Dude, notice his grip, he's doing both hands facing inwards. That makes the deadlift MUCH more difficult than a mixed grip. This is pretty impressive! Good work.
@joshuanic that's a good point. maybe for the a little extra muscle endurance. and does anybody know how much he is lifting? is that 4 45s? because they look bigger too me.
He's trying to fight at 205 and is naturally 220 so he can't gain mass like everybody is saying he should. He's trying to gain strength without getting bigger, which means he's trying to increase his nervous systems strength. Gaining mass does help with strength but it's counter productive for Jones because then he would have to cut more weight for the fight and he already cuts close to 20 pounds. He could get bigger but he would have to be more dehydrated and tired before the fight.
Hey Kelly...what is the amount of wieght jon is lifting in this vid...oh and I'm confused are those metal or rubbered weights...I'm a beginner so I wouldn't know...
@baphomet5 I have read that the lower back has a longer recovery time than the rest of the body due to low blood flow. I deadlift every friday, heavy. If he lowers the bar with good form, it shouldn't be an issue for his back. With him being so tall, he would have to bend his knees more and keep a straight back.
@qyet121csx lol when did i say anything about his muscular size? im well aware CNS activation is more important for strength (hence why all my youtube videos are singles) short limbs and size = a better squat and bench press, long limbs (both legs and arms) and a thinner stomach = a better deadlift..in powerlifting theres a saying..."the meet aint over until the bar hits the floor" and thats because the guys with an anatomical advantage of short limbs will be in the lead going in to the deadlift
@davidmij ya thats correct Dan Henderson has a rediculous high score on his core strength, not just from excersizes but with skill of how to whip the core around learned from wrestling.
@MrAntonyRicketts You're wrong on many counts. He already is a heavyweight that cuts down a large amount of weight to get to 205. If he did have to have to ever worrry about making 205 weight limit he would easily weigh in at 240-250 for a heavy weight bout.
it just goes to show you dont need to be very strong to fight,bones wins because hes so long for his weight and so technically gifted,not because of strength
@joshuanic which is like what 240 pounds? yeah i guess it's not that much, but he could be just warming up because he doesn't look like he's straining to much. and somehow he's strong enough to double-overhook-suplex guys who weigh 205 plus pounds. pretty cool.
@JohnLawrenceCobraKai i know that but he weighs over 205 probably around 225 before he cuts weight. And like i said its just my opinion. plus im sure he does a lot of other leg workouts anyway.
@bucvet1979 Big legs don't "only make you heavy". Big legs are the basis for a true hard punch, although obviously Jones is doing fine with small legs.
@bucvet1979 Like a wait at the grocery store? waiting in traffic? the wait in line for a roller coaster? Did you mean the wait for a title shot? I never really thought about a short wait for a title shot having to do with skinny legs but now that you mention it...When Randy got yet another title shot against Tim Sylvia his wait was not long and he, like John Jones has very skinny legs. Anderson Silva is another great example of a guy with painfully skinny legs not having to wait for a title shot
Isn’t eccentric loading an extremely great way to build muscle ? Also with deadlifts it is great for grip building? Is that why you say only bodybuilders? Here he is just doing for strength, not growth?
but a lot of the time the taller guys just have to stay within 50-75lbs of the shorter guys in their weight class and can overtake the defecit of being behind for 2 lifts with a crazy deadlift....this is why i prefer powerlifting over weightlifting (even though i do both) weightlifting the shorter guys have an advantage for both lifts and anyone over 6' (such as myself) pretty much has to be a super heavy weight to compete at higher levels
@bucvet1979 To further this point...Just finished training at Tristar and had the pleasure to watch Miguel Torres spar...He has skinny, skinny legs...But I've seen him drop three pro's with leg kicks in the last two weeks
@bucvet1979 No doubt! Look what he did to Rampage. There is already talk of him moving up to heavyweight. I guess they don't expect anyone in his weight class to give him much trouble.
@blade83336 Dzolé mes avec la forme de C jambes il peut avoir une vitesse de frappe excellente .Et pour les personnes qui reçoivent ce coup , cela peut être très douloureux .
@keltek04 That's a lie... Jon Jones wrestled in College and in high-school. He had to have lifted some sort of weights in collegiate wrestling... it's mandatory to do some type of weight training.
I think it's because his legs are really long. I've seen it with a lot of really tall guys who can grow big quads and hamstrings but their calves won't grow. Or maybe he's just not training his calves....
@Kevzilla123 they are thicksr because they arnt made of steel they are made of sand and plastic so that the weights can b dropped on the floor without damage to the floor or the weights n yes im training to become a fighter but i gotta stop alot of bad habits first
@Kevzilla123 they are thicksr because they arnt made of steel they are made of sand and plastic so that the weights can b dropped on the floor without damage to the floor or the weights n yes im training to become a fighter but i gotta stop alot of bad habits first. n whens the last time u asked a pro mma fighter that
the bench press with 715 and hes 5'9" (honourable mention going to kennely who is 6'1") and finally the deadlift at 1015 with magnusson at 6' (honourable mention going to konstantin konstantinovs at 275lb bw and 6'4" height deadlifting 939) ....to take that even further weightliftings snatch record of 216kg is held by krastev who is 6'1" and C&J record by taranenko who is also 6'1"....now sure all these guys are juiced, and weigh A LOT more than jones
those chicken legs are payin the bills and earnin him a badass rep in the MMA world, wat are u doing with your life? criticizing youtube videos. LOL Bones jones is a hero!
@qyet121csx if lamar gant were to be a foot taller and had the SAME proportion he does, yes, he would deadlift more, he would also weigh more, and have more room for skeletal muscle....short guys lift more pound for pound than tall guys, but only because of diminishing returns...EVERY record in powerlifting is held by someone taller than average, in terms of raw lifting wilkerson has the raw record of 1000 and he is 5'11" (although the current state of powerlifting squats is stupid) mendy has
it's funny all the weightlifting fanatics on here saying how skinny he is. He's not doing it for mass like other people. He's got more important things to worry about then how big he is, like collecting a paycheck after he uses those chicken legs to ktfo people.
@qyet121csx you're saying short limbs are good for ALL aspects of lifting, im saying that (for the most part) is true, HOWEVER it isnt for the deadlift, where being lanky (long arms and long legs proportionally to the rest of your body) is an advantage, is Lamar Gant short? yes...but for his height he is EXTREMELY lanky, at the powerlifting weight class of either 198 or 220, jones would have a mechanical advantage over any of his competitors, and yet is pulling less than a lot of novice females
Being able to lift 500 pounds doesn't make you a strong fighter. The man has freakish core and balance strength, it's a wrestler thing. Look at Dan Henderson, his arms and legs aren't huge, but both of these guys will throw you around like a child.
Lamar Gant is 5'1" and although i dont know his reach, im assuming its 6'+...now someone who is 5'1" with a reach of below 5' and legs equally as stubby, with a torso length making up the difference...it doesnt matter that they are short, because their levers are TERRIBLE for deadlifting...this example is simply down scaled with gant representing jones, only difference is how bad jones' deadlift is considering hes a ufc champ and DOES in fact have a mechanical advantage in this lift
@thedubbystep he tried and got got fuck up with counter ofter counter,then all that leg kick shit was out the window,he learn is lesson i bet he will never fuck with jones legs again.
I like how so many people without a degree in exercise science or a credible certification in strength and conditioning are stating their opinions about how Bones should be training. Ummmm who the fuck are you?
@qyet121csx the fact you dont even know who Lamar Gant is, along with KK and Benedikt Magnusson, AND that i have powerlifting videos on my channel (and you have none) should already show i know more about powerlifting than you do
I don't know how he can show off them fucking stick legs while a fit looking girl with some stunning shapely thick quads stands there and watches him. Do some squats and high rep leg presses, star.
he is not a bodybuilder. all he needs is condition himself to heavy( opponent) and drop the hell out of it. basketball player lift weight as well in the manner that conditions them to play basketball efficiently. it's not rocket y'all.
Dude, notice his grip, he's doing both hands facing inwards. That makes the deadlift MUCH more difficult than a mixed grip. This is pretty impressive! Good work.
nice how many days a week does he lift weights???????
@joshuanic that's a good point. maybe for the a little extra muscle endurance. and does anybody know how much he is lifting? is that 4 45s? because they look bigger too me.

