I remember when Christopher Cross's first album came out in 1979 & we all bought a copy. The whole album was good with one hit after another including "Sailing", "Ride Like The Wind", "Never Be The Same", "Say You'll Be Mine" etc. He won 4 Grammy Awards for it. He released a 2nd album in 1983 with a few hits on it. But sadly after that his fame declined. Success came quickly, all at once & then suddenly faded. Too bad as he was very talented.

His interview on Rick Beato the other month is amazing. He is 74 and looks 20 years younger than that. Huge talent.
He actually won 5 Grammys for this album. Absolute fire 🔥

I met Christopher and his band once at a local jazz spot called The Ramshead in Annapolis, MD. This was years after the prime of his career. He is the nicest guy you'd ever want to meet. He didn't hesitate at all to take a picture with me and my husband. But the most amazing thing was that his voice had not declined AT ALL after all those years. There are other great songs in his catalogue as well.
He reminded me of Aaron Neville, big dudes with soft angelic voices.

Oh my gosh! One of my greatest memories. I was driving down Westminster Ave and Sailing came on the radio for like only the second time I was happy. Was I only a teenager then. Yes I'm 71 now but this still brings me right back there. Love your show. Your reactions are to heart. Although my thank you is modest it for real.
Chris has been writing fabulous music for many decades. So many people only know him from his first album, but there is so much more to his career that is worth listening to.

This song is so beautiful!! NSYNC did a great cover of this song. I took my daughters (who were 12 & 11) at the time and they did that song. They were on harnesses and flew out through the middle of the crowd. It was really cool!

Back before he was famous, Christopher Cross filled in when the Deep Purple guitarist was unable to play in a concert in Texas. The first few times I heard this, I thought he was talking about the canvas of a painting, only later realizing it was the canvas of the sails. Doh!

I recently saw a video of him explaining how the intro was actually a fluke. They meant for the guitar to come in first on the track, but when they hit the button, the strings came in first so they just kept it. Divine intervention.
