@@MrD thats my point. new pilots will wonder why there's a reason its red (or any color indicating that mode can't be activated). Since they are new, they don't necessarily know CLI status command or to check in the right tab.
True, so maybe blue and green would be better. Most of the time the issue is simply that the plane isn’t flying. Either way, an indicator of some sorts would be beneficial.
I finished building my drone and calibrated everything a couple times but my rth does not come home. It flys to another location. Do you have any suggestions that I can try to solve this issue. Using INAV 5. Thank you
Unfortunately this sounds like something that can’t be diagnosed on TH-cam. It would be handy to see a diff and DVR footage of an RTH. If you’re on Facebook, ask in the INAV Fixed Wing Group and we can look there. If not, Discord is another option at discord.gg/3KunqdQ2Cp in the #setup-help channel.
If you can’t see RTH, there is a good chance the GPS has not been set up yet. It needs to be added on the ports page and then configured on the configuration page.
@@MrD My OSD shows sat count, Lat.,Longitude, altitude. distance from home...etc. The failsafe procedure is RTH. In modes I have failsafe on a switch, because I dont have NavRTH in modes. In flight I activate the failsafe switch, the multirotor 'Emergency lands'. Must the gps module have a compass? I use a SAM-M8Q. I've two BN880 on the way. Are there specific settings in Advance Tuning? Thank you.
@@AErefrigeration it still sounds like you don’t have the GPS set up correctly. That option is always on the failsafe page, and I’m sure you can add those OSD elements without a GPS too. You shouldn’t use the Failsafe switch for RTH, it’s just to test the failsafe procedure. Have you checked the ports page and that the GPS is at least enabled on the configuration page?
If this is on a mutli-rotor, I believe that a compass is needed. To be honest, I’m not really a quad guy and have never installed iNav on a quad. I have one with BetaFlight, but hardly fly it as there are always problems.
Hello, thank you for the useful video! I have one question, what is considered zero in the altitude settings? Sea level or the home point altitude? Because if one is flying on mountains where the home altitude is already 200-300m above sea level things get confusing, thanks in advance!
The altitude and hone point are set when you first arm. That is the altitude used and displayed in the stabilisation OSD Altitude. There is also an MSL Altitude that can be used in the OSD.
@@MrD that means that if I first arm on a point which is at say 200m in altitude from sea level, then during my flight press return to home with the climb setting at 50m the plane will fly to 250m before returning ( assuming I have climb before return enabled)

Hi Mr D I have recently installed Inav 2.6 . I have a problem with various Modes not appearing in the list. i think they should appear whether you have GPS set up or not but won't actually work until it is set up. From the Modes list in my Inav RTH , Pos Hold, Way point , Home Reset , GCS nav, Nav cruise and Manual are missing. when i first set it up they were all there, but second time i connected they were not Strange goings on in my Inav Any ideas?
@@MrD Hi Mr D Silly mistake on my part. My flight controller is the Brain Radix, and it hasn't got a compass. so no good for the type of flying that I wanted it for.
You won’t find many FCs with compasses. They’re usually in the GPS module and connect to the flight controller via the I2C bus. But, it doesn’t look like the Radix FC has I2C pads.
Mr D you're an asset for this veteran flier thats new to Inav.
Thank you Douglas. I’m glad my videos help. Hopefully this particular issue is less confusing with the recent updates to the modes page.
This is brilliant for beginners like me! Really appreciate the detailed explanation- thanks mate!
No problem. I noticed a lot of people getting hung up because of this. Hopefully in a future release it will be sorted.
@@MrD aswell as the color changing, the conflicting reason could be written under the mode name. ex: MSP, GPS, ...
Good call. Though it may be better to keep it simpler, especially for new iNav pilots.

No set to first arm an extra arm is on.
@@phillip7047 first arm is for setting the home position. You’re getting at least 6 3D satellite locks before arming?
@@MrD at least that. It flys great, gps modes are fine just when I flip rth it wobbles starts to come home and then goes off in another direction.

Very good points made about the climb first, I had not considered the stall in a turn at all.
To be honest, I didn't think about the stall on turn first. It was Andrew Newton. But it's a very good point.

Hi Darren, is it possible in INAV to define no-fly zone (i would say nofly volume) in order to avoid a line of high tree in RTH mode? best regards
No, not really. The better option would be to set the RTH altitude above the hight of the trees.

what about throtthle?
How i might i set the motor rpm for rth?
Anyway it keeps the one i had in before swithing rth?
You set your cruise throttle. This is used for RTH.
In return to home, is there a setting if the plane will turn right or left first before returning to home..?
It will turn whichever way is the shortest route.
@MrD ahh..ok..after setting up the return to home on inav, how am i going to upload it on the flight controller?

Sure. Just set it on the failsafe page.
Im here to badger you again! 😂

Jokes aside, vector does this, basically shows that failsafe is ‘okay’
Totally. The GUI does need updating to show the mode will work. Maybe in 2.7?
