This is THE biggest rivalry in Belgium in terms of hatred. Fans from Beerschot & Antwerp really hate each other. Police were flying over Antwerp with a helicopter all day, they had drones to monitor surroundings, police had to charge supporters the night before as otherwise fights would have broken out. Even after the game, the Antwerp supporters were targeting the Beerschot players and staff by throwing 'bombs' on the field. As the tunnel is next to the away section, they could not go back to the dressing room out of fear of being hit by these 'bombs'. But it is not the biggest in terms of numbers or even 'match entertainment'. I think if you go to see a game like Standard - Anderlecht, in a much bigger stadium, there will be bigger tifos and pyros but do not believe the feeling behind it is the same.
This is definitely the best derby in the country and I think it’s one of the best in Europe. I was in the stadium this match and it was absolutely incredible!

Charleroi and Standard de Liège. It could be interesting to watch one of those 'Walloon' derbies on our french side of our country
This is definitely the most well known and fierce derby in Belgium, but that's not to mention the lower leagues of Belgium that also have some hateful derbies. My local always sells over 1000 tickets for our big derby game and police is always there to keep order, and that's for a 5th tier side.
exaclty! There is no other club in belgium that always has 15 000 people for a club that has very little success. In terms of atmosphere certainly top 3 in Belgium!
When it comes to big Clubs. Anderlecht-Brugge , Standard-Charleroi and Anderlecht-Standard are fierce rivalries. When it comes to smaller teams Lokeren-Beveren is always a good derby.
The reason we’re last is because of the owners. They didn’t really want to spend money on new players so at the start our team was just way too bad for 1A but eventually they managed to get some very good players on loan and things started to get better. However just like in this game we don’t have a scoring striker and we’re so unlucky. The goal on corner being ruled off even though you really can’t tell if the keeper had the ball in his hands. And all the missed chances…
Josh, Beerschot was founded on the 3rd of September 1899 🟣⚪ They are 7 times champions and one of the first teams in the world to play in purple and white. Nice to know for you, there are quite some Beerschot supporters that like Lazio.
Josh his explanation is better... But a brief (only) 25 years of history: Beerschot did go bankrupt in 1999. Another team (Germinal Ekeren) got money and promises and changed colours, name, logo and did go play in the stadium Beerschot previous played in, hoping to be for once the biggest team in and around Antwerp city, while Antwerp had some ugly years. Supporters from 'Beerschot' went to watch that team playing as 'Germinal Beerschot'. They didn't bring in anything except 'fans' and the location (hired from the city). In 2013 that club went bankrupt also. The supporters of that club wanted another team to 'buy' as a new club (that's what 'supporters' do...). They voted for Sint Niklaas in favour of Boussou Dour (at the other side of the country), but Sint Niklaas didn't even want to be the "new victim'. Suddenly the supporters went with a lot to nearby club Wilrijk matches and started 'bonding', with only 1 goal: parasitize the next club so they didn't have to start from the lowest division like it should but could skip some leagues. After some years they got rid of the yellow and blue colours and only kept the white-purple, changed the logo, the name, (just like they did before with Germinal Ekeren)... Not much later, what was left from Wilrijk did buy the old 'stamnummer' 13 (in Belgian every Football Club got a number based on the date it started, like Antwerp got number 1, Club Brugge number 3,...) so they could 'claim' the club that went bankrupt in 1999 trophies... Other teams in Belgium does this same disgusting thing with buying 'stamnummers', but 'Beerschot' is the prime example what's wrong in modern football. Buying a housenumber won't make you own a house. After Wilrijk did start playing at 'het Kiel' the Belgian Soccer Association even had to change rules cause Wilrijk did show how ugly this can be and this has nothing to do with tradition or honor. Also the Belgian Soccer Association gets money for selling those 'stamnummers', while nobody of the victims who lost money with those bankruptcies can get some back. A shame, but even the Beerschot from 1899 started as a shame.
