- 30 years ago this very month Scots-Canadian businessman Fergus McCann swept into Celtic Park and secured the clubs very existence with an eleventh hour investment that would alter the course of Celtic’s history for ever.
A move such as that however can’t be engineered by just one man and many figures played a key role in what eventually took place on that day back on the 4th of March 1994.
In this special new series by The Celtic Exchange we speak to some of those individuals as we bring you the inside stories of what unfolded during that incredible time in Celtic history.
We’re covering the story from all angles and in Part 3 we speak with Jim Orr of "Save Our Celts" the original fan group set up to put pressure on Celtic's underperforming board.
Their journey started a full 3 years before Fergus McCann finally took over in March 1994 and Jim picks up the story of why and how they were formed, followed by everything that then played out during that turbulent time.
The Battle To Save Celtic is a new mini-series by The Celtic Exchange marking 30 years since Fergus McCann's takeover of Celtic in March 1994 .

Never was the phrase 'and if you know the history' more apt than in listening to these podcasts. Great stuff!
Thanks Gary, really appreciate that 🍀
I remember new years game at Celtic Park getting a warm leg with some relieving themselves because toilets were so bad and so few and the majority of people were half cut a far cry from Celtic Park now. The soc and cfc guys did amazing more than we could hope for, the current setup worries me. Jim and Tino respect to you guys and thank you for doing this for helping the younger fans understand our past.
Scott thanks for the kind words. Really appreciated and glad you've been enjoying the series.
Another cracking interview with Jim I listen to Jim every Friday he's a brilliant guy well done Tino 👏
Yes he’s excellent Gerry. Was great to have him on 🍀
Tino Absolutely brilliant 3 parter remembering a major time in our history. Best Celtic podcast out there keep up the amazing work.
George thanks for your really kind comments. More parts coming up in this series, and thanks for supporting the podcast 🙌🍀
Absolute quality Tino and Jim Orr is a class act in a very underspoken way. Great listening from so far away bringing happy and not so happy memories of the Celtic, a love affair spanning 60 plus years and still counting!
Brilliant to hear Gerry and glad you’re enjoying it. Jim’s a brilliant story and along with others played a notable part at that time 👍🏻🍀
This series is absolutely class
My birthday is 4th March and it was my 10th birthday when the famous line " the game is over the rebels have won" was 1st said. I remember my brother painted the slogan on his bedroom wall with a stencil
2 years later and said brother took me to my 1st ever match on the boat from Belfast. It was against Partick thistle and George cadette got introduced to the crowd at half time , the north stand was built i think so got to see Fergus ' work in action early doors and still go over a few times a season so big thanks to Jim etc for getting the ball rolling
Great work Tino and the team
Brilliant stuff Peter and great memories for you!
Jim and others played a huge part in getting the ball rolling!

Enjoyed this series. Well done. Brings back all the memories, mostly good I have to say. Bit sad at what Celtic have become nowadays regarding ownership and stewardship. P.s. I'm still alive Jim. 🍀 WW.
Willie, brilliant to see your name pop up in the comments and delighted you enjoyed it. Jim has passed on your email and would be great to chat 🍀

Yeh he was great Gerry 👍🏻🍀
Another superb interview. I'm really enjoying this series. Well done Tino. Jim is downplaying his and Save our Celts' importance but they got the ball rolling. I was a teenager at the time and they were hard times as a Celtic man. Thanks very much Jim to you Willie and the other guys for everything you did. Btw I recommend watching Jim's Celtic plays. Great craic. Hail Hail 🍀
I could listen to Jim all day 👍👌🍀

Hi from south Africa absolutely loved the three part series .Jim brought me back to thoses day for me starting in 1967 .in the jungle 6 shillings to get into the game .as Jim said standing crushed in the middle of the fans .if it was a good day no one would pee down the back of your leg trying to get his pee in a beer can ..when it was a goal and every one was going crazy u could go forward with the crowd approx 0ne meter then go back words one meter every one shoulder to shoulder in the jungle the TV camera guys were above your head .big thanks to Jim and the other guys on part one and 2 ..absolutely just great thanks for all your work back in the day hail hail
Hi Daniel, hope you're doing well over there.
Great to hear of your celtic memories (well, apart from the pee down the back of the leg bit!).
Great stuff from Jim and the guys and glad you've been enjoying the series.
Another great episode remember it well, the Cambuslang venture that at the time looked fantastic but we all knew it was pie in the sky. That this board were never going to take the club forward
Thanks Stephen. Jim brings a lot of detail to the story 👍🏻
Fantastic!

