    Been holding out on an upgrade for nearly SEVEN YEARS, but I think this is the one for me :) Your incredibly comprehensive testing and explanations have taught me so much since I found your channel and since I think this game will be setting benchmark standards for years to come I want my next build to absolutely demolish it (I've been playing 10-20fps average since 2019, only recently getting above 30 with new updates). Your testing has essentially assembled a parts list for me, thank you!

    Thank you for taking the time to run a 4K test! It gives me something to compare… I need to go back to Loreville and run a test on my system. I’m not sure a 7800X3D will do much better than my 7900X at 4K.

    Appreciate all the work you put into this - I've been enjoying the 7950x3D / 4090 combo (was time for an upgrade and I drive a crappy car 😂) - Lorville defo tanks my FPS once you get into flying around it, however it looks glorious and with Vulkan coming I'm very interested to see how this improves. running an intel i9-13900ks with 7200mhz memory overclocked to 7800mhz on a 4090 (while still being cpu-bound and having 30% performance left, meaning a 4070 or 3080 would be enough already) gives you even more fps, especially stable fps. AMDs x3d chips excell at LOW LOAD, this is why you get massive fps in space where there is nothing to load. if you go into a big space battle or into a city where there is high load , x3d performs way worse and the big L3 cache doesnt matter anymore cause it gets overflown anyway, so the CPU gives load to the RAM but AMD ram is capped at 6 or 6400mhz max atm, while intel can go up to 8400 as far as i have seen a motherboard do. believe it or not but even from 7800 to 8400 you get almost 10fps more. from a stock 7800x3d with max 6/6400mhz to a tuned 13900ks with 7200mhz base ram OCd to 7800 there is like over 30 fps difference that the 7800x3d cand keep up with. also if you look at the cpu ticks x3d have microstutters all over the place while the even tuned 13900 runs much more stable, meaning less 1% low fps dips in games, which is the most common part about star citizen, lorville etc.
    obviously the 13900ks consumes over double the power with that and is probably 30degrees hotter, so you also probably should undervolt it

    Would love to see how the 7900x stacks up. This video gave me some idea on how important 3d vcache is for SC, but I'd like to see the comparison between the 7900x and the 7800x3d, as they are direct price competitors at the moment.

    • @tenpoundfortytwo
      @tenpoundfortytwo  ปีที่แล้ว

      In theory the 7900x should perform pretty closely to the 7700X- the extra cores wont help in SC, but the clock speed will a little bit. But the 7900X is 2 6 core chiplets put together- which can sometimes lose performance vs 1 8core chiplet (that the 7700x has).

    Thank you very much for your in depth review! I'll be returning to SC and your channel is the only one that has been helpful with getting a system build. I'm going to be returning my 5600x 3d for a 7700 or 7600 and just switch that system over so don't have to worry about the V Cache being used. I'll probably upgrade to the 9800x 3d whenever they come out with that chip lol. I just figured it would be smarter to start on a system that's not at end of life. I just feel overall that games are going to be using the cpu more so it would be a good idea to get the best cpu I can since I'm building my system from scratch.
    I was wondering do you have a list of AMD cards that you have tested? I was looking into just getting a rx 6800 as they can be had for pretty cheap until the next generation of cards come out.

    • @tenpoundfortytwo
      @tenpoundfortytwo  ปีที่แล้ว

      Of the top end cards I've only tested the 7900XTX (which matches the 4080). With GPU's you generally can look at big tech youtubers reviews of them and get a rough idea of how it would perform in SC. From a quick google it look like the 3080 and 6800 perform similarly- and the 3080 is plenty for 1440p in SC right now!

    I suspect the lesser effect of V-cache in some areas comes from the implementation of Gen 12 renderer features in the current live build. CIG also made the game run better on Intel hybrid architectures. I no longer need to turn off E-cores or use Process Lasso on my Intel CPU. It will be interesting to see how those chips behave once Vulkan is fully implemented. I hope they'll also bring ray tracing with it.

    • @tenpoundfortytwo
      @tenpoundfortytwo  ปีที่แล้ว

      The 12900k should perform around the same as the 13700kf (possibly a little better). So I imagine there will be some areas of the game where the 5800x3d wins and some where it loses. Both are at the end of the line in terms of upgrades though so if its a new system I'd still be tempted to stretch out to one of the am5 cpus if you can!

      Tricky one to answer! The people who built a pc back in 2012 for the game will have upgraded multiple times since then. But if you're actually playing the game right now then I guess now is a good time to buy. When SQ42 releases we'll have something substantial to play, so that might be a good time to buy. The good news about all of the current hardware is that it should perform pretty well into the future, so now is not a bad time to invest.

Personally i like to have many programms in the backround. More specifically i have like 10 windows open in opera gx, nvidia and amd programs like nvidia control panel and amd master, lian li program for fans monitoring, gpu tweek and armoury crate to monitor my asus rog 4090 strix oc edition and asus x670e extreme mobo, razer synapse , vpc software to calibrate and do anything i might need to do with my hosas constelation alpha primes and filmora to record my gameplay. I use process lasso so all these programms run at the non 3d ccd and i set star citizen to run only at the 3d cache ccd and i get the same frame as you get in your wonderful video maybe sometimes a bit higher. I play in a g9 odyssey which is 5120x1440p. To be honest i doubt if ihad a 7800x3d it would be able to keep up and give me the same perfomance. So for people like me 7950x3d is the solution.
