Never even realized the full theme has been up on youtube since 2019 but with recent renewed interest in the 2001 build thanks to the leak I'm more inclined to look for anything to do with it. It really is a fantastic piece that harkens back to when game music was memorable and had soul. The final release of Duke Nukem Forever (2011) while having a decent soundtrack was largely forgettable (except the Elevator music; that was pretty sweet) whereas Duke Nukem 3D's music if listened to on youtube would almost immediately draw your mind to the level in question. Who can really say they don't remember the level where Aliens Say your prayers played?
It feels like a timemachine that sucks you in and brings you back to an alternate universe, where DNF was released in 2003 and beat the shit out of the top 10.
@@raidone89 gameplay seems to not have changed too much, instead of ego being health it's a health bar and an ego bar that acts as armor, full body animations were implemented, also the melee weapon (other than the chainsaws) has changed from the mighty foot to the fists, it's not known if the quick kick was still in but it might be. physics and ragdolls were in, though this might not have changed too much in the game considering there's already hl2-style throwing (with more rudimentary physics) in the 2001 build. yes, doom 3 inspired lighting was implemented in 2003, and from the video alone it does look broken in most levels, but if you look at the screenshots included in 2011 you'll see that the problem likely was that they simply didn't adapt the maps in the video for the new renderer yet. the game looks way better in those screenshots. there are parts of the 2003 video that look more polished too, like lake mead. as for the weapons, as far as we know they were the exact same as the 2001 build. the 2 exceptions we know of are the m16 and the mighty foot (mentioned earlier). the m16 was changed in 2002 to a weapon inspired by the pulse rifle from aliens, you can see it in the 2003 screenshots. it had a higher magazine capacity, from 30 to 50. we don't know about any other changes but it definitely had different weapon animations just like the desert eagle considering FBA was implemented. BTW, statements from developers like Charlie Wiederhold responding to Fred's claims that 2002 was 90% complete deny that, instead saying it is indeed way more complete than 2001 but still far from 90% complete. also, Charlie mentions how several levels like the Stratosfear, the Slick Willy and Lake Mead were made fully playable by 2003. the Stratosfear even had a fully playable boss fight against "The Blob Wall", which was chasing you around the whole level until you confronted it. meanwhile, Lake Mead flowed completely different from 2001, going from just a straight ride on a boat to the next level with occasional enemies to a fight against an alien mothership where you would even get into a "gravity bowl" under it. the Slick Willy had a boss fight against a helicopter, you would try to get away from its spotlight to sneak past it then try to take it down. TL;DR: the 2003 build is basically just a more complete 2001 build with more feature creep and fancier lighting
Unfortunately yes, this track only appears at the end of the 2002 Duke Nukem Forever trailer showed at E3 that year. As far as I know the 2011 release lacked this track
Damn, this song is awesome... A shame we never heard the full thing until now.
hope the 2001 version gets released, I want to play that build.
Your wish might come true next month.
Maybe, but let’s not get too excited just yet. Duke fans get blue balled all the time lol.

"Hehe! You Think Them Sunglasses Make ya Look Cool Or Somethin?!"

Should have been released in 2001
crazy this was made in 2000/2001 and it's still in the game 10 years later
Much better than the actual 2011 Strip Club theme!!
Weird how the version in game just sorta cuts out the first minute and a half. The one in game starts at 1:18
Awesome, I hope more will surface.
I would actually go to strip clubs if they had this kind of music
love how heavy it gets near the end
This has become on of my favorite songs for working on something cool. ;D
