You do get to sleep again, honestly 🙂 Mine are 14 and 11 now, and I remember the first year thinking my life is over, how am I every going to do anything I want ever again. My eldest has never shown any interest in the hobby but my youngest really loves to paint minis, he does get a bit disheartened when things dont work, but picking easy to paint mini's has really helped. We all know a lot of GW stuff if super detailed but I found a few patreons who make nice 'simple' minis to print.
My Twin boys are 16 now, but I remember when they were infants. I don't think we sleep for a whole year. I love when people would tell us, "You have to get them on the same schedule.". Right, I guess you can get lucky to have them both on the same schedule, but you can't reason with babies, when they need something they need it! I get what you mean about the infant stage, I love it way more when they were crawling and trying to talk. You are a rock star! I don't think I got any hobby done the first 4 years. You talking about your twins makes me miss those time...
Loved this :) I'm glad that despite the hustle and bustle, things are going well! Your dedication to the hobby and carving out that time is amazing!! Love that you and the bigger kiddo hobby together, too cute. Also, RELICBLADE HYPE! Can't wait to see the dungeon you make.
I painted so many of my grots during twin nap times, and clipped and glued at lunch. My youngest of three just started pre school and I did my first daytime hobby session in about two years and your video brings back so many memories. Good luck with all your current and future projects!
I am a parent of 2 kids so I totally understand your hobby workflow. My painting style has also evolved to match my "parenting schedule" and I to multiple small steps with lots of drying time in between. I do a zenithal prime with the airbrush, then pause, then a wash or contrast all over, then pause, then a drybrush, then pause, then some small detail, then pause, then another small detail, then pause...etc. Lots of small steps gets an army painted, hehe :) Good luck with your kids!
I love the energy that you bring in your videos. I started watching after your first appearance on Play On, and I absolutely love the content. Your energy is contagious, as I have found myself more motivated to paint my ever-growing pile of shame.
I remember your early vids of you following other tutorials and I was a little jealous. When I started you would have to learn on your own through trial & error. Glad you stuck with it and hope to see your entry at the next AdeptiCon.😀
Love that you appreciate the metal minis! It's what I grew up with. Yes the weight and durability are amazing. I miss the days of taking a fully assembled metal mini out it's package versus all the assembly involved for plastic (I hate assembly).
I was out of painting for a long time and I got back into painting 3 years ago and it was TH-cam content creators that got me back into it. I bought an airbrush and I have been painting ever since! Videos like yours keeps me motivated to keep going!
Twins are awesome. Parent hobbying is a large niche of the hobby which I think is cool. I usually have an hour to paint once my twins go to bed. The airbrush has been a lifesaver to get things prepped quick.
Awesome that you open up about the hard work of juggling young kids and OMG EVERYTHING ELSE. I was a stay-at-home dad for two little kids, so a lot resonated here. Love your energy and mindset!
Oh I hadn't seen any of your Let's Try videos before. I just went and watched the NMN video and it was great! Love the idea of having the Let's Try series comeback.
I came just to say I love your bases! Your minis are spot on and photograph so well with your NMM paint jobs but I think basing just brings a mini to life and all of your minis have so much character
The hobby time struggle is real. One thing I've found is helpful is setting deadlines by planning events where I'm going to use minis that aren't currently painted. For example, I painted up a set of space marines the night before I went to Warhammer World last month because I needed an Imperium Kill Team for a team game that I was playing. Or this week I've got a Shatterpoint demo scheduled so I'll have to finish the models by Sunday. 1 hour a day is solid! Sometimes I settle for one coat of paint on one model per day, or just assemble one model or one unit per day.
The struggle for hobby time is real! But its all worth it, even with just one hour a day ☺I also have so many other models I want to paint especially from some board games I own but I got sucked back in hard to 40k with the new edition. Excited for your stuff coming out in the future!
Thanks for sharing so much stuff about hobbying around kids. My wife is expecting and one of the big things for me is my hobby space is imminently going to become a nursery, so really a double whammy of less time and space to hobby.
As someone with a 3 month old and a 2 year old, you are really inspring! Trying to make time for hobby when you are putting so much into work/parenting is really difficult.
Hello Stephanie. Fantastic video thank you. I saw you on Play on Tabletop and have subscribed. Just a heads up as you may not be aware but your video is mirrored ie back to front and your videos appear as a 4.3 ratio 😉 Just thought I'd draw your attention to these points in case no one else has or you were not aware. Thank you again for a brilliant Q&A video. Much love ❤️ Alex viewing from Bournemouth UK 🇬🇧
12:40 I got out of all GW back in 2013 and fortunately have been able to stay out. It works best if you want to play lots of games, or if you have some friends that are into the same game as you.
Golden Demon is *great*. Just avoid the negative feelings, keep those expectations low, go to talk to other painters, go because you want to show off your work in the case and go to enjoy the hype. If you're invested in winning the highs are VERY high but the lows are so low. If you care about miniature painting, golden demon is a must at least once.
Twins?! Man. My kiddo just turned 4, and boy its tough. Any advice on if its a good idea to introduce him to painting? I saw that target released a new line of hobby paint for kids but i dont know if itll work for plastic minis.
Right there with you on the lack of time. Kids in bed at 830, and my wife and I get a few short hours together. She's not a painter, and most of the TV we watch is in a foreign language. I'm at the point where I can't wait for him to start school so I can take a vacation and paint while my wife is asleep and he's off learning. Bless you, for managing 2 infants and another kid. Sounds like miracle work from where I'm standing.
definitely introduce him to painting if he is showing an interest! My five year old is working on a kroot kill team currently. I've found that when he's painting, I can't paint because making sure he doesnt spill paint pots takes my full attention, but I'm hoping that investing this time now will lead to him becoming more independent later lol
As someone with a busy home life do you have any advice for someone with a full time job and a family/ social life who also wants to create content? Whenever I try to plan out my time it feels super overwhelming
Honestly I'm not quite sure. Both me and my partner work from home so we have certain flexibilities that are not possible for people working outside the home. I imagine it to be way harder
The struggle is real as a working parent to get hobby time in! You should try and get in touch with Sean Sutter. I'm sure you know a lot about him since you are a fan of the game, but that type of collab would be great.
As a first time dad with a 6 month old, I am HERE for all this talk about how to hobby with little ones. You're an inspiration!
Dad of three here, and ours are 10, 7, and 5. So happy to see other parents embracing hobbies that fill us up!