All of his brother's are professional athletes and this guy works with the best doctors and coaches in the world... This is not bad form
Why does he drop the bar at the peak of the movement? usually I bring it all the way up and down, is that not the right way?
Same with Jones, he was a wrestler as well.
Jon Jones is a freak! He's going to be the champ for a long time.
Where is this gym located.
He's a superhero
jonny is a beast
me too! how much is it?
It ranges there are many different programs!
How much weight did he lift?
Why does he drop the weights instead of bringing them back down and up again?
@keltek04 how much weight is that?
how much weight is that?
@qyet121csx lol when did i say anything about his muscular size? im well aware CNS activation is more important for strength (hence why all my youtube videos are singles) short limbs and size = a better squat and bench press, long limbs (both legs and arms) and a thinner stomach = a better deadlift..in powerlifting theres a saying..."the meet aint over until the bar hits the floor" and thats because the guys with an anatomical advantage of short limbs will be in the lead going in to the deadlift
If I saw that guy in the gym I'd think I could take him. Who would've thought that's one of the best LHW in the world lol
Dude he huge how you say take him
@davidmij
ya thats correct Dan Henderson has a rediculous high score on his core strength, not just from excersizes but with skill of how to whip the core around learned from wrestling.
I can't figure out how much weight that is.
@MrAntonyRicketts
You're wrong on many counts. He already is a heavyweight that cuts down a large amount of weight to get to 205. If he did have to have to ever worrry about making 205 weight limit he would easily weigh in at 240-250 for a heavy weight bout.

