    I am SO confused why he is the one reimbursing his daughter. Especially when the friend claims he has $100K in the bank. This is so not his responsibility, and if he gets involved in their business and mess, he will be pulled into problems that were never his and regret it.

    • @briannaoppong-antwi9702
      @briannaoppong-antwi9702 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I know that people want to help but this is exactly how you can end up in a situation where you have money that was never paid back, a strained relationship with your friend/losing a friend, and feeling jaded/taken advantage of all because you took on a problem that isn’t yours. It’s just unnecessarily complicating your life

    • @lovethemflowers
      @lovethemflowers 4 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Don’t see how Ryan can REIMBURSE the daughter. He didn’t receive anything from her, his so-called friend did. Let HIM reimburse her. Being in Baby Step 7 must be great, but sadly, you have to beware of mooches who want to take advantage of you.

    The “friend” asking you to reimburse HIS daughter is NOT a “friend”. You can offer after hearing the story, and that’s you’re choice. Someone asking you to do it is using you. It’s not your responsibility to pay his debts...
    People “bragging” about how much money they have, probably don’t have any. They may have HAD it at one point, but have blown it by now.

      the friend was likely bragging about the 100k in the bank - he has nevere had that in savings or he blew it in the meantime. And he does not seem very smart either - or does not remember whom he told what. if I had claimed to have 100k in savings I would be embarrassed to ask for emergency help. Even if I would intend to take advantage of people - I would not try to extract money from the very person I told before that I have savings.

    I like giving, I love giving my server a nice tip, but America has a problem with everyone wanting a tip, Uber needs a tip, dry cleaner wants a tip, grocery delivery guy wants a tip. At what point do we say "is not my job to pay your employee"?

    • @arthrodea
      @arthrodea 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      unfortunately, that is the pay structure in America. So your servers won't get much money if you don't tip them. Changing the whole system is difficult (I understand its different in Europe).

    • @MR3DDev
      @MR3DDev 4 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      @@arthrodea I don't mind the servers, I just don't care for every other service piling on to tipping culture. Doordash and other delivery services should pay full wages to their employees and not treat it like is a restaurant. Those are new services so you can't tell me is about a paying structure

    • @goingtothetop55
      @goingtothetop55 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@MR3DDev You're 100% correct. In fact when doordash and these other services solicit job offers, they always reiterate how you can make up to $18hr or more starting, with no ceiling. This is much more than what restaurant servers make!! Therefore tips are not necessary.

    • @robellyosief8820
      @robellyosief8820 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I never tip. I started at McDonald’s at $7 an hour. I tip gratuity and that’s 8-10 bucks. That’s essentially an 1 hour - 2 of my work for what?I’m not giving you an extra hour of my time.

    • @CocoaBeige
      @CocoaBeige 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Agree 100% then if you don't tip "well" they get angry with you even put in on social media to shame you and will not tackle the real issue which is their employer not offering a living wage. Everyone is trying their best out here but depending on tips is unacceptable. It is so very sad system put in place. Instead of taking it out on the consumer, they should take it up with their respresentatives.

    I dated a girl for 2 years. And we had plans of marrying. However she cheated on me and it had a significant impact on my career because in that month I was supposed to be considered for a better position. During the relation girl used to take money from me for everything like buying clothes electronics , travel, living expenses etc which amounts to approx 10000 dollars even though it was a long distance relationship and we met for a month after every 4-5 months because of our Jobs.
    I used to give her money on the pretext that we trust each other enough. But that cheating part made me feel bitter..

    Thank you both for the video. Off topic a little, but my wife and I both come from immigrant families. Her maternal grandparents were a non-union mechanic and a seamstress. So they survive on fairly minimal social security, as income was used to scrape by and raise our family. We also have cousins that help take care of family elders that we help financially. We give these relatives a better lifestyle than social security and/or disability could afford, as our giving portion of "give like no one else". We don't give thoughtlessly or frivolously, and bad habits are not a problem with the family members we help out (that we know of from visiting and such).
    My questions would be, if you are from an immigrant family, at what point of wealth and family stability would be a reasonable time to give to charities? Do you have to give to charities, or is helping your family live above poverty just as good? Dave never really addresses immigrant families that are full of hard workers, but didn't have the skills, connections or knowledge of US society to be wealthy. He seems to focus mostly on generational wealth and callers/members who don't give at all to their families. So I would be interested his take on people who are the 1st in their families to be wealthy, while close family live around the poverty line. We have enough to help our family out, but I always feel awkward when my friends talk about giving to charities (consistently, disaster funding, etc.) and I just say that I give to family.

    • @cannednolan8194

      I’m not an immigrant one set of my grandparents where. My wife is a refugee. Came with nothing like my grandparents. Most of her family is here. Her and her mom donate to their church so do a lot of their community.
      For me it’s your money do with it what will bring you the most joy. Lot of immigrant need to support their families. That is how they get a head.
      Do want brings you joy giving to family or to someone you see needs it.

      Little Max You don’t pay for elective procedures if your physician has signed off on it, but their could be a waiting period because emergency surgery takes precedence. Procedures such as cataracts, hip replacements etc are 100% covered. Naturally if you don’t have a health card you are not covered otherwise you would have all kinds of people crossing the border for free medical care. Ambulance is covered by government health insurance except for $45, unless the patient has private coverage through work, in which case the fee is covered.

      Canadian here: Yeah -- what the caller is saying makes zero sense. There simply aren't 'hospital bills' to be paid. If there are, it is for unnecessary surgery (like a tummy tuck) -- if it is medically needed surgery, there simply aren't any bills to be paid, it's all covered under provincial medicare. Unless it is for renting a TV for the hospital room... This call makes no sense at all -- and any Canadian caller would know it.

The friend puts in half, and he puts in half. I believe it is usually ok to ask for something, and then it is up to the other person to respond with a yes or a no.

More research needs to be done to find out where that money went. He could very well need the money he asked for depending on the situation. I think more questions need to be asked before assuming this man is using his friend.

    So are we indirectly monitoring giving? If we're talking from a biblical prospective we follow Jesus's example. I don't recall Christ giving or telling his disciples to monitor what they gave based on our own monitoring. We give and go. So are we not supposed to give since we know their not going to do good with the money as an assumption. What they do with the money is between them and the Lord in my opinion especially if we are giving from the heart. Again my opinion. When we tithe are we monitoring the churchs finances? How far does it extend. Give and go from the heart and there's no debate, again in my opinion. Blessings

    • @blackonblack...9244
      @blackonblack...9244 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So, tithing (technically 10% of your stock or earning) is mandated to be given to the Levitical Priesthood according to the Old Testament. To a certain degree it was used in the New Testament to help with operations of the Temple in Jerusalem. Those operations include sacrifices made on the alter in the Temple. This was all mandated by the Lord (technically Jesus himself). You don't have to agree with me. There's a reason why the Old Testament was in place but it wasn't for it to be thrown out.

    • @Kitiwake
