Thanks for a delightful lesson! I like your sound & flow! My favorite pandiero is an old approx.13" Carl Orff wood shell/calfskin-headed children's tambourine with wing nuts on the tuners, it's a lot looser & opener than most Brazilian drums but light, boom-y & jingle-jangle so I love it! Cheers! 🥁❤️

Fantastic, that reminds me of the first time I saw Airto Moreira playing his famous pandeiro solo on something similar with such a crazy tipping technique - I was utterly spellbound and it was what started me wanting to learn to play pandeiro!

I was wondering quite how the fingers are positioned behind the thumb... further or closer towards the skin? How bent should they be or should they be straight? Or does it matter at all?! My pandeiro is quite large and heavy and I struggle a bit holding it for long. Thanks!

Hi there! It will depend a bit on the depth of the pandeiro shell; if it's very deep, you might find it a little more tricky to hold as you'll need more of your hand to grip around it. Without being with you in person, I might advise that whatever feels most comfortable (with your thumb still on top) is the right thing for you/your drum. As we progress through the week, I speak more about the fingers on the back side of things ;)
