You seemed to comment on almost all the character behaviour hints, but Ellie was probably quiet at the beginning because she was suffering from PTSD from the events of the last episode and Joel was really nervously oversharing at the end because he's a bad liar and wanted to distract Ellie.
My only complaint about this show is that there weren't enough infected. I understand why they did it the way they did, though, and its still a brilliant show!
Ellie is such a badass that she gives birth to herself! Of course the casting couldn't be better!😁 Regarding the upcoming seasons that will cover the second game, what you can expect is a really dark story.
I liked the idea of Warrior Nun and watched 2 seasons, but some of the decisions people made were just dumb. Kept breaking immersion for me. Lead actress was very easy on the eye, not hard to see why Chris Evans was initially attracted to her.
Well this is the first game's ending, the game exactly ends there too. And then we waited 3 years thinking we wouldn't ever had a sequel. And then a weird teaser with the firefly logo was shared by Sony in 2016 and fans lost their minds :D The first game released in 2013. The second game in 2020 cause we had to wait 4 more years ! They already said that the second game will be adapted in more than one season, which is logical, it's almost twice as long as the first game.
Joel did the right thing saving Ellie, but shouldn't have lied to her. However Marlene should have given Ellie a choice. Just because some people think Ellie would be willing to sacrifice herself dispite the chance of failure, doesn't change the fact that Ellie wasn't given the choice she deserved. Real heroes don't murder an unconscious child. That's ruthless and exactly what the fireflies were going to do. Only a sociopath would condone that. So F-The Fireflies. What happened to the Dr's medical code of ethics do no harm? I don't want to say spoilers. However I will say: No one can honestly claim that the Dr that was about to kill Ellie would sacrifice his own child to save humanity if his child were in Ellie's position. That makes him a hypocrite. Ellie's life isn't worth less than his child's. The point is any parent that loves their child would do exactly what Joel did if they could to save them. I don't have kids but would still do what Joel did if I could.
Ellie should have been given a choice. The fact that Joel took her that entire way, and the FIreflies treated him like crap when he asked to see her. The way I understood what Marlene said, was that there was a "chance" at getting a cure. They could have messed up in surgery, killed Ellie, and lost the cure option. And even if they were successful in getting a cure, how were they going to manufacture enough of it to cure the entire broken world? Let's also not forget that the Fireflies and Fedra were fighting for a long time. I don't think the world could have been saved anyway. So there was no point in killing Ellie for the "chance". Just my opinion. I loved every episode of this series. It is one of the best I have ever seen.
Ellie wasn't just at risk of dying from the surgery. She was certain to die from it because the fungus was embedded inside her brain. Re-watch these sections and you'll see that it's clear she's going to die. I guess they could have been more explicit about it but I liked the way they handled it.
This is not a decision that a 14-year-old child can reasonably make. No parent would leave it to the child nor does the law in the real world either. She is both physiologically and psychologically incapable. Physiologically the prefrontal cortex of the brain which is responsible for emotion and decision-making capabilities does not fully mature until the mid-twenties. Its why teenagers are risk takers and exhibit poor judgement and insurance companies charge higher premiums for younger drivers. These physiological limitations apply to normal preteens and teens, but Ellie isn't normal. She suffers from severe psychological trauma and survivors' guilt. She believes that she should be dead whether it's to save the world or not. She and Riley were both bitten and supposed to die. That she didn't because of her immunity only increases her sense of guilt. That's before you add in the fact that she is the one who had to kill the first person in her entire life that she loved and who loved her. She has been institutionalized her entire life, first in a FEDRA orphanage and then military school. This is why she was so quickly forming a bond with Tess, the first maternal experience of her life. Riley, Tess, Sam and even Henry all dead in her mind because of their relationship to her and because of her inability to save them while she goes on. Ellie is looking to make up for things that she blames herself for. In the next game she tells Joel that she was supposed to die in that hospital. Not I was supposed to save the world but that she should have died. That's not a reasonable adult making a reasonable decision. That's a damaged child trying to atone for something that's not her fault.
My main gripe about this finale and story line is the fact that the fireflies wanted to kill Ellie on day one. Instead of doing all sorts of tests, or blood transfusions, bone marrow treatments etc, they just chose to try the brain method and kill literally the only person on earth that's immune. That seems so premature to me. The brain surgery should have been the last resort. Bc once Ellie is dead, all your chances at a vaccine are gone. So pretty nonsensical writing on the creators part.
Thank you! Yes! Draw blood, do a spinal tap! And why would the brain surgery be lethal anyway? Take a bit of brain, that's it. So much for suspension of disbelief....they had to dumb it down, to force the conflict. Now we're left with dumb characters doing dumb things.

It's the lies at the end, and so leaving her no choice, that makes his decisions comparable to Marlene's. Btw, Marlene defeat her own argument of Joel not being able too keep Ellie alive and from being killed by the infected in the future anyway, because if she really believed being immune is little to no guarantee, and do not really help Ellie from being killed, then what is the point of killing her to make other people immune but equally in great danger of being killed anyway.
Biz it's too bad they did not use a 14 year old actress for the role of Ellie, In the game she does looks like a Kid, so it's easy to believe Joel would transfer his parental feelings from Sarah to Ellie. Biz, go and take a look at the ending clip for the game sessions showing the ending(all over TH-cam), you will see that the Very young looking Ellie invokes stronger protective feelings.

in every episode you say collect weapons from them, pick up all the machine guns and say that it is logical and they act very stupidly when they don’t pick up weapons. as a person who served in the army, I’ll say that an assault rifle weighs up to 4 kg and rifles up to 5 kg, and this is without ammunition for them. I ran with 1 machine gun with 4 magazines to it, a knife, unloading, a bag thing is already under 40kg, almost the weight of a person, I would look at you how you would run with such a weight. collect a few rifles for another +20kg. And to each their own ammo. And it turns out when you say INTO they are not acting logically and they are stupid, then in fact everything is the other way around. A lot of people watch movies and series sitting in comfort on the couch sipping tea and do not put themselves in a situation in which the characters are in a situation where they are on the verge of death and do not understand that in such situations when adrenaline goes off scale from which even hands can start to shake the mind in such situations are clouded, a person cannot always choose the most logical solution.
Biss, I really appreciate how level-headed & not over-emotional you are. This was possibly my favorite reaction to this episode. I'm glad the season is over. The show definitely has a lot of things going for it, but I personally can't take too many improbabilities & let them slide. The biggest drawback to the show was it chose to stay married to the game story line. Playing a challenging survival game & wanting to watch a well-made show are 2 different forms of entertainment.

The theme they chose to go with is very black and white straightforward and it just doesn’t have the same impact as the ending of the first game (which is a masterpiece in writing)

They don't mention this but the doctor is supposed to be Abigail Anderson's dad, Jerry Anderson. Abby is an antagonist in P2. So far we had Troy Baker, Ashley Johnson and Laura Bailey from the game in the show.

As someone who didn’t play the game, and as a dad myself, Bella Ramsay’s age had no issue with me invoking a huge protective bond over Ellie.
