Landlords don't bother to even fix/update apartments, because rents are so high across the city they know if it's under $2500 it will be snapped up no matter the condition.

What's sad is I've seen worse during my NYC apartment hunts. One was an "apartment" in someones house where I would've had to walk through the kitchen justnto get to the apartment. It was in the basement with 7 ft ceilings, the "kitchenette" was a minifridge and a portable electric stove, and tiny frosted windows. Wild.

I’ve lived in the UES and UWS for years. LOVED UWS!!! It’s very easy to get around. Lots of gyms, coffee shops, the train was .5 blocks from me. On the UES I had to walk 5 blocks to the train.

Honestly imo, if you’re not either wowed or instantly see how you can make the space work it’s not worth it. I live in an actual shoebox but I realised I could totally make the space work and I’ve been super happy! I did look at other places/lived in some other questionable places, but the apartment I was meant to find and live in just worked out for me! I got approved at the viewing even though there was people after me, so the right place will 100% reveal itself to you when it comes around!!

I live on the UWS, I disagree that it's hard to get around. It's a little more challenging to get to places like UES, but I have no issues getting down to East Village and LES. Midtown is 15 minutes by train, West Village is about 20-25. It definitely is very quiet and residential, but imo it's better to go out and have fun in downtown areas and then come home to a peaceful neighborhood.

I always welcome and encourage people to share, because i know other people have more insight and its all a learning experience for me! where i was coming from in the video: it was from midtown east/ues to UWS on a saturday was tough! but it could be worse and i recognize that. it was a nice quiet neighborhood which i favor! and im the same way-- i like to be in the hustle and bustle for a bit and then retreat to a slower pace environment. maybe i was too quick to full remove it from my search, but from what i did see, i ultimately didnt love. if more inventory pops up there, i am open to touring . thanks for watching! :)

Also, accessibility has a lot more to do with your habits. I love living near Prospect Park in BK and tend to be around the 14th St area (esp Union Sq) because of work (and school in the past) so I live along lines that allows me to get there. I use to live in the UWS and I feel like it really depends on where you work and hang out. The 1 is fine during the day, not so much late at night for how often it comes. If you're at an express stop now there are choices.

Contact property managers and leasing offices as well. They often can tell you what they have coming up. They will know of people who's lease will be up and who's not renewing. Tell everyone you know that you are looking. Even fit it into conversation with waiters, baristas, store clerks etc in neighborhoods you want to be in. So many properties are rented this way without ever being advertised.

@@georgiasmith7615 oohh this is great info & exactly what i needed to hear!! I’ve heard greenpoint is lovely!! I have not toured a Brooklyn apartment yet!! & given my search so far, I believe I will start venturing over there to see what it offers! Please tell me I’ll like the dumbo area, Williamsburg/greenpoint. I like being around some commercial stores & having that accessible, but not having too much loud restaurants directly where I am. I’m definitely searching for a good balance of both! Open to hearing your Brooklyn neighborhood recs :)

Jah & Jahes love sista. Thanks for doing another video about your apartment search in NYC. I liked the last place a lot, but it was a studio so I understand if you pass on it. In general, I kinda prefer the East Side of Manhattan, and I find that the Harlem area is also very nice especially because of the park and the fact that it's less commercial. Still, there are new developments on the West Side and I hope that you get to check some of them out. I can't help but wonder if Mami Tiff paid a realtor to help her because she showed really nice apartments for about the same price. th-cam.com/video/n8sB86UShp8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=YoTQRM7cmG42x7LK

I like the east side as well & will be searching in upper east side next! & yes the last apartment I showed was a studio -- I liked the modern feel, but ultimately wasn’t sold on it!!

You’re not moving until April, yet you made a person currently living in an apartment have to go out of their way for you to view it just so you could make a TH-cam video, knowing full well that there was a 0% chance that you’d be renting that apartment?

That’s where you’re wrong, Matt. The person was leaving the apartment early - actually a week after I made the video, which as of the time you’re writing this comment, this apartment in question is VACANT. So, instead of jumping to conclusions as it seems like you like to do, understand that I am 1. allowed to view apartments based on what I potentially want to see & live in, and 2. No one was inconvenienced in this process at all. Thanks!
