About the runs not sounding like the 80s, I kinda feel you (but a few artists were) but it really reminds me of Soul 4 Real or Tony Toni Tone to me which is late 80s/early 90s in terms of the vocalist who was doing those runs. I love this as a 33 year old. I was born in 88 and grew up listenin to Blackstreet, Soul 4 real, New Edition, BBD, Tony Toni Tone type.