53 years young Monk! 🙌🍀 Glad youve been enjoying it
Another great one Tino (they’ve all been great) and fast forwarding to today, a common denominator seems to be a worry (from your guests) about the current board! 😮 Well done mate, I’ve listened to most of them now, just another two to go. 👍
Brilliant, cheers Mark. Glad you've enjoyed them 👍

Cheers for watching Joe 🙌🍀
need to save us again from these suits 😢
👍🏻
Why would you need a season ticket if your stadium holds 60k 😂 the older one was bigger 70k and am sure gym said he had his season book late 80s
This doesn’t even make sense?! Should clubs just do without season tkts and have a bun fight for tickets every second week?
Yes, but only 30k or so were turning up for most games, and the facilities were awful, including toilets. Building a 60k seater was a leap of faith that has given the club a competitive advantage. Remember, most EPL clubs still don't have 60k seater stadia or 52k season tickets.
Jim could hardly get a word in there Tino. 😂 Stuart Slater wis 800k to a million.
We just pressed record and went out for lunch, left Jim to it 😉
Superb Tino again good binge watching them 👌 🍀
Brilliant stuff Prophet, cheers for tuning in 👍🏻🍀
(ps New episodes on the way…)
@@TheCelticExchange Class Tino 👏 💚
Fantastic interview... Compelling story-telling by Jim told with great humour...
Absolutely Terence, Jim’s a great storyteller 🍀
Maurice Johnstone don’t wish the man any personal harm… but he will never be forgiven for what he done…. Sign for Rangers !
All pretty underhand. A strange episode
You’re a better man than me …. I cut out pics from newspapers of him and put them up on my bedroom wall as a 13 year old when he signed on again …. Will never forgive him for my childhood trauma 😂
Brilliant interview!! Jim Orr really is one of the most interesting podcasters out there!! Get him on a monthly basis Tino!
We cant afford him Moe! :-) A great storyteller though!
Really enjoyed these interviews. Brings back a lot of memories of that time 🍀
Cheers Brian, been some brilliant stuff from Jim and the other guys 👍🏻🍀
This 3 parter has been outstanding, congrats to everyone on this 👏🏻👏🏻🍀🍀
Thanks for the kind comments Scott 🍀 More parts in the pipeline…
@@TheCelticExchange Grand 👏🏻👏🏻, look forward to this 🍀🍀
Brings a wee tear t yer 👁, Jim Orr a legend, 🍀
He was brilliant James 🍀 Thanks for watching
@@TheCelticExchange Wis a privilege, I’m 57 now , good t get a wee heeds up on wit happened, time fades yer memory, but not yer heart strings t this club 🍀🍀🍀 thanks fur the reboot 🤣
We now need SOCA. Save our Celts Again.
Maybe not just yet Raymond 😀
Jim and his generation never give that billy McNeil team credit or billy as manager . Treating billy the way the did as a support didn’t help stoping rangers marching on to ten . Jim was probably one those guys booing Fergus that day . Until 2012 nobody gave a dam about fergus or save our celts
Your comments are baffling 😂 How did you know how giys like Jim felt about Billy, Fergus or anything?
Also, you’ll need to remind us when Rangers marched on to ten 👍🏻
@@TheCelticExchange they didn’t as we know but I’ve seen jim on many shows Tino slating billy he’s been around your shows no the only thing he’s been on m8
The Battle to Save Celtic has been a tremendous set of podcast. Really enjoy listening to Jim Orr and once again he doesn’t disappoint. This is a great listen to a gentlemen who played a huge part in starting the campaign to save our club. Cheers to Jim Orr!
