I’m looking to put a 12v p pump into my wrangler but been a little hesitant about it because I’ve never done a engine swap. Watching the land cruiser come to life gets me super excited about it
It wouldn't be super hard all things considered, and would be a pretty unique build, but I wouldn't expect it to be a necessarily great idea. 6BTs weigh around half of the entire Jeep itself, and are already front heavy in a stock configuration
Another thing that really helps involved and expensive projects like this are a supportive family (wife with a good job, established parents, established in-laws, etc.).
This is probably one of the most wholesome and greatest comments. Yes I’m lucky to have a wonderful wife and a great job that lets me do projects like this. As well as supportive parents/family
I commented on a previous video about the white vehicle. I met you in Hermiston Oregon one time at the LOVES. anyways I used to live in Oregon. Now I live in north Idaho 👍🏼
Sound like you could have bought a 1HD-T or 1HD-FTE for that price 😵 I bought a 1HD-T used in good running condition, but high mileage for just 1000 USD but I know that is a steal and don't come up often.
You found a 1hd-t for $1000?!? If I had found one at that price I would have grabbed it too! I do like being able to use plumbing parts and go to any auto parts store here in the states to get parts though
@@Austin_SaintOnge Yup, I grabbed it as quickly as I could before anyone else found it for sale. I don't think the wrecker knew what he had. Still have it on my trailer as I don't know what to do with it yet, I just knew I needed it 😅 There is a HDJ100 with manual gearbox for sale for just 7200USD some hours away from me. It has some rust that needs to be welded and some other TLC needed to be done to it. I am really tempted to offer 4500 for it and see if I get it for that, but my property is already "clogged up" with non road worthy Land Cruiser's 😮💨 A valid point, here in Europe it is the opposite as I will have to look hard to find anything imperial compared to metric. Most pipe fittings are in British pipe threads though, same as many fittings on JIS engines.
Literally nothing up til that point. Stock 30 year old springs. I would have gone with new springs in an oem height but I went up to 37s and want to be able to articulate. People worry so much about the weight but there’s been quite a few of these swaps done with several years on a 2 inch lift with no issues. I did go with the heavy duty springs which do help
I’m not sure how this works on a non vgt turbo so correct me if I’m wrong but removing the silencer ring can cause some issue like surging. I did it on a Cummins and ended up buying a new turbo.
You’re $10k out of the gate for the r2.8 and I’ve seen a lot of them roll bearings. The 6bt is just classic and no wiring which I view as a plus as well
@Austin_SaintOnge damn didn't know the 2.8 had issues. I've wanted to Diesel swap my Sequoia for awhile now but idk if I wanna do a Cummins or something else. Still weighing my options.
Im really wanting to get a 12v 7bt p pump into my 91 fj80! Im going to try n do it for the cheapest possible. Meaning I'll just use the stock auto it came with. Does anyone know of someone who did this? And also is there an adapter anywhere to pull this off? I would love to have a mechanical engine and transmission.
Do you mean the auto that came in the dodge? The auto that’s in the Land Cruiser has been used before but currently no one makes an adapter plate for it
@Austin_SaintOnge Seriously! I think I've seen someone custom make one somewhere. But I don't have access to that equipment. Also I've been talking to peeps on mud n they said the auto a440 gasser has different valve body n shift points than the auto a440 in a diesels. I said can't you just swap the torque conver from a diesel and play with the detent cable to change shift points a bit? No reply yet. Anyway I'm rethinking now the best way to go about this. Probably the best thing to do it just sell mine n buy a cheaper one with a diesel in it from the mother land. Been looking a guy can get one for around 15k but only auto n about 250-300 km n no diff locks. Still not a bad deal.
@ hmmm yeah that’s tough, might be as easy as swapping a diesel trans in, or could be more difficult. An imported one probably is the way to go If you don’t have the space/time to do them
Great video. I’m still having loads of trouble communicating with Dustin. He’s absolutely terrible at responding. I’m literally trying to send him money for stuff and he still won’t get back to me. :/
@ sure I can understand that but I assume he’s in business to sell things I don’t understand how you can be too busy to actually sell the items. 🤷♂️ Years ago there was a guy out that direction who made complete Cummins swap kits who started becoming notorious for taking money for the kits and then not sending the whole kit and was also very unresponsive. Allmaras (sp) machine I think was the companies name I believe and the name Dustin rings a bell. I hope he’s not the same guy.
Thanks! Love your stuff! It’s from powertrainintegration.com. They’re not currently listed on his site but you can email him, he’s got some stainless ones
Imagine not knowing anything about engines or cars like yourself. Because if you knew anything. There’s not many companies that make a better diesel than Cummins if any at all. Especially Toyota
@@breaker3269 while I'm definitely in agreement with you and think the above commenter is nuts for talking 💩 about a Cummins and clearly has no clue what he's talking about, I have to be fair and also say Toyota does also make some great engines, including diesels.... same with Mercedes, like their OM648.... pretty much the 2JZ of the diesel world (some key upgrades, and they make fantastic power and will literally scream and sound exactly like 2JZ's once spooled and on song 😅)
I’m looking to put a 12v p pump into my wrangler but been a little hesitant about it because I’ve never done a engine swap. Watching the land cruiser come to life gets me super excited about it
That sounds rad! Yeah I had never taken on a project of this magnitude before, but I kinda figured it out as I went. Glad you’re enjoying!
I’ve done a couple 12 valve swaps and man they are easy when you get through the first one.
It wouldn't be super hard all things considered, and would be a pretty unique build, but I wouldn't expect it to be a necessarily great idea. 6BTs weigh around half of the entire Jeep itself, and are already front heavy in a stock configuration
Its not too bad just take it step by step, take pics and vids of connections and shit, you'll be fine 👍
@ yeah just a lot of going back and forth to see if things fit. Once you know where they do it’s pretty easy!
Another thing that really helps involved and expensive projects like this are a supportive family (wife with a good job, established parents, established in-laws, etc.).

