Another member of my family also had a matiz and I can remember it was really roomy inside; we got 3 average sized adults and to kids inside. It didn’t feel to bad although the cars engine completely broke down not too long after. It lived 18 years... RIP Daewoo Matiz...

I have no idea what the downer on City cars was on Men and Motors - the success of the i10, Mii, UP! , CityGo, 108, C1, Aygo, Panda, 500 etc shows how far off the mark they were - swamped by a Tsunami they never saw coming through their sneers

I have Hyundai Atos from year 2000. My whole family used to go to seaside with it (800Km from Serbia to Greece), all 5 of us. Boot is big enough for 3+1 soft bags (3 lenghtwise and one across over them) + 2 smaller ones over wheel arches , and some clutter can fit under boot around spare wheel. There was even room for parasol.

My mother had a Hyundai Atos 2000. Very nice car, a lit of space for its size, very efficient with fuel consumption,. Very reliable car, cheap maintenance, cheap tax and insurance, and when it was time for me to buy a used car, i was in dilemma, buy the Atos or the Accent? I bought the Accent 2004 model. Both of them were in excellent condition, their price was the same, so i bought "more car" for the price.

Ive owned the mk2 arosa 1.0s and now ive got the mk2 deawoo matiz 1.0 4cyl 8v version and i must say the seat has better build quality but the matiz is more nippy and the turning circle is fantastic, having 5 doors is also better and the matiz is also legally a 5 seater although very tight but not bad for children as i have a few, parts are also cheaper than the arosa.

I'd take one any day over the other two, it's easy to get in and out of with 4 doors, can easily take 4 adults in reasonable comfort, manages a small amount of shopping and luggage, is nippy in the town with the 800cc version and with the 1.0 litre version, great on the motorways, and is good on economy too.

Having owned both a Matiz and arosa, I can tell you a few things about this review, the first is that he isn't comparing them to each other but more reviewing them as though they weren't the cheapest cars on the market at the time, especially with the space thing, they're small cars what do you expect? This was also filled with massive inaccuracies, not a fair comparison

I bought a mk1 Ford Ka over those 3. 1.3 engine so pretty powerful for its size, boots quite large compared to them 3. Its only a 4 seater but the rear seats have great leg room. And for a young male, whose just passed his test, Very cheap to insure.
Only downside is they do suffer from rust quite badly if not maintained properly

Few people know a particular: the Matiz was born as a proposal for Fiat (see Fiat Lucciola based on Fiat Cinquecento).
Fiat refused it, Giugiaro proposed it to Daewoo who wanted to produce it with 5 doors.
Essentially, the Fiat management made a suicidal decision: a small Fiat MPV (bigger than Matiz) went to the market only in 2003 (Fiat Idea, Punto mk2 based) always from Giugiaro

  • @HairyBranflake007

It seems sadly ironic that the daewoo matiz turned out to be thirstier, rustier and more polluting (in the UK) that the other two cars here. I also thought the interior plastics felt too cheap for a car competing with the other two brands. A good idea in principle but didn't quite do it for me personally (yes I've owned a matiz and a seicento and much prefer the latter)..

    Matiz? wtf.
Seicento? Good looking, fuel efficient, mini hot-hatch with lively engine, that loves to rev.
Remember, that you need to feel good in a car. What kind of emotions will Arosa deliver? Sinking in a wallpaper glue?

Clio is much better than all these, bit bigger but no need to be so small and its unsafe, if you have accident in that fiat you will die!

Clio is french therefore has poor buid quality & reliability. The Seat is basically a rebadged Vw & will be much more long lived than the other 2 & most certainly any Clio.

@@fishbmw - "is french therefore has poor bui(l)d quality & reliability." & "Vw & will be much more long lived than the other 2" - based on nothing other than folklore, stereotype and prejudice.....

Seat Arosa is the best. Daewoo Matiz is so ugly and I didn't buy this car.
