One of the most underrated and underappreciated musicians and vocalist of a generation,
💯💯💯 couldn’t agree more
Agree 100.
John Popper was also a brilliant writer. Words that resonate deep into the soul. Dylan-esque
i dont think hes underrated or unapreciated at al
Exactly a band only people from a certain generation will know, 90's Baby's like myself know this song specifically
We will never, ever be able to imagine how tired they are of playing this song, and yet they still kill it.
Sure doesn't look like it.......
I’m sure they’re sick of Hook also, but they still rock it.
I saw them at Northeastern In Boston many years ago when this was a hit and after playing 12 minute jams of every unknown song in their repertoire, guess what song they didn't do?! we were pissed!
@@RockDocNeal 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
It’s better then having to hide and sing mr Jones for the counting crows.
One chord progression the entire way through the song....and it ended up amazing and I can still listen the whole way thru nearly 30 years later. Epic.
20 years later, and Blues Traveler is still rocking this song!
My favorite. :D
M R fuck it's been that long ? Damn time goes fast
Actually 20 something years
@@doranmitchell1700 close to 30 now!
@@carpediem4887right
Dude ain't lost a step. Still sounds as good as he always has.
That boy has got some great lungs and never has a problem hitting every note perfectly! 😉😎
His voice has aged like a fine wine holy smokes it sounds the same as it did 20 years ago!
John Popper was one of the "we need this musician now" situations. He popped up (no pun intended), in a time where we needed cheerful, jam band happiness. This man brought us the HORDE tour.
I saw them at the H.O.R.D.E. Festival with Neil Young, Morphine, Squrrel Nut Zippers, Ben Folds Five, Toad The Wet Sprocket, Big Head Todd And The Monsters, Primus (and a couple other bands I can't remember) on July 17th, 1997 at the now demolished Irvine Meadows Amphitheater. Good times. It's funny because absolutely nobody I knew at the time wanted to go with me to see these awesome bands all in one place (!!!). Oh well, it was their loss because the festival was amazing!
1996 horde festival at the gorge in Washington my friends and I all went to see blues traveler. The band that played before them was one I had never heard of called the Dave matthews band. Fast forward a couple years later and DMB was selling out the gorge by itself lol. that being said I always come back to the mountain wins again.
John Popper is simply a monster talent - oh, man, how he can rip that harp! And what a soulful, powerful voice he has. They're like an act that should have been at the original Woodstock - especially on this song, as it's just so iconic!
i saw a harmonica player compilation a few weeks ago that had some decent players besides Popper, but otherwise i've never even heard another harmonica player in the same galaxy as this guy... just amazing... he makes it sound like a guitar...
I never realized how musically tight they are. They sound like seasoned pro musicians. The background harmonies never waiver during the chorus even though the lead vocals are free styling all over the scale.
God I miss the 90s
fiestacassarole Me too, cause I was like young and stuff...
Jam In The Van and....me too! God bless u for this video!
+Jam In The Van Likewise!
+fiestacassarole Right there with you, buddy
You're lucky to have been a part of them. Look at the "music" I'm stuck with 😖
Had no idea that was a harmonica all these years of hearing this song...he's gotta be the best harmonica player to have ever lived.
He used to hang out in the lower Eastside NYC and when people would say hello to him he would sometimes give his fans a harmonica.
He's great, but that honor definitely belongs to Paul Butterfield
what did you think it was then?
Popper took it to another level, with a fast energetic style. But Sam Hinton was the master harp player.
@@holprod00 Kazoo played by an expert.
Good god. LIve. In a VAN, they still manage to sound BETTER than the album version from twenty years ago.
If someone asks me to define talent i'm linking this video.
He does play a mean harmonica, but I'm only disappointed that can't seem to play the exact version of his songs from years ago. For instance, the Hook solo that he played on the album...he once said in an interview that he "forgot the notes" or something like that and therefore doesn't play it the same. That has always kind of irked me.
I was blown away by this, too! I agree.... saving a link to this video... and I've added it to my 9 year old son's TH-cam playlist.... that is filled with the greatest rock'n'roll videos of all time!!! :)
I mean this is true talent. Which basically no longer exists which is so very sad to say.
One of the most underrated artists of his era.
These dudes were bad ass back in the 90s but it is astonishing as to how polished they become over the years. I didn't think a perfect song could be perfected song. Bravo to Blues Traveler and the sound engineering of Jam in the Van.
He looks better than he did 20 years ago!
+jrjubach He has lost a significant amount of weight
I'm glad it didn't affect the voice
Hard to believe it was 25 years ago that these guys hit the scene
Yes everyone looks better when they lose weight.
One of my favorite bands during my high school years! Now it's been nearly 30 years later and I'm still listening to them!!!
Dude he fucking killed it lmao, that was dope af.
This band is so dam cooowl! 🍺😎👍 And great homonica !
I don't care for this term normally but, "awesome sauce" seems to fit here. Love the harp improvisation and tight beat especially!
Even when he’s straining himself his singing is amazing
Long live my childhood songs..
I miss the 90's.
Popper’s phrasing on his songs is unreal.
It's gotta be our mission to make sure no one is missing out on blues traveler
I can honestly say this guy is better live than the studio version.
The way John plays the harmonica is so iconic and one of a kind.
