- Another one of my favourites from Nick, recorded on my trusty Tascam reel to reel. I love the string arrangement on the original so much I asked my good friend Harry Fausing Smith, who's a very talented string player and arranger, to have a go on this. I hope you'll agree it adds a lot!

He was a phenomenal guitar player, but his lyrics and vocal abilities were very subpar. Which is a big reason i think he never broke through. The infantile predictable lyrics and mediocre singing just dont mix well over such complicated lovely guitar work. He really shouldve teamed up with a vocalist/lyricsist

I was thinking of figuring out how to play it and saw your video and clicked on it. Saw immediately how to do it....thank you. The tricky part for me is the 5/4 rhythm pattern. I'm not used to that.

Fantasic tone, both voice and playing mate. The picking rhythm really needs to feel in the grove to keep it consistant and I know how difficuly that can be to get. Beautifully played and a fitting homage to Nick.
I hope to play and sing at the same time like this one day, i just dont practice the singing enough whilst playing, kinda knocks my confidence.
If i could offer an almost insignificant critique from someone who is totally unqualified to do so and this is literally just down to my personal taste but i felt the strings, in the last minute, were a bit busy and complicated for such a laid back chilled song. I think Nicks mix was a little more subtle and that's more to my taste I guess.
I can't add enough caveats to express how little it effects my enjoyment of this cover though, I sincerely hope you don't mind some unsolicited input from a stranger online 😊

Shut the front door. That was quality. Is that a Mahogany Martin D15 you’re playing ? Sounds beautiful. I thought it might be a Guild but the headstock isn’t a Guild. You play it brilliantly and your vocal is your own with a Nick tribute. Loved it. Bravo

Really good. Nick Drake covers usually aren't. This is wonderful. Strings are a bit too present and screechy towards the end but the performance is superb.