Mate great build !! I’m itching to do and engine swap to my 80 ! Cheers from Australia
Hey thanks man! Gotta get down there to try out some of the tracks! What engine you thinking about swapping?
Dude just saw this on fb. I need it.
Haha thanks for checking it out! It’s quite the combination!
Nice man! Can’t wait for my FJ40 4BT to run soon!
Nice! That’ll be rad!
Mate what a weapon she is in person!

Cheers,

Bro it was so nice meeting you! Glad you enjoyed it!

lol no way! How you doin? Northern Idaho is awesome!
@ I thought maybe you lived here too cause you said you drove up to dynomite diesel
Thanks for moving away from Oregon. That’s great. 👍😎
@ haha yup!
@ haha yeah it’s getting crazy
Dang a 6, i just assumed it would be a 4bt. That's alot of power for that platform. Bet it's fun.
Yeah it’s definitely a huge power to weight ratio! The 4bt shakes the entire truck too much and they’re more expensive/harder to find
that's insane, but coming from a guy who is also building his Frankenstein project i can understand it. There will never be another like it
Haha yup! Which makes it kinda cool

What did you do to the suspension to enable it to carry the weight of the Cummins?

I really want to I think 4bt swap a ranger I’ll have to start that project soon
That’ll be sick!
Nice build! how many hours do you have into it?
Man probably about 400 hours ?
Actually closer to 250
How did the wiring harness work go? Was is as involved or tedious as it looks?
It’s pretty tedious
I’m not sure how this works on a non vgt turbo so correct me if I’m wrong but removing the silencer ring can cause some issue like surging. I did it on a Cummins and ended up buying a new turbo.
I haven’t had any surging as of yet, lots of my buddies take them off as well. My watergate is also welded shut 😂
@ wonder if I did something wrong. I did it on a 2012 6.7 Cummins and it surged when I got on it made my exhaust brake act weird.
For this kind of money and work, why not an R2.8 over rebuilding an old 12 or 24 valve? Just curious.

great work on the rig, Where did you get the exhaust from ?

Just 10 seconds in assuming you spent at least 20 grand. People think these are cheap swaps and they are not.
That’s really what it costs just in parts if you want it done really clean. They are pretty frickin expensive
Imagine swapping a shit American engine in. Madness.
Imagine not knowing anything about engines or cars like yourself. Because if you knew anything. There’s not many companies that make a better diesel than Cummins if any at all. Especially Toyota