I always thought growing up hearing their songs that it was a special instrument... 😂
The talent this whole band has is just insanely underrated, but to those that know, I salute you! 🤘🤘
I always forget how much this song rips
Thrilled to see Mr. Popper in better shape too...we need this Treasure to KEEP ROCKING for years to come...Cheers!
Ya know, no one ever says this but with the breath control and mouth manipulation Mr Popper manages he must be an absolute madman when going down on chicks...
🙌🏼🔥
The best
I was thinking the same thing 😅
This is one of a few songs that I can never get sick of no matter how many times I listen to it.
Where are these guys now? This band rules.
Thankfully Popper lost that weight years ago so we can watch this today. I saw them front row at MSG opening for the Jerry Garcia Band in '91. If truth be told, they were better than Jerry that night. And the Hook brings you back...
I saw them on that tour later in SF I fell in love with Blues Traveller immeidately
Good times
This is a particularly good tune to dance to!
heck yeah!!! Always loved this song. Has to be one of the best harmonica players in the world.
I wonder how many of his harmonicas have had a reed blown out by him? :)
I had the pleasure of meeting the full band in Charleston, WV and watching their full set. I will say they are amazing performers and great personality's to be around...
will never miss the 90's but this dude plays that harmonica like close to no other. the fire in that soul will never die
Only dude on a harmonica that ever got me rocking out like Van Halen was ripping it.
Man, they sound better than ever..
Love you guys!!! John your so amazing, I'm so happy the record companies didn't get their ways...
I've not broken out in tears in a long time .But for some reason this song, this live version, just hit the spot
These Jams In The Band clips REAAALLLY make me want to have an ice cold IPA!!!!!
The Blues Travelers are as AWESOME as ever!
The sheer joy on the bands face says it all.
2023 still rocking!!
underrated. I still listen to Four every day!
That was the best i have ever heard Popper sound,....a classic.
amazing singing still. wow. John popper. love this tune as well
My favorite. :)
So, so good!
this band is the REAL deal, I rarely like a band at an outdoor show but they killed it. so basically they can slay in a van or a anything you put them in.
This is amazing I remember my dad playing this song as a kid been following these Guys for almost 20 years love the sound love the genuine passion for music they display simply beautiful
Sometimes I forget poper sings as well haha his singing sounds so good and even got more raspy soulful I think!. So awesome !!
This makes me happy.
Loving them 2021 ❤❤❤
This is such a unique and beautiful performance
My favorite...I get the runaround way too much.
Popper looking good!
Holy Cats! I miss this so much! Live Music Rules!
They sound fantastic... JP looks great too!!
This was better than when I saw them in concert back in 2001. Amazing even after all this time.
Where?
They sound so good lol it's great
As Dave Matthews would said 'thasssa Poppa on da hamonica'
.....and 'thassa lotta crap in the ol' Chicago river and on the wedding boat'
Bodhi - is Matthews dead?!
My daughter used to love this song as a youngster, she passed at the age of 16 and this song always reminds me of her
this was not the song I was looking for... but my boys!!!! 10/10 so good!!!!!! nothing but love for everyone
Love this band
Popper looks great and sounds even better. You are the Real Deal! Thanks.
They look and sound great!
I got to enjoy Blues Traveler at Dana Point a long time ago. He was so hot -& the band was smmmmokin! He looked good (healthy) and I got to tell him so after his set. He was genuinely appreciative of my comment.
What a glorious time to be 62 years old - the music I have adored has just been incredible. RIP to the many we have lost, but as the cliche` goes: God's got one incredible band in heaven!!
I have always loved this song so much!
I still don’t know how he does that with the harmonica.. crazy talent!!
Like fine wine just keeps getting better with age
Always a awesome band
Still gets my feet moving!
Love this song
My fav also. :)
I remember when this song came out and everyone said they sold out. Ha. It's so funny that it mattered so much to me back then. They sound great
Sold out? This is my all time fav from him!
masterpiece!!! Blues Traveler in full force. Great.
Remembering my 90s. What a moments!
I to miss the 90s and this kicked butt
I wasn't even alive in the 90's but I wish we could go back to music from the 80's and 90's
bad ass band run around fantastic song love them
one of the best songs and video s /// of the 90!s
Ive never seen someone play the harmonica like that before. Dude is a legend !
what a voice!
John must have lost 100 pounds over the years. Lookin good, there Mr. Popper!
That's what I told him at Dana Point Blues Fest. :)
been listening to jam in the van for years and first time i looked up blues travelers live and i cant believe it!!!!!!
Thanks.
Awesomeness!!
Imagine if Bobby was still alive. I know they're playing his bassline, but that dude was an animal.
he was a tremendous musician
super band
This song NEVER gets old !
BLUES TRAVELER sempre Show do Milhão 👏🤘🇧🇷
Saw Blues Traveler at the Milford Oyster Festival in August of 2013. They were great.
still awesome!!
VERY COOL
Popper is such a talented guy..still sounds awesome
best harmonica and biggest hit jammed in the van?
30 yrs a fan they still crush it💯💯💯
Love how the guys that play with him look at him and are like “DAMN”
The dude is a special man vocally as well as on that harp!
Gift from god brother.
Omg this song is never getting old! 2021 Anyone?
WOW! So, so good
Holy $hit you are beautiful. Had to say it, sorry haha
Aw! Thanks. :)
And then Hook came out and none of us were any the wiser. We DID eat it up.
Well played, Mr Popper. Well played.
fucking unbelievable
