Every year me and the wife visit Hemsby and it's always shocking to see how much is gone, feel sorry for the people who have got nowhere to go. Cheers 🍻

Flip!! Seeing this damage proper upset me. I stayed in Romany, the blue chalet shown at 1:30, in the 1970s. Back then there was at least 30 metres of scrub between the road and the dunes that led to the beach. Now the lot's gone, even the place where Dad used to park his Austin Allegro has disappeared.
In 2020 I went back to Hemsby for a day, exploring the old haunts. Romany was then lived in by a lovely couple from Canvey Island who, on hearing my recollections of the place, invited me in for a look around. I'll never forget the kindness they showed me on that day, even showing me my old room (now a toilet) and the old chamber-pot that we lads used for washing!!
From Romany to the top end of The Marrams (the lifeboat station, Beach Road and the "moozements") was a walk of about a quarter-mile, all concrete road with yards of scrub and dunes between us and the sea. It's a shock to the system to find all that scrub, and indeed some of the chalets, "gorn".
The moral of the story, I suppose, is "if those in power do nothing, those without power stand to lose everything". My heart goes out to the couple from Canvey Island, I hope you're all right and if you can't stay in Romany, hope you find somewhere at least as good.

This had been eroding away since I was a boy over 60 years ago, I can remember the debris on the dunes from way back then, but there was a good beach of thick sand which at least used to absorb some of the bigger sea, but of course this had now been swept away also, I can’t see any real way of stopping it now….

I remember going on Holiday there when I was a Child, one particular Chalet that I remember was behind the Dunes ( was 3 you had to climb up and over to get to the beach,I’m sure there was a white staircase there as well ? ).
The Chalet was Blue and White and I think it was a place where my Mother knew the owner ( most of our Holiday lets were through friends of friends etc because it was cheaper, always the last week in August to beginning of September ).
I remember Bevans Restaurant ( lard knickerbocker glory on the counter 😂 ) and the Slide in the Amusements area ( funny story associated with that Slide Lol 😂 )…. My Dad decided it wasn’t fast enough so he smuggled a can of Mr.Sheen inside his Jumper ( Submarine jumper ) and sprayed the slide as we slid down ( he used me in front of him to shield his actions from the owner/operator ).
We then proceeded back up the stairs and Suddenly we saw a young boy with his father side by side on the slide, the father was on the Polish bit !. He went quite quick but then took off from the third hump and flew through the Air ( not very gracefully and screaming 😱 ) and landed in a crumpled heap at the bottom !!.
Dad ushered me down the stairs extremely quickly ( I wasn’t happy about this as now the slide looked fun 🤩 ).
Dad handed the mat to the helper and I was dragged away from the slide with Mum looking at my Dad with a ? In her eyes.
I remember her saying " Cliff, what have you done ? " Dad showed her surreptitiously the tin of polish and we hastily departed 😁.
We didn’t go back to the Amusement kids slide for the remainder of the Holiday and I think it was closed for a few days 🙄.
Hemsby has some amazing memories,as does Happisburgh and Bacton,Caister,Wells,California Cliffs,Cromer and Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft…. Seeing what is happening with the erosion but also with the Places and people is heartbreaking in those areas,Yarmouth has gone downhill and looks Rough and dirty and dingy, the side streets of B+B’s are now Doss houses etc

I really hope they can save the remaining vehicles before they end up on the beach!

fantastic video. this erosion here apparently has been going on since 60 years ago. the whole road eaten off so badly in most of it, that cars are trapped. global climate changes along with sea level rise is the cause and its only going to accelerate. many islands that are not high tough rocky things are losing huge amounts of land to the ocean monthly. i think at some point the world erosion problem will be a universal monthly evacuation refugee situation all over

Erosion has been going on since the last ice age. At the time of the Domesday Book Hemsby was well inland. Look at some of the ancient maps of the Norfolk coast.
