    You have a cool channel. I don't mount many birds, but primarily mammals. I noticed you mount your birds wet instead of completely dried feathers. Are you tumbling them at all? And I guess you don't gas your birds?

    Have couple questions?
    Do you inject the feet with masters blend and do you use borax on the skins?
    Also do you have a sandhill crane video thanks

      Yes I use masters blend.. and yes I use borax and Sandhills crane video will be on the channel in the future.

    Hey there , & thanks for this informative educational video,it helps out a lot.
    I found myself a heron, along the road side a few weeks ago,with broken knees ,but luckely overal its in good condition. Some fellow taxidermist from my area(in the Netherlands) telling me,not to wash a heron ,and I was put a bit off guard by thay saying.. but now,i see that you DID wash the heron..could you tell me why it can,or cant be washed? It would help out a LOT!
    Greetings from a beginner taxidermist,from The Netherlands.

    • @ArtofTaxidermy
      @ArtofTaxidermy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Floris, I wash everything.. you need to remove the natural preening oil from the feathers to avoid the mount from being a dust magnet . Use Laundry detergent that is meant for Silk and delicate fabrics, since the feathers on heron are quite delicate.... wash and blow dry you will be totally fine. I have no idea why they told you not to wash. HOWEVER I dont recommend starting Taxidermy with Heron if you havent mounted other birds before. Herons are not for beginners.

    ANother question. I'm using his real skull for the mount.. Can i still flip it insideout, or do i need to make a cut somewhere around his head? THanks in advance!

    • @ArtofTaxidermy
      @ArtofTaxidermy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh No Floris... all of these fish swallowing birds like Herons, pelicans, Cormorants, etc... they have such a stretchy neck skin that will allow any kind of skull to go through it for inverting... you are good if you want to do it the old way... no need to cut anything.

    Hello
    Is there any way of fixing a really wobbly neck of a bird that is already mounted? I’ve bought a heron and it’s neck is very wobbly but the body is okay
    Any help would be great

    • @ArtofTaxidermy
      @ArtofTaxidermy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on the position of the neck .. if it’s a tight S shape we can push some metal rods in some points but if it’s stretched , I’m afraid we can’t. It should have been mounted properly from the start.

    • @ashleighrolfe7113
      @ashleighrolfe7113 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ArtofTaxidermy it is not in an S shape, it’s elongated. I have been given the advice to make an incision put silicone or paste into the clavicle area to stiffen up the structure, any thoughts on this technique?

    • @ArtofTaxidermy
      @ArtofTaxidermy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ashleighrolfe7113 How old is the mount ? if its been done a long time ago the skin has become very brittle and dry and it might tear on you once you start messing with it... plus there might not be enough room in the skin to expand enough for the added silicone.. thats why I say it must have been done when it was getting mounted.

    • @ashleighrolfe7113
      @ashleighrolfe7113 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ArtofTaxidermy it’s fairly recent, the skin is not dry. I know it should’ve been done properly the first time, I have felt around the neck and there seems to be a lot of air and space lower down the neck to the chest area
