First of all, let give thanks to the presence of Allah SWT for His mercy and grace. Don’t forget to pour out prayers and greetings to our esteemed Prophet Muhammad SAW.
Ladies and gentlemen
Let me introduce my self, my name is Anggi Listiyani from class 6B of English Literature with student ID 12221316 will deliver an informative speech about National Kebaya Day. This speech aims to inform that there is a national kebaya day in Indonesia which is aimed at respecting and preserving one of Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage, namely kebaya. Kebaya is not only a garment, but also the identity and pride of our nation.
Kebaya has been an integral part of Indonesian culture for centuries. Originally worn by aristocratic women in Java, Bali, and Sumatra, the kebaya has now become a widely known national fashion. The kebaya reflects the elegance and subtlety of Indonesian culture, with designs often adorned with beautiful embroidery and sequins.

July 24, 2024, will be a historic day because National Kebaya Day will be commemorated for the first time. This commemoration was inaugurated through Presidential Decree of the Republic of Indonesia (Keppres) Number 19 of 2023 concerning National Kebaya Day, and was signed on August 4, 2023.
The initial history of the establishment of National Kebaya Day came from the idea of the Indonesian Berkebaya Women’s Community. Furthermore, the idea was approved by the Ministry for Human Development and Culture.

Kebaya is not only worn on special occasions such as weddings, traditional ceremonies, or holiday commemorations, but it is also starting to be reintroduced as everyday wear. Many institutions and organizations encourage the use of kebaya on certain days every week. This is an effort to make kebaya closer to the younger generation and increase the sense of pride in national culture.

Preserving kebaya requires support from various parties, including the government, designers, and the public. The government can play an important role by holding kebaya exhibitions, design competitions, and awareness campaigns. Designers can continue to develop modern kebaya designs without losing their traditional essence, thus attracting the interest of the younger generation. The public can also contribute by wearing kebaya and promoting it through social media.

National Kebaya Day is an important moment to remember and preserve our cultural heritage. Let’s work together to maintain kebaya as the nation’s identity and cultural heritage. By wearing a kebaya, we are not only showing our love for our culture, but also contributing to preserving it for future generations.
