when listening to the audio it might clarify more how she felt about certain incidents

This was a great press conference!! He could not have said it better when speaking about journalists. Prince spiritual growth is what really separated him from Mayte. She said in her book she wasn't into it so that pretty much sums up the energy. You can hear and see he was on a search for the truth and they were just on two different paths.

Prince continued to tell many ppl he allowed in his world for yrs after mayte..He showed videos of NPG w mayte dancing telling little antidotes on dif things always with a smile or a laugh at their attics.. But Prince always stated Mayte was not only kind on the outside Mayte was also kind on the inside.. As a white suburban male who didn't even grow up in the 80's; Prince's death has had the biggest effect on me. I can't even explain this, but between the time of his death I have gone from a Purple rain liker, to a full blown Prince addict. I've also wanted to get rid of my smartphone and waste less time on the internet, his words and example inspired me to actually do something. I've been mostly cell phone free for 5 months and god it is so liberating!

While the press in Spain is tormenting him with asking pointless questions. That he doesn't want to hear nor answer. Other than that? Prince made some great albums since 1999 and Purple Rain. My main favorites are Around The World In A Day, Parade, Sign O' The Times, Lovesexy, Diamonds And Pearls, The Love Symbol, The Beautiful Experience, Emancipation and New Power Soul. Prince is the type of man. Who doesn't really like doing interviews. Even he when first started out in the late 70's. He would often let his former band members speak for him at the time. When he was with The Revolution in the 80's. As the years went by? He independently got more comfortable doing interviews with more compatible interviewers. He feel most comfortable with doing the interview.

I don't think it was as big a deal as you make it out to be. I have a copy of the concert he did in Marbella. He actually had Mayte translate for him but he told them they had bought a house in their town and "if you respect our privacy, we plan to be here a very long time. I want you to take care of my wife and I will take care of you."

I'm a huge prince fan... but 1996-2003 was just a sad time. He was almost completely off the radar. Barely selling albums, failed websites, loss of a child, divorce... just a multitude of things that made it a depressing time. I saw him in concert in 2001, and was shocked at the venue he chose. It was a small auditorium that needed much work. Prior to 1995, he wouldn't have been caught dead in dump like that.
Thank god he made a comeback. Just too bad it's at a time when cd sells are in the toilet for everyone. Would love to see him with one more platinum album

In 1996 - Prince released "Emancipation"; the 3 cd set sold 2 million copies!
Prince went totally INDIE from 1996 to 1999, he won a Webbie for his NPG Music Club. Non of his websites failed... he shut them down (his choice). Prince was an innovator during this period, releasing albums via his website. He didn't care about record "sells" during that time. He has already sold millions of records and played to sold out arenas/stadiums. Prince was taking control of his own career, which alot of ppl would have said was the wrong thing to do and that he wasn't relevant anymore, but he did things on his own terms. He released some really good music via NPG Music Club and a stellar album "Rainbow Children". As for the venues he chose to play, they were smaller because he played alot of the newer material and rarely played the hits. So it wasn't like he couldn't sell out a venue... he wanted to cater to the core fan base, not the casual Prince fans!
Torre Sanz I agree to a certain extent. Emancipation sold 2 million "cds", not 2 million copies, due to the fact it was a 3 cd set. If it were a 1 cd album, it would have sold just over 600,000.
His choice of venues was because he couldn't sell out like he used to. This was proven during the Gold era, when he had to drop stage props, and stage hands because the attendance was getting smaller and smaller.
I respect prince! He basically took a chance on career suicide for a cause he felt was right. And here we are in 2014, and he has won the war. Props to Him!
If you are speaking of the Onenight alone tour the venues were all small as he was only showcasing one CD and those shows had tickets going for $200.00 a piece.

Thir so much we can say,but we don't know how this man is feeling inside, he did say he got teased in school his father made sure he knew right from wrong.he went on a Journey route beautiful lyrics had electrifying concerts his wardrobe was unique soft-spoken generous!! the worst relationships but he did get his master's back never seen him and a concert wish I did maybe in the next lifetime love his music and his moves and movies............
I think in this interview, he was already leaving her for Manuela. If I recall properly from Mayte's book. That is why she didn't sit right next to him until he told her to scoot closer. I think she was noticing he was distant from her.

Kelley Germroth so did I. I pre-ordered it when it came out. But now I hear she narrated the audio. Now I want to listen to the audio. Was it just me? Or were there times she described things in the book that happened and I would have reacted pissed but then she would move on to another subject. So sometimes I didn’t know if she was affected by what happened. I’m thinking maybe she was so young at the time it happened that she sort of let the incident go. Kind of like what us women do when we are young and naive and in love. Anyway, I have to go listen to her audio
So I’m hoping when listening to the audio it might clarify more how she felt about certain incidents
Kelley Germroth yes you’re right. People say he was in love with Vanity. I think he was close to her . But I feel like he really fell in love with Mayte’ and that’s why he chose to have a child with her.
@@Toltecgrl honestly I think you know I love the book and she was a hundred and 10% honest and I think that she just loved him so much that she was willing to take the good with the bad you know I like how if it's the end of one of her chapters the way she describes Prince is jumping out of the plane with parachute and in the parachute doesn't open until then you just free fall the best to the to the bottom I'd like to shouldn't talk bad about Prince but she's humanized him and you know I think now we can look back at certain interviews but she's beside him or not and now it kind of all makes sense and wow it was so heartbreaking to hear By betcha by Golly Wow was done after they lost their child... Sadly now it's confirmed that Prince did take meds i choose NOT to say the word drugs cause all we know is that they were pills I think she did great and I too want to get the audio !!! ROCKNROLLFAN I know spanish, & the translator lost some of his words. Plus the people in the room DIDN'T even understand his humor, which is embarrassing.
This was a great press conference!! He could not have said it better when speaking about journalists. I only heard how weird and excentric it was that he changed his name and was an ass about autographs. Never once did I see any of these simple and great answers in the news. The record company owned the name "Prince" ok, I now totally get it! He reconnected with God and doesn't believe in Idol worship, wow that makes so much sense!! People do absolutely worship celebrities. Rest in peace!!

The translating was annoying. it would have been better if Mayte translated. You can tell she adored him. She was beaming at him the entire time. He looks totally annoyed though at having to deal with the press!
I was thinking the same thing! She's very fluent in Spanish becz she's Puerto Rican.
I think that was what Prince spoke in Mayte's ear on 21:05 to 21:07, when the interpreter did not understand what he said :)

Prince spiritual growth is what really separated him from Mayte. She said in her book she wasn't into it so that pretty much sums up the energy. You can hear and see he was on a search for the truth and they were just on two different paths.
Agree, besides I read on another blog site he annulled the marriage because her and her mother lied, I'm sure it was about many things 🤔

Prince didnt just not want anything to do with her because of her son passing it's definitely a lot more, folk can believe her lies if they want. Prince was very uncomfortable and you can tell Mayte annoyed him. He realized that he was totally done with her, when she spilled the beans about the location of his house.
His facial expressions were classic, if looks could kill mayte would of been dead

Yes but they had lost a baby after 8 days of life AND right after THAT miscarried Prince never recovered from that also this is when he was studying as a witness and his wife did not agree I read her book it's AMAZING !!! Church love, he mentioned that during another interview. He had so much ahead of him, can you imagine the number of great kids he would have helped. Kids with musical talents taught by Prince, can you imagine? The man could play classical music too...can you imagine what he could have done with that Yamaha piano they made especially for Prince? He had a lot ahead of him. God called him home...tears are not going to help him, please pray for his soul, I am sure he isn't at rest. Pray for his soul and ask God for his mercy.
