    Nice lathe. In the USA it costs about $2600. My club has the Coronet Herald and it has the same screw tightening on the HS cover which is not user friendly compared to a nylon thumb screw or magnet. In the USA, the closest competitor lathe would be the Laguna 1836 which costs aboout $2900 but weighs 100 lbs (45 kilos) more but only has a 2 yr warranty. Look forward to seeing your new lathe.

    Hi Tomislav
    Slow Stopping can certainly be a problem,I’ve a Nova 1500 lathe,I bought it in 1980 and it came with a 3\4 hp motor and no reverse back then.
    I soon swapped the motor for a 2 hp motor that could be adjusted to run forward or reverse,I solved the slow stopping problem by turning and fitting a large wooden wheel to the outside of the spindle.I think it has eight speeds and is relatively easy to stop at any of the settings.I’ve used the lathe a lot over the years and now at eighty plus years old I turn every day,it has never had any issues and is still running on the original belt. I like many others really look forward to your videos and thank you for sharing your expertise and vast knowledge,thank you.

    Well done review...I noticed when you first got the lathe how long the headstock took to stop. that would be a lil irksome when fine tuning a lid fit to a box or fitting an inlay to a mortise. All in all a very nice lathe. Thanks for the review. 👍

    I'm surprised that people have such a problem because it takes too long for it to stop. That just shows that it is well made, the bearings are smooth meaning they have the right fit and there is nothing binding. To me that would be a good thing because if it turns so freely it should take less amps to run it. Great review.

    • @tomislavtomasicwoodturning
      @tomislavtomasicwoodturning  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Stoping time in this case doesn't have nothing to do with bearings, as its not spining freelly , the inverter and motor is stoping the spindle....that is why you can't stop spindle with your hands like for example dml320 lathe before this one.... Its simple as little adjust in inverter but Record power didn't wanna give away how to do it....
      Anyhow its good lathe but not for me with that slow stoping time.....

    Nice objective overview. My Rikon lathe has a similar irritating feature on the shut-off button. The button has a feature in which it stays in the off position until you push it to release it if you push the stop button too hard. I haven't seen the advantage of that feature and it often causes irritation when trying to restart the lathe.

    Hi Tomislav, I'm happy you're getting a new lathe but after watching the video and reading your comments I still have to wait for your explanation as to why exactly you're getting a smaller one again 😅 My biggest problem (and not because I'm a professional turner or anything close) with this lathe would also be the slow stopping time. I have a Midi Pro and it's taking like half the time your lathe takes to stop. That would bother me as well 😅 I'm looking forward to the presentation of the new one 🤗 Greetings ☺️

    I actually have this Record Power lathe Tomislav.
    I am very left handed and the swivel head makes it possible for me to hollow bowls etc.

    Hi Tomislav. Did you get your slow stopping rectified? I have a 2hp grinder that I installed a VFD on. The VFD is completely programmable. I can adjust in the settings where the ramp up speed can be adjusted as well as the stopping speed. On my VFD, it is very simple to change the setting. I can make my grinder come to a dead stop immediately or with up to 16 seconds of run down before completely stopping. Hope this info helps as the Eaton inverter should have similar settings that can be changed.

    Hi good review for this lathe. You can modify the magnetic brake time with programmation on VFD (Variable Frequency Drive) ask Record lathe how to change this variable parameter. I have a Sweet 16 from Robust lathe and when I have a heavy piece the magnetic brake turn off, it's too heavy for the motor to brake in the same laps time, so I change the VFD parameter to make double time to stop.

    • @tomislavtomasicwoodturning

      Thank you very much, I think its also something simple as type something in inverter and I did ask Record power about that and they answer was they will have to check with there engineers and they they might help.... Thank you for your tip and support 🤗

    • @lacoutardes

      You can check the manual instruction of your VDF with name and model on google, you will have instruction to enter in programmation mode and the brake & acceleretion parameter.

      @@lacoutardes I recommended, what you say, a long time ago to Tom. Asking help from Record Power , waranty regarding, is good, but I think they are much on woodworking than automation.😁 How the heck can stopping time affect waranty ? I put a VFD on a motor for have full control on that motor. A very fast stop may affect a 50 kg piece if it's not fixed properly in the chuck, but is not the case on this lathe..
      I think that, without electric braking the engine would stop faster( Tom said if he turn the power off from main switch, the lathe stop faster ) That is because the VFD is not controlling the motor anymore, just inertial force.
      An automation technician would solve it in a few minutes.

    • @lacoutardes
      @lacoutardes 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@catamures1 I agree with you. Some lathe constructor include the brake parameter because a piece of 50 kg can't be stop like a 1 kg piece of wood. CORONET will lost some buyer like Tomislav because they mist something in the marketing, they don't listen serious woodturners. A+

  • @MoleValleyMaker
    @MoleValleyMaker 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Interesting. I initially rejected the Regent because of the poor speed range (fastest to slowest in one gear) is quite low even when compared to other Record lathes. That's why I went for the KS Stratos 230 and I'm very pleased with it. I've never used the higher brake setting on the 230 though. Anyway, my guess is either a KS XL as you've had some KS gouges or because of the association with Mr Raffen, maybe Vicmarc. Either way, interesting times!
