Here in South Florida, USA, I have been a fan of, and have collected these coins since 2020. The premium on them here is actually much less than the American Silver Eagles, and more in line with plain old silver rounds. Let see, do I buy Generic Silver Rounds or a Genuine Sovereign Coins?? The are both nearly the same price per ounce.... It's a No Brainer Really... However I noticed that some of them are starting to show milk spots which is a production problem. My Silver Britannia's have never been handled with bare hands, and live in their original tubes after initial inspection upon receipt. Humidity is 44% and they are kept at a temp of 76 Degrees Fahrenheit in a dark air conditioned closet. It is sad to see some of them getting milk spots, but I guess there is nothing that can be done about that. I understand that the Canadian Silver Coins now have a coating on them to prevent Milk Spots from happening, and from all I have read, it seems to be working. Perhaps one day the Britannia's will incorporate that technology into their coin production and then it will be "The Perfect Coin" in my humble opinion, LOL.

American here: I stacked Britannia in 1 oz coins and bar due to their lower premiums for BU. I favor QE on the obverse, but in the end 1 oz is 1 oz. Beautiful sovereign bullion at an affordable price.

It's not popular in the UK. Might be something to do with the 20% VAT liability that comes with buying them. Milk spotting does not help either , but at least this does not affect the bullion price.

For UK buyers they are relatively cheap compared to other silver coins , well known, liquid and capital gains tax exempt ( something that can't be ignored as allowances are in the process of being reduced to next to nothing ) . For everyone it's a nice design, with great security features . Although I stopped buying new silver several years ago and went for gold , due to high premiums and VAT making it very difficult to ever make any profit and even if you do it will be worse than gold as silver would have to out perform gold by 20% for vat plus another 20%+ in extra premiums.

Semi Numismatic. Hmm? Curious name. The premiums are particularly high and if, like myself, you have to rely on others to sell you a long term.... Well? The VAT at 20% on silver, essentially puts stacking silver rather off-putting.

The silver content didn't change after 2012 - there was always one troy ounce of silver in a Britannia. When they became .999 in 2013 that didn't mean more silver went into minting the coin, it meant less copper went in.

Apparently the Spanish Royal mint is coming out with their own silver coin soon, as their gold doubloon series has gotten really popular in the last couple years, in part thanks to a crazy good security feature that's like a big version of the padlock on the brit, but it manages to have FOUR images in it. If they can translate that to silver it'd be a real rival (and both be much more impressive than the eagles). I hope the Phil Harmonics upgrade their art and security someday soon. Malta's new silver bullion coin is quite nice too, and quite interesting in that it has a 5 euro face value.

yeah there's not much press about it, but their director was on a youtube bullion channel livestream a few months back and basically announced that one is coming, but gave no details on the name or whether it would be limited mintage or something relatively low premium with high mintage and thin margins (VAT makes it a big consideration). I think the security feature on the gold started in 2022 with the Toro bull, or the 2023 with the spanish horse.@@Macdonaldbullion

Thanks for your comment. I would say so because if you sell let’s say £10000 worth of Britannias you won’t pay any tax on any potential profit. Not many people have that much I don’t so I stack a variety. Precious metals is a longer term investment and although premiums are high including VAT, over time historical data suggests that the price is forecasted to increase but no one really knows. Even with the VAT on silver I personally still buy them because they’re great pieces, it’s a fun hobby and some would consider silver being hugely undervalued. Hope this helps