we are in the thick of the no-sleeping stage. it seems whenever one is sleeping, the other isn't. lol. it is slowly improving...
I'm so glad you're finding this hobby to be life giving to you in this extremely exhausting season of being a mom with young kids. Way to go!

Hello, love! It's Jaime from Adepticon (Vanessa's friend). Congrats on getting to the routine stage with the kids! Cool Mom's club rocks!
Hi Jaime!! I hope you're well

Paint racks on walls are vital for the construction of any well functioning family home slash velociraptor paddock.

Past the age of 30, I can't really sleep more than 5 hours anyway.
Keep up the great work!

Thanks for sharing. It was nice to get to know more about you.
thanks for watching!
When it’s things you simply enjoy doing and putting them online, totally get why the term content creator seems so weird.
You got to fight, for you right, to hobby!
I have recently retired , and I struggle to find enough time to'paint' , so I can't imagine how hard it is with kids.
Tiny babies aren't the most interesting people yet, for sure lol. Glad to hear they're doing well.
haha right!

yeah I'm not going in with any expectations, moreso just want to experience it and work hard at something
@@OrionsBeltMinis you'll love it then. I'll be there with the other paint addicts. I'll look for your work in the case
I don't know how you do it at all. I have three boys to take care of (5,3,1) and I haven't painted anything in over a year.
I am almost done with a whole house remodel and am about to move into my first house.....
congrats! That must feel great
Hi, can I ask you, where did you get the shoulder pads and the different heads for your Space Wolves? Please, tell me.
these are from the Primal Hounds collection from Greytide Studios
@@OrionsBeltMinis Thank you
You’re a lovely person

I always got for my boys (3 and 4) a Necron ready to paint with speed paints . But i definitely need to supervise the paint inflow 😁🙈

and if you prime the model, any acrylic paint should work fine

Could not agree with you more. Pro Acryl is the best paint. Period. I almost quit the hobby over other brands needing 3 or 4 coats.
🙂🙂👌👌
you used to teach HIGH SCHOOL?!?!?! oh my gosh.... that was probably distracting for the boys.
That's super gross and inappropriate as hell.
Too bad you probably lost all of your painting time making this video today.

I've spoken briefly with him! He seems great
