@@musicandbooklover-p2o That is simply not true. I live in Canada, and instead of worrying about the insurance flat out denying you the healthcare you need just because they can, like in America, we worry about getting put on a waiting list you’ll never be able to realistically get to the front of to even have the life saving surgery you require in the first place. We overwork our healthcare professionals and pay them peanuts to the point they burnout and leave the profession. None of us with access to universal healthcare have much to brag about. We certainly haven’t provided a better working environment for our physicians and nurses, so patients ultimately DO feel the impact.

Actually one hospital told him hospice after several surgeries. He simply found a doctor will do another procedure that is new. If he wants it he should get it. Insurance companies just don’t give money for new procedures especially with many doctors saying it is close to the end. I saw in the comments he got it. But do you think he would get several surgeries and new surgeries done once before in a universal healthcare country.

Insurance companies don't have to pay for experimental services, but there is nothing stopping the doctor or hospital from doing this for free. Also most insurances companies have a 2 million dollar life time payout and this guy most likely hit that already. Now for a story my mother works in medical insurance and about 15 years ago they had a guy that was in a house fire, no living will no family. This guy was brain dead and very badly burnt. The hospital wanted to keep him alive for longer and wanted the insurance company to pay for it, he had hit his 2 million lifetime pay out by this time. My mom was one of the people that was part of the team that reviewed these kind of claims and they stopped payment the hospital was all up in arms but when the saw they weren't going to get any more money they pulled the guys plug. I will always remember that because the doctors and hospital had no problem with a man that was brain dead and badly burnt being kept alive for money. For some context there are doctors, nurses and medical reviewers on this team of people my mother is a fraud investigators so it is not something that is just done on a whim.

Yes. It should be illegal for any insurance company to deny or alter a doctor’s recommendation for that doctor’s own patient. It’s disgraceful. As someone who lives with a degenerative and progressive disease, it is a full time job dealing with insurance companies and even prescription companies. It’s such a common occurrence that the medications and procedures that I have been doing for over a decade are constantly being denied or altered by insurance or medical companies all on their discretion, completely going against my own doctor’s recommendations or prescriptions. My own doctor is the ONLY one who is capable of deciding what is in my best interest, because they are they only one who is seeing me, assessing me and caring for me in person, and someone’s personal doctor is the only one who understands each patient’s unique needs. If ANYBODY ELSE alters a doctor’s prescription, for example, you’d be getting arrested because it’s illegal. How is it that the same doesn’t apply for insurance companies? It’s disgusting and disgraceful, and yet they are 100% untouchable!

Given that the surgery he now wants done has only been done once before successfully, there's no reason to believe it will succeed for him. Particularly relevant is that since it's not one organ being replaced, but multiple organs which could be given to several other people, they have to determine if it's in societies interests to possibly extend one life or more likely extend several. It's unfortunate, but not everyone can be saved when cancer strikes.

The restrictions they put on health care created the death panels and they knew it! Trump was working this out and had medications with big pharma out in the open and had pinned down costs until Biden came in and undid it- death panels is ALL ON THE LEFT baby! (Not to mention the literally THOUSANDS of lives purposefully lost due to democratic leaders putting COVID patients to stay - when they had other means provided by Trump- into old folks homes knowing that it would cause them to die- and it did by the thousands- in more than one state- and no ones doing anything about it- what about those lives? Transplant surgery in metastasized patients is contraindicated. Simple. That means the cancer has spread, and if he gets those transplants they will simply fail again from the spreading cancer, wasting precious, life saving transplants that could save multiple lives, not just his own, and there is very little chance the surgery will even be successful, let alone cure his cancer. I know it sucks, but this is the reality he needs to face.

@@limpingoatfarm At this point, he would have already had an appeal pushed uphill to a Physician working for the insurance company, who made the decision to deny payment. Medical professionals do the same thing as administrative types in this situation: they rely on an odds-risk analysis, and can be just as prone to deny payment for services as a non-medical claims assessor.
The answer in a rare case like this, with a very unique procedure, is not to try to convince the insurer that it's a worthwhile investment that this procedure will save his life- it's still cheaper if he goes to hospice and dies.
For him to get the procedure, the very wealthy foundations and research funds of the institution (e.g. Cleveland Clinic in this case) should fund the procedure, as compassionate use intervention and / or research value (whether he lives or dies). Im not saying I agree with the system, but the wealthy private research hospital system and the surgeon and team who would perform the procedure can find a way to get the patient treated, regardless of the decision of the primary health insurer.

Did you hear about politician suffering from cancer? Insurances now don't want to pay for anything. They just want higher and higher premium. They don't want to pay for more costly medical or dental treatments. I am wondering were they find doctors denying all those treatments. People needs to be strong and healthy to be strong enough to fight for approval for required medical treatment. My son has juvenile diabetes for 22 years and I spent days on the phone and paperwork each time he needed different, new supply to switch to something to control his disease. I am not surprised that people develop complication because they are discouraged by insurance and some medical facilities to fight for their life. I love my son and I do it for him. I don't know if i would do it for myself. It is infuriating to beg for days for life saving medical supply or treatment. I can't afford "affordable Obama care" myself so i have to travel to Europe for necessary tests since they don't require script from doctor and cost 1/10 of US cost. Why hospitals charge so much money in this country for treatment.? It is not reasonable at all.

As I dug into it, I discovered that a retired anesthesiologist is who denied her claim. Kept digging, my mother worked for Mekson, one of the largest suppliers to hospitals, and her insurance they provided was Cigna. The year before Cigna had made just for their shareholders $32 billion dollars. These companies are practicing medicine to turn a profit. Denying prescriptions or change them. The second time I spent 8 days on the phone, “Would you let a surgeon do this operation without mapping your brain?” She got the FMRI, turns out they are what gets denied very often, as they are expensive.

Covid is most probably going to turn out to be an oncovirus (cancer-causing virus, usually years after the infection) as it has characteristics of viruses that do that and is strongly shown to trigger autoimmune diseases like type 1 diabetes and Guillan Barre Syndrome, which oncoviruses do. It's also showing signs similar to HIV and has an immuno-compromising effect that's like a milder (so far) form of AIDS, which might explain why suddenly there is a rash of other viruses also spreading much faster than usual - people's immune systems are damaged by covid. Viruses being allowed to run rampant because we refuse to take air hygiene as seriously as we take surface hygiene has long been the top cause of most cancers and most long-term acquired illnesses within the hyper-densely populated, hyper-mobile, poorly ventilated modern world, and now hopefully FINALLY we are finally going to be forced to get the germs out of our air when we realise that various illnesses, including cancer, are going to destroy the economy and society because covid alone will make them all vastly more common.

I understand what this family is going through concerning insurance. My husband has plaque psoriasis, among other health issues. We had to switch insurance and the insurance we have now denied him 3 times for shots that cleared up his psoriasis. He was receiving the shots with the other insurance. He doctor went as far to take pictures of him and sent it to our insurance. Psoriasis is miserable because it itches very bad. My husband's psoriasis has spread everywhere on his body because our insurance has denied him the shots. We are now going a different avenue that his doctor recommended. I pray this will help him.

It blows my mind how they can basically tell a person, sorry we can't help you, so you will have to die even though there is a chance you could survive but nope we will have to say, sorry can't help you. There is not enough statistical data to say the surgery will be a success. Well listen up, he doesn't have the time to wait for more ppl to have this same surgery and build that data.