I agree.
@keltek04 Considering the fact that he did wrestling in college I find that hard to believe he had never lifted weights a day in his life.
Those red bumper plates are 25 kg each, so that is 120 kg total. About 265 lbs
@JohnLawrenceCobraKai i know that but he weighs over 205 probably around 225 before he cuts weight. And like i said its just my opinion. plus im sure he does a lot of other leg workouts anyway.

thats how you do deadlifts to avoid excessive back strain or muscle pain,you drop the eccentric,only bodybuilders would do the eccentric generally.
Isn’t eccentric loading an extremely great way to build muscle ? Also with deadlifts it is great for grip building?
Is that why you say only bodybuilders? Here he is just doing for strength, not growth?
@@bobdole7292 deadlifts dont usually lift for growth ,its pure strength and doesnt use eccentric.Its generally not a lift used for growth

@GhettoBox69
that's kelly tekin. sick ass trainer. ask guida and jones
@Kaelan66 no idea man, most likely between 220 and 230lbs
@chazzl3 each plate is 45 pounds, they're just bumper plates.
I think it's because his legs are really long. I've seen it with a lot of really tall guys who can grow big quads and hamstrings but their calves won't grow. Or maybe he's just not training his calves....
You don't need big legs when you can throw elbows like Jon.
@thericate
sure thing bro
Damn, those are Kenyan marathon runner legs. WTF?!
That’s where he started - he worked hard to get bigger and stronger!
@Kevzilla123 they are thicksr because they arnt made of steel they are made of sand and plastic so that the weights can b dropped on the floor without damage to the floor or the weights n yes im training to become a fighter but i gotta stop alot of bad habits first
@keltek04 Post it! would be awesome to see :)
He has no hip thrust at all.. i wanna see his new version.
@jctbay agreed..well said
lol taylor swift bumpin in the back
Just shows how lifting strength only has a small transfer to mma.
Looks so much like Will Smith in this video !
350-400 easily he's pulling and making it look easy. He's a freak athlete. Say what you want about "chicken legs" he's the best P4P fighter I think.
@Kevzilla123 they are thicksr because they arnt made of steel they are made of sand and plastic so that the weights can b dropped on the floor without damage to the floor or the weights n yes im training to become a fighter but i gotta stop alot of bad habits first. n whens the last time u asked a pro mma fighter that
exhale on the up bro! gonna strain something!
yup! those weights hitting the ground!
Your meant to go down with it...not drop it!
wasnt he like doing football and wrestling? i think he did lift some weights befor
Hahaha was just thinkin that
why IS he doing such low weight? should he be doin like 8rep sets? shit idk i just thought they went for power not hypertrophy
@blade83336 his legs are still strong as hell. So...
@bucvet1979 totally dude and just because they are skinny doesn't mean they arent powerful which is way more useful in the ring or cage
Him dropping that every fucking rep has GOT to be goddamn annoying for other members there.
I'd get kicked out of my gym dropping weights like that
the bench press with 715 and hes 5'9" (honourable mention going to kennely who is 6'1") and finally the deadlift at 1015 with magnusson at 6' (honourable mention going to konstantin konstantinovs at 275lb bw and 6'4" height deadlifting 939) ....to take that even further weightliftings snatch record of 216kg is held by krastev who is 6'1" and C&J record by taranenko who is also 6'1"....now sure all these guys are juiced, and weigh A LOT more than jones

I bet it's scary to spar against him hehe.
@areid48819 Aldo is a telling example ^^

@Greengovirus because I'm sure you're opinion is more credible than the professional trainer with years of experience that's been hired to train him.
you can tell a young athletic guy like that is just going to gain muscle as he fills out and he will eventually be HW.. thats my assumption anyways
@SuperProducerDSKiNN
LOL tell him that
@thedubbystep he tried and got got fuck up with counter ofter counter,then all that leg kick shit was out the window,he learn is lesson i bet he will never fuck with jones legs again.
@tomal100100
He has to cut weight to get to 205.
haha chicken legs that are dead lifting a couple hundred pounds dude is a bad ass
I like how so many people without a degree in exercise science or a credible certification in strength and conditioning are stating their opinions about how Bones should be training. Ummmm who the fuck are you?
Look at those twig legs!
Those skinny legs are gonna KILL YOU !
Wow he has really skinny legs ! he had good bicep here but little tricep he has got twice as big since then
they are the 45lb Olympic rubber weights. he should be doing 315 not 225 just my opinion
He so damn skinnny
Hes 230
he needs to wear long pants with legs like that
the most dangerous chicken legs ever.
@tylordurden06 225 lbs
@Jamesxbusiness uhhh yea my leg duhh im not a pro cagefighter tho n crocop has huge legs shogun has huge legs each fighter much better than vera
Damn those are chicken legs
ahh okey, i think he must have been lifting some.. but i dont know, i dont know the guy, Tell him i said Hi :D!

CHICKEN LEGS!!!!!!!
damn his legs are tiny
@905Justin1 Just like most fighters, need more upper body strength. He's not a bodybuilder.
Wow, he really has comically thin legs.
@Jamesxbusiness no he fucked him up with elbows on the ground like he always does n shogun was way out of shape you could see it
