    So am I breaking water regs by washing my arse with a shower head in the shower on mains? Technically, that is a douche. 🤣

    I'm visiting family in Jordan, and this trip has really converted me to the way of the bum gun. Thanks for the information.
    I don't think the bidet suggestion hits the mark, so to speak 😂 It's good to have a bit of water pressure to blast the crumbs off without needing to dip your whole bum in a bowl.

    In domestic property’s I can imagine this is a huge issue.
    In commercial property’s where we have the luxury of space in IPS voids, we install CAT V combined storage and booster pumps feeding local water heaters. Expensive and takes up a lot of space

    It's just amazing how the world changes over a little issue. COVID - toilet paper major supply problem then public resort to alternatives. We have been using a douche / lota all our life. These have been available in mainly Muslim countries from decades ago.

    I’d be installing a 4 gallon cistern dedicated to the douche to keep it separate from anything else. Just starting that conversation usually kills off the customer’s interest in having the job done which is fine by me. 😊

    since Covid toilet paper crisis I had plenty phone calls from customers to have those butt jet wash installed I never install any of it I find it easier to turn the job down rather than explaining why to the customer who’s in the end will think you making things too complicated

    Any chance you could do a video about the requirements of fitting an AG / AUK1 inlet fill valve in toilet cisterns please? And why suppliers are selling both bottom fill and AG / AUK1 inlet valves for toilet cisterns? Thanks

    I often flush my butt whilst having a shower. Apparently bathtub and shower tray are fluid category 3 risk. I wonder why toilet pan is category 5. Does not make much sense. In my house everything drains into the sewer.

      I believe Its due to the risk of the outlet been fully submerged in the toilet bowl.

    In 09:11 there is mentioned the DC backflow prevention device and as described on the drawing I could fit one of them with kept distance (height) as advised. It's only there is not much information online how would that behave with douche - some says the flow won't be any good and other says there is risk of leakage. Any comment on that? DC pipe interrupter looks like simple device, doesn't cost that much (£40-£50) but is it worth installing?

    Someone correct me if im wrong here but my understanding of wanter regs is that the break tank can only be used for the bidet and wc. Ie you couldn't have the basin on the same tank. Basically if it back syphoned and you were brushing your teeth later on you're in a heap of trouble.

    I wouldn't even connect the basin to the tank that feeds anything that can siphon back sewage water. Yeah we do have insanely water regs in the UK, but that's for a good reason because our potable water can always be trusted. I wouldn't be surprised we have the strictest water regulations in the world, you're not even allowed to touch the waterboard side without a Blue Card.
    Shame this hasn't been applied to the current trend of modern hotels having a single soil stack with an AAV terminating inside the building. They're all potential bombs and architects have zero problems designing buildings with them.

    Derek what's your take on kitchen taps you can pull down the spout on. These fall under break tank regs too but you see so many social media plumbers that have decades more experience than me banging them in. Get people telling me a check valve is fine for them too 🙈

    • @tomkatgastraining
      @tomkatgastraining  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Because they are weighted and recoil back into the tap when you let go and they have been installed correctly ie the weight is set so the hose doesn’t reach into the kitchen sink they are fine. Douches only fail because they can be left in the toilet bowl.

    • @tirvplumbing
      @tirvplumbing 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@tomkatgastraining I'd respectfully disagree the water regs say the operation of a pull out hose attachment means an alternative form of fluid category 5 protection is required. I'd interpret that as a break tank. Not trying to say you're wrong or start an argument but that's just how it reads to me.

    • @tomkatgastraining
      @tomkatgastraining  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@tirvplumbing it’s all about if the hose can go into the bowl if the hose is above the spillover level of the sink it’s impossible for back siphoning to happen. Like I said they must be installed correctly.

      You’re referring to douches here?

  • @yngndrw.
    @yngndrw. 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I'm not a non-plumber, but I have a couple of questions because I'm curious:
    1) Regarding the AUK3 air gap for kitchen sinks - Does a pull-out tap not fall foul of this?
    2) In your air-gapped example, why did the basin and toilet require separate supplies? I understand why the douche required one for both the cold feed and its separate hot water heater, but why can't the toilet and basin share their own separate supply as that's how it's usually done without a douche?

    • @MatSmithLondon
      @MatSmithLondon 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That second question is a good one. Unfortunately I don’t think this video is very clear and opens up even more questions …

    • @tomkatgastraining
      @tomkatgastraining  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The pull out tap is weighted so when you have finished it returns back to create the air gap. As for separating the supplies if they are joined together one can contaminate the other but separating them reduces the risk because of the spillover heights.

    • @yngndrw.
      @yngndrw. 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@tomkatgastraining Thank you for your response.
      1) Okay I understand from that and other comments that it's more about the possible submersion of the nozzle so that makes sense.
      2) Ah I see, I think I understand why that additional separation is required now over the non-douche setup - Because the toilet cistern is within the reach of the hose, the basin has to be separated from it?

      As long as it is fed from the toilet cistern and the cistern is appropriately air-gapped (almost certainly will be), those are fine. If the sprayer nozzle uses its own feed then it must be fed in accordance with the regulations outlined in the video.

    Hi its wet wipe man again don't know if it's of any interest recently had water inspection in retirement home the inspector was women straight away you know your in trouble when a woman has power retirement and nusering homes are category 5 high risk buildings any way double check valves to be fitted on all coming water mains dead legs no more than 30mm all fillings loops to disconnected as it's an old building there are low level cistern fitted with part 2 ballvaves she loved those because they had air break when filling she did not like close couple wc with bottom fill valve had to be changed to bottom fill air break type valve double check valves to be fitted on dishwasher and washing machine cold feeds then progressd on to showers category 5 shower head brackets have to be fitted so shower head can not be removed all shower hoses to be fitted so shower head can reach into bottom of shower tray or be submerged in water. had one dead leg about 100mm long had to be removed hope this makes sense what just wrote so when local plumber gets phone from retirement home be careful

    Your videos highlight the poor attitudes to ensuring compliance with the regs!
    Look at the licensing requirements in other parts of the world; in particular most states in the USA!
    Proper training, education,qualifications and registration needs to be the aim.
