Create Google Meet Breakout Rooms in Advance

Breakout Rooms in Google Meet are incredibly helpful. In this video I show you how you can set these up ahead of time. Setting up breakout rooms before the meeting start and assigning students or participants to rooms is a hige timesaver.
Not only are breakout rooms great for reflection, teamwork, differentiation, and more they allo wstudents to work in small groups and teachers to recreate some of the activities that would take place in the classroom.
In addition to this is allows for a form of collaboration with various digital tools previously not possible!

That is currently not supported. You can only pre assign these from calendar. Hopefully this will be added in the future.

If I have say, 10 rooms, and everyone one knows which room to enter, when they join, am I as the host able to enter those rooms at will?

Yes, as host you can go from room to room by clicking on each respective join button, just as you would during a regular Google Meet.

Not when pre assigned. During a meet yes, but this is before a meeting has started.

Can participants in the breakout rooms change the room name or only the host?

Only the host and co host can do that

I get a message saying 'Some guests can't be assigned to breakout rooms'. I've been trying to pin the reason why but can't pin it down on anything; the ones that I can assign are spread over different email types; hotmail, gmail etc - same the ones I can't assign. It's driving my crazy, if anyone has any ideas please help! Thank you.

As mentioned in the video, it's part of Google Workspace for Education Plus. I have more info on this in another video. You may want to request this from your school administrator as it's not a free feature.

It's an ongoing roll out. Some domains will get it before others. Hopefully Google gets everyone on the new UI soon!
